Ryse: Son of Rome |OT| Are You Not Entertained?!

StudioTan

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
This game is fucking gorgeous. The combat isn't deep but I'm enjoying myself nonetheless. It's pretty much exactly what I was expecting and I'm happy with my purchase.

I really hope it does well enough for a sequel.

I hope so too, hope they call over some of the darksiders guys to help deep out the combo system.

Not sure how i feel about keeping the supernatural low.

Ending is kinda strange wondering how long it will take for an spoiler free thread to emerge.

the text/bar in the top right of the screen goes way off the screen. I don't think it's an overscan issue because too much of it is cut off. Anyone else have this problem? I'll post a picture in a few

You can check your TV overscan with Xbox's video calibration tool in Settings somewhere

Unfortunately you cant actually adjust the Xbox's overscan settings from what I've seen

Sweet crap does this game look good. I don't have it, but I'm watching Sesslers review of it as he complains about story and gameplay, I'm zoning him out looking at that fucking beauty. Crytek guys are INSANE! I want an Xbox One just for this.

And it's obvious the gameplay is shit. Crytek is more of a tech company and less of a game one... they don't have the best designers, but they have some of the best technical artists. That's all I want it for.

Adam Sesslers review is like someone reviewing porn.

The graphics are indeed insane... I can see how it can get repetitive if its shown all its tricks by the first few levels of the game. Having a bit of fun with it so far however.

Yeah, I don't have an X1 and have the PS4 but damn does Ryse look like such a stunning beauty. Crytek = Guerrilla Games, they know how to make stunning games that push hardware but tend to lack in their storytelling dept.

Mother of god. Marius' facial expressions are probably my favorite of any game.

In-game btw.

Say what you want about the gameplay, but the production values are all-around stellar.

Speaking of which. Does anyone knows if they are releasing the Soundtrack on iTunes or something? The music is godtier. Thank god is no Zimmer-like bullcrap like everyone else seems to be composing this days.

This game has been downloading since last night. It was ready at 16% but only menus worked. Finally at 45% I could play the first level.

Long install and download aside. The game looks stunning. Can't wait for it to finish so I can keep playing.

this game has a really retro arcade feel despite the graphics. I mean you're usually literally fighting 3 copies of the same guy at a time.

thanks, I'll take a look not that it matters since I can't adjust it. I could turn 1:1 on my tv but I'd rather not (plasma)

That would be bad change imo, DR3 is one of the more "robust" games at launch. Open world, lots of stuff to do, fun...

This game is ridiculously beautiful.

I applaud Crytek for managing to coax this much out of the X1. Especially so, considering it is a launch title.

I like the game, but isn't this kinda what we should be expecting from new consoles?

Keep DR3, get rid of AC4!

Son of a bitch MS. Between this and KI their launch lineup is indeed superior to the PS4. And I hate admitting that with how MS acted earlier this year and my reluctance to support them. Maybe I'll buy their system used in a year or so lol

Looks damn fine though!

How do you get the day one exclusive map if you dont buy the day one version of the game ?

Is it included in the season pass ?

Has anyone that downloaded the game managed to get their Day One content? It's meant to be available for up to two weeks. How do you get it?

They really need to add screenshots to the Game DVR.. if this was a PC game it would haunt the Screenshot Thread for years.

Jumping back into this game. Played around in Gladiator a bit and it was sort of fun. Didn't know what I was doing and wasted 2 consumables though.

Wow, sorry to hear that, check your download speed; mine downloaded pretty fast, not even 35mns and I was playing before it was done.

SenjutsuSage, have faith that soon you will get your console and be able to play the game. We all know how much you like it, and you wont be dissapointed.

I am not saying is Amazing! but I wouldnt call it a disaster at all... I think the trick with RYSE is to manage the Combat system. I keep finding different ways to string combos and use perks and other features. Like I said in a previous post, I played about 3 chapters and I had to restart in Soldier mode because Centurion was kicking my *** badly when surrounded by more than 4 enemies.

I must say though, I am not a hardcore player by any means. Games like Dark Souls proved to be more frustrating than entertaining to me; but I know some people love that kind of challenges and are great at them.

I am glad more and more people are enjoying the game. An improved sequel would be great!

Just watched a stream of this. The game looks repetitive but it is definitely a good showcase for the system, and the story was reasonably entertaining. Absolutely missfire considering the awesome material they could have used and super cliche, but not terrible as a typical game story. Killer Instinct came on afterwards, and honestly the difference in visual quality was extremely jarring. That game wouldnt impress me that much on current gen...

I hope a next gen Dark Souls and Witcher 3 come close to looking this good.

I don't think you need to worry on that account...probably the best looking thing I have seen....

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

People like bad games all the time. People also dislike good games all the time. It happens.

No.

Games are defined as good or bad based on whether or not the player enjoys the game.

If you enjoy the game, then it's achieving it's main aim and it is good. If you are not enjoying playing the game then it is a bad game.

Obviously good or bad is dependent on people's opinions however saying people who like Ryse like "bad games" is ridiculous.

This is beyond not true. It is ok to like bad games. Someone likes bad rats I am sure. It still sucks.

ElTorro

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
The gameplay is not as bad as the reviews suggested. It's actually pretty solid. The bigger problem is the lack of variety in enemies and the fact that the game is very short. The storytelling is a mixed bag. Still definitely worth a play through.

No, in your opinion it sucks. You can't label a game as bad because you dislike then expect everyone to agree with you in saying it is bad.

For example: I don't like The Last of Us. I think it's a bad game. Does that mean that people who enjoy it like a "bad game"? No. They like a game I think is bad. A lot of people think that is a fantastic game, and I'm sure it is a lot of people's favourite game of all time.

So by your logic every game is a good game.

We know that's not true.

I meant that in their opinion it is a good game.

On current gen it would look exactly the same. Such GIFs are terrible in judging graphics.

Download OBS and use PNGs on minus.com!

Well yeah, small gifs are wallys going to hide imperfections. Credit goes to eat children though for making the gif. Anyway, I have played Witcher 2 which already looked stunning, so I can get an idea of how the assets compare here, I already know the fidelity will fantastic.

Back to Ryse, I wonder if the cutscenes are rendered at a higher spec, like what it would look like on high end PC. They looked more impressive to me, same as in ND games. Some of the lighting in them was damn good.

In order for "good" and "bad" to retain their meaning as words, they cannot simply refer to a subjective evaluation of something. A "good" game must have objective properties that distinguish it from a "bad" game. It's wise to separate good/bad from like/dislike when trying to discuss the merits of a game.
