Finland to close entire border with Russia effective tomorrow

CNN obtained a video showing intense trench warfare between Ukrainian and Russian forces in Avdiivka – @amcoren reports from Ukraine.

The Patriot air defense system has proven its effectiveness by intercepting 15 supersonic Kinzhal missiles and dozens of other ballistic missiles launched by Russia, — spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Ukraine's strikes against Russia are not revenge. We strike only at strategic locations, we have the ability to launch 300 drones," National Guard reserve major Oleksiy Hetman said.

A "cemetery" of bicycles at the border of Murmansk region with Finland - at the Salla border crossing point that has officially closed.

It’s truly incredible to witness.

2013-2014 - tens of thousands of young men from Pakistan, Iraq, Morocco arrive through all of EU to Finland over the Swedish border. Everyone: “We have a dream! Finland is open! We have space and can manage you!

2023 - tens of young men from Pakistan, Iraq, Morocco arrive through all of Russia to Finland over the Russian border. Everyone: “Shut the border! Build that wall!”

The same pundits here are still crying for humanity and telling us to keep the border open. In fact one of the brain dead representative said that the best way to counter Putin and ruZZia is to let more people in and open more ways to get in Europe. Thankfully our goverment changed before this shit started to happen.

It was always incredibly naïve.

Not to tempt a forbidden topic, but these people were never going to integrate and assimilate. But these days you can get shouted at for even saying that apparently you shouldn't have to integrate and assimilate into another country you move into.

Russia replacing Ukrainian population in occupied territories by importing 100,000+ Central Asians.

It is reported that last night, Ukraine attacked Saki air base in occupied Crimea, specifically the 43rd Aviation Regiment. Preliminary reports suggest over 30 Russian servicemen were killed.

New Ukrainian Security Service special operation: last night, there was an explosion on the Baikal-Amur Mainline, namely in Sievieromorsk, which is located in Buryatia.

Operation in Buryatia is insane, that’s like going from LA through hostile territory to New York to blow shit up. Sounds like a high value route to disrupt.

Russian infantry uses ‘cocoons’ to covertly move across the terrain

https://mil.in.ua/en/news/russian-infantry-uses-cocoons-to-covertly-move-across-the-terrain/

Truck drivers of Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary blocked the border with Ukraine. Now stuff important for our survival amidst genocide in winter can't get through. These guys have somehow forgotten their nations are next on russia's kill list if Ukraine fails

"The truth is that I find the situation at the Polish border with Ukraine absolutely unacceptable," Adina Vălean, the European Commissioner for transport, said on Wednesday.
"While I support the right of people to protest, the entire EU, not to mention Ukraine, a country currently at war, cannot be taken hostage by blocking our external borders. It's as simple as that."
Since 6 November, Polish truckers and farmers have blocked transit through different border crossings along the Polish-Ukrainian border. On Monday, the around-the-clock restrictions were extended to a fourth crossing, in Medyka, further aggravating the crisis.

Commissioner Vălean, however, appeared unconvinced by the overture and publicly berated the Polish government for not doing its part to resolve the dispute.
"There is no good faith in finding a solution. This is my evaluation today," Vălean said. "There is a nearly complete lack of involvement of Polish authorities."
"I'm saying that because the Polish authorities are the ones that are supposed to enforce the law at that border," she added.
The Commissioner said there was a list of "technical measures" that could alleviate the tensions and restore transit but these "have to be accepted by the Polish part."

Lots of bad news recently that I think is indicative of where the war will go this winter. I don't think the frontline will collapse but Russia will likely make noticeable gains in the east. The trucker protest is just one of many circumstances that are not in Ukraine's favor.

Maybe not as much as one would think.
The Russian government has been recruiting mostly from non-ethnic Russians and prisoners. Leaving out most of the ethnic Russians, especially around Moscow and St. Petersburg, to avoid civil unrest near these centers of power.
But the population of men of non-Russian ethnicity and from prisons is drying out.

Pretty much what people already know but nice to read the detail. In summary it was overestimating to begin with and then underestimating once they dug in.
● Ukrainian, U.S. and British military officers held eight major tabletop war games to build a campaign plan. But Washington miscalculated the extent to which Ukraine’s forces could be transformed into a Western-style fighting force in a short period — especially without giving Kyiv air power integral to modern militaries.
● U.S. and Ukrainian officials sharply disagreed at times over strategy, tactics and timing. The Pentagon wanted the assault to begin in mid-April to prevent Russia from continuing to strengthen its lines. The Ukrainians hesitated, insisting they weren’t ready without additional weapons and training.
● U.S. military officials were confident that a mechanized frontal attack on Russian lines was feasible with the troops and weapons that Ukraine had. The simulations concluded that Kyiv’s forces, in the best case, could reach the Sea of Azov and cut off Russian troops in the south in 60 to 90 days.
● The United States advocated a focused assault along that southern axis, but Ukraine’s leadership believed its forces had to attack at three distinct points along the 600-mile front, southward toward both Melitopol and Berdyansk on the Sea of Azov and east toward the embattled city of Bakhmut.
● The U.S. intelligence community had a more downbeat view than the U.S. military, assessing that the offensive had only a 50-50 chance of success given the stout, multilayered defenses Russia had built up over the winter and spring.
● Many in Ukraine and the West underestimated Russia’s ability to rebound from battlefield disasters and exploit its perennial strengths: manpower, mines and a willingness to sacrifice lives on a scale that few other countries can countenance.
● As the expected launch of the offensive approached, Ukrainian military officials feared they would suffer catastrophic losses — while American officials believed the toll would ultimately be higher without a decisive assault.

