Four U.S. swimmers, including Ryan Lochte, were robbed at gunpoint Saturday, the U.S. Olympic Committee said after initially denying that Lochte was robbed. The four swimmers, who also included Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen, were robbed by individuals posing as police officers as they headed to the Olympic Village, USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky said. "All four athletes are safe and cooperating with authorities," Sandusky said

Glad everybody is safe. Have there been a lot of incidents like this? I know initially there were some problems with the early arrivers and such, but it seems like things of been generally quiet, more than I expected at least.

I also wonder if the IOC might be sitting on any incidences until after the end, but then again I have a tendency to wear tinfoil hats

Feels weird that I came in here expecting it to be a complaint about how they were cheated out of medals, not actually robbed.

It is true.

Saw this earlier in the news and it was a really confusing story. Ryan's MOM was the one who said he was robbed, while the coach and Lochte himself denied the robbery (according to the story I was reading). In any event. it's good that no one was harmed.

Shows you how corrupt to the bone the IOC and USOC are that they would reflex deny their own fucking athletes before begrudgingly retracting because they were presented with cold hard proof.

As long as Rio can get through the Olympic without anyone getting killed is a success. Then they can go back to impeach the president.

Don't get me wrong... denying it was fucking stupid.

However, that isn't corruption.

It is getting pretty tiring for every negative thing that happens to be called corruption.

At first I thought of robbed of winning a medal, not literally robbed

Leaving him his phone and credentials is almost nice

A down right considerate robbery really. If I was getting robbed it be like "dude let me keep the ID and the phone, those are a pain in the ass to replace, you feel me bro?"

A Judo medal winner and his sparring partner were robbed as well.

At first I thought this thread was about an American complaining that Americans weren't the best. Didn't realize they were actually robbed for real.

It's only a matter of time before an athlete actually gets shot at these games. What an embarrassment.

A matter of time? It already happened in Munich in the 70's. It's kind of a big deal. Unless you're specifically referring to the Rio games, in that case I agree, the world is crazy right now and Rio isn't exactly the safest place on earth.

Man I thought this was going to be about them being robbed as in like they should have won gold/silver but something happened either last second or political and they were denied.

Left his credentials, huh. Not likely.

Folks, I'm afraid what we have here is... AN IMPOSTER.

Clearly the mugging was a front for a kidnap and swap, to try and hurt US Olympic chances in the pool.