While some trucks are again able to cross from Poland into Ukraine, many drivers remain stuck in queues near the border. To help them cope with lack of access to food on the highway and freezing temperatures, our teams provided bowls of hearty barley soup with meat and veggies.

Yeah, the US pissing its britches over air support and long range missiles fucked the counter offensive before it even began. Surprise, surprise.

In a research piece posted on November 8, the DGAP, an independent German foreign policy research institute, put the window within which NATO, including Germany, must get their armed forces on to a footing.

This would include putting in place capabilities in-line with a scenario of a Russian attack, at between five and 10 years from the point in time at which intensive fighting has ended in Ukraine.

In other words this would be the time-scale Russia would require to reconstitute its armed forces sufficiently for an attack westwards, the DGAP reports.

The direction of this attack could include the Baltic States, the DGAP adds.

"The window for a possible Russian attack will open as soon as Russia believes that an attack, for instance on the Baltic states, could meet with success."

This preparedness would also be the only way in which NATO allies could curb the risk of another war breaking out in Europe, the DGAP says.

Europe better take this seriously and not miss the golden opportunity to defeat Russia in Ukraine as soon as fucking possible.

Clearly part of the blame lies with Ukraine's military leadership. They decided to spread out their forces and attack along 3 different fronts. If they had just focused on the Melitopol direction they would have had more success, and could have at least reached tokmak.

This is one instance where they should have listened to the U.S.' advice.

Unfortunately they might not get another chance for a major counteroffensive like this one. Republicans are going to vote no on the next aid package because of disagreements on U.S.' southern border

no sane commander would send it's majority of forces in minefield under helicopter and fighter jet fire without air support even concentrating such large amount of armor and infantry isn't possible without getting noticed by enemy, if you remember start of counteroffensive was failure then ua got in smaller groups and started moving forward very slowly, it would have been disaster if they would done what you said many more losses and situation would be quite different now, so it's good thing they don't listen U.S advice.

Nutso numbers again..

On December 5, 1994, the leaders of Ukraine, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Russian Federation signed the so-called Budapest Memorandum in Budapest.

On this day in 1998, Ukraine and the United States signed an agreement to eliminate Ukraine's 44 heavy bombers and 1,068 X-55 cruise missiles.Ukraine has gone through many disarment programs being promised peace and security instead.

Worth thinking about though as years later, some wonder whether the country might have pursued a different foreign policy course had it retained nuclear arms. This was not, however, a real option. Soviet nuclear warheads had relatively short shelf lives, and Ukraine lacked the infrastructure to refurbish the warheads, build new ones or produce needed elements such as tritium gas. At enormous cost, Ukraine might have maintained a small number of weapons for a time, but their reliability and safety would have come under increasing doubt

Going in smaller groups didn't exactly negate the minefields and allow them to make much progress.

Congregating all their forces on the same axis could have at least allowed them to widen the bridgehead in robotyne and potentially penetrate more of the defense lines around it. Then they would have at least created a better foothold for future attacks.

It did negate massive casualties and armor loss that's why they changed tactics.

maybe but at massive cost which not worth it, what they really needed apart fighter jets and long range missiles is way more breaching, anti-mine armor.

There are very limited supplies of such vehicles as breaching massive minefields miles deep and under enemy fire would never be done by a NATO force. There would first be an air campaign for months until the enemy forces were destroyed to a point where you can send in engineers on foot into those minefields to slowly clear them out.

Another point the Ukrainians are blamed for is not training their combat veterans on NATO gear but new recruits. So they were supposed to take all their experienced forces off the frontlines and hope the Russians keep quiet for a year and not attack the rookies now holding the line too hard while the good soldiers train in the West. Another dumb argument from strategists who never had to plan for a battle where defeat in the field meant losing the war. If the US had lost the entire force sent to D-Day, Vietnam or Desert Storm, Washington would not have been conquered a week later. It would have been a disaster but not an existential one.

The good thing is that now all those inexperienced soldiers on Western gear are combat veterans. They can teach others on what works and what does not and do it in realistic ways and not on a German training ground with 25 meter deep minefields and drones not allowed because of regulations.

fucking disgusting... no words for what the republicans are doing. I fear for 2024. People in Ukraine should be worried.

People saying that Russia would go even further in Europe are dumb imho. I'd make it clear that even if the US exits Nato with a Trump win, we wont hesitate to send a nuke Russia's way if only one soldier steps over the border.

Russian forces may be suffering losses along the entire front in Ukraine at a rate close to the rate at which Russia is currently generating new forces.

“Looking closely at Putin’s recent speech, it’s clear he’s more confident & willing to escalate the flames of war beyond Ukrainian borders. Dismissing his statements as mere propaganda…as was done in 2021, would be a mistake.”

This morning, an additional 19 Kh-101/555 missiles were launched towards Ukraine of which 14 were shot down. Local military administrations will report on the consequences of the missile strike.

After a pause, Russia resumed missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. About 10 missile-carrying bombers launched Kh-101/555 missiles from Engels, Saratov Region. In Kyiv, with strong air defenses, all missiles were intercepted.
Kharkiv was hit with six S300 missiles.
Pavlohrad was struck by a missile attack, one person killed.
Preliminary 14 out of 19 missiles intercepted.

‼️ Air raid in Ukraine: Russia has launched missiles at the Kharkiv, Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
According to the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, a result of the attack on the Pavlograd district, a person was killed, 4 others injured.

Russian military bloggers report that the North Korean ammunition is very unevenly produced. Even coming from the same production lot, it is obvious that deviations in the charge compositions and powder can be seen. It is very poor quality. Targeting and hitting becomes a game of luck. This comes after reports of production deviations of the shells in terms of manufacturing tolerances which were too much outside acceptable parameters and causing barrels of Russian artillery to explode.
