As with SR3, so much fun doing random stuff, I think I have only done 3 story missions and I am 10 hours in.

Who the hell thought the red/yellow ball-launching-activity-thing was a good idea? God damn that last part is terrible.
Yeah that's the worst activity in the game, but frankly I don't really care for many of them. Too bad the game is so padded out with them, I'm getting serious activity fatigue. I'd skip them except for the fact that you get so much stuff from completing them for the side quests.

Part of the game I'm loving (sprinting, jumping, flying, using my powers), part of the game I'm enjoying more or less (the story quests), half the game I'm borderline hating (the majority of the activities). I'm really conflicted over the whole game. It's no Saints Row 2 that's for sure. I don't think there ever will be again. The activities in that game were so much more fun and varied.

Someone needs to remind me about what the activities in SR2 were given all I remember were the spraying shit with shit (essentially mayhem but tedious) and the bodyguard missions where you threw people into things. I think the variety was there in 4 and there weren't enough of any 1 activity for them to get boring. Then again I really enjoyed the ball throwing activity on PC given I was able to juggle about 3 balls at a time.

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?
Can you in SRIV?

With Mod support for PC, eventually. I think Idolninja is working on it. (Guy who did Gentlemen of the Row for SR2)

There was Septic Avenger (Sewage), Fuzz (Basically Cop mini killathons), Insurance Fraud, Mayhem, Escort, Snatch, Drug Trafficking, Crowd Control (bodyguard), Fight Club, Heli Assault, and Trail Blazing. Two sets of each, I believe, each with 6 levels, with rewards on the 3rd and 6th finish.

Also had Hitman, and Chop Shop, and a fair amount of car races.

It's fine on pc, with the fov fix you can see all the colored pads at once and the mouse aim makes for easy gold.

Do you even need the Fov fix on that? got gold first time on the last one without it. It's pretty cool that by around the end of the game you no longer need to use weapons unless shit gets really crazy (and even then it's not that needed). Still annoyed they didn't bother adding anymore animations melee weapons when it's screams having at least he amount fist have (which isn't all that much to begin with).

Here is what I ended up with for my Boss.

On that note, has someone figured out how to do HUDless screenshots so I can get good quality ones with no HUD?

Meeting
Old Shaundi just reminded me how much I hate new Shaundi.

Also, am I the only one who thinks male voice 2 is the best one?

Just like in 3, all the subtlety is gone in the writing. The Asha mission alone came off like it was written by Family Guy's writing staff.

Kinzie in 4 makes new Shaundi seem like fun Shaundi.

Having just bought PS3 and a few games, having a huge backlog on steam and being a bit let down by SR3 I really shouldn't be interested in the game right now...

...but I just have to ask if some people have had the performance problems as they did with SR3. No matter what I did I never got it running past 30fps (ATI 5850 here, but I think some people with high-end Nvidias had problems with the game too) when driving and it looked and run like an arse pretty much all the time. I did force my way through the main story, but with the driving mechanics and poor perfomance I just didn't want to continue with the DLC, but I might be willing to give a chance to this sequel.

I've seen you compare the game to Family Guy before and I'm just not seeing it. I don't see the game constantly references without any jokes to back them up, I don't see it crudely making fun of minorities. What is it that makes it so much like family guy for you because to me the humour's nothing alike?

Uh I didn't even know there was a fov fix, good to know. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

It's going to blow your mind, it's like you were blind and now you can see after you change it.
Cast of those horse blinders and enjoy being able to have spatial awareness:D

Runs like crap for me:(
hd6870 and phenom II 720BE at 3.4 ghz (which is a 955BE with one core disabled but the L3 cache intact)

In saints row 3 it was a gpu issue mostly (having to turn shadows to medium and AO off or the framerate would be awful) but this time it seems to be heavily cpu limited for me, regularly drops to 25-30 fps regardless of what graphics settings I use, so I run it maxed out with 2x msaa since my framerate stays exactly the same.

Seems the game isn't multithreaded as battlefield 3 64 player multiplayer never drops under 35 fps for me and averages about 50-60 fps. (which considering how old my 130 euro early 2009 cpu is is pretty good)

The game definitely does not anywhere remotely near good enough to warrant such low framerates, jc2 looks better and runs at 60+ fps for me.

I really wish the side missions were more than " go play this activity"

And yes, meeting
old shaundi
did make me realise just how horrible the
new one
is too.

You hate fun

Nah, just hate useless characters. And yes, I'm aware this is saints row but still. There is useless and then there is a bad ass like Pierce :D

You should be doing the activities anyway for the challenge not because they are side quests. The real side quests are the loyalty missions and they do not disappoint.

The constant references to other video games. To the point that it's what carries the incredibly weak main storyline. When you're relying on the references to other titles to be the most interesting part of your story, that to me is what's 'Family Guy' humor/writing.

I thought SR3 was funnier frankly. Most of the time this game is more like YES I GOT THAT REFERENCE or HEH or Wow they did a thing, heh.

nothing is really over the top funny. Then again, I do prefer slapstick to satire.

Eh the whole point is to fulfil your super hero fantasy, and it expanded that to most fictions fantasy. That's the point. It's not about the adding random humour from other games and fiction for the sake of it, it's about taking what they consider the best parts and the making fun of that part and the whole origin as a whole. It's not added to the game it is the game and the whole purpose of it, with some character development thrown in.

That's why gameplay styles and concepts are ripped straight rather than a reference here and there. It also provides a reasonably logical reason for since non of this actually occurs in the real world. Would have been a bit too ridiculous to do it in a Sr3 setting.

That's not the case though, whilst the mission in question is clearly a deconstruction of stealth games the implementation and the writing holds it together. Family guy is terrible because the references are purely random and aren't built up by jokes where as SR4's "incredibly weak main storyline" is smartly written so that they can contextualise the references they use and build on them. Family guy is random nonsense were as SR4 is a successful parody.

As others have said it's silly to argue taste in humour, but the writing in the game is nothing like that seen in Family guy.

You weren't kidding, holy shit! I didn't know it was possible, but now gliding around is even more fun.

Fight Club
The Fuzz
Airplane races
Demolition derby

Just off the top if my head.

Are there any pantyhose and normal looking heels in any of the clothing stores? Only the default Asian female in the ugly suit has tights from what I've noticed. This bugged me in The Third, too

I've actually been really impressed at how they've managed to continue the craziness of SR3's better missions while playing this whole thing straight. It's not as wacky, juvenile, and heavy handed as 3, if that's what you prefer then that's fine and I can understand why you'd be disappointed. As far as I'm aware this was a conscious decision by Volition in order to appeal to SR2 fans who thought 3 went too stupid.

Personally, the dialog and mission creativity is what I loved about the humor in 3, and that thankfully continues here.

Why wasn't the subtitle for this OT " One Nation, Under Boss"

I might agree if every single mission was a flashback that started with "remember that time when Random X did Random Y with Random Z?" followed by an interminable 10 minute QTE where you play a naked man covered in mayonnaise flogging a chicken named Susan B. Anthony while admonishing her for not knowing her place and staying in the kitchen.

Anyways, yeah, the plot is crap, but it's not like I remember the plot in 3 either.

wish they would revamp melee. the running attacks are cool... but take too long and can only work on 1 guy.

It's weird that the cutscenes are mostly all cqc stuff, but none of that is in the game really... wouldn't mind some batman style melee lol.

Man what a fun game, just finished it. I feel its the best of the SR titles.

They lifted lines from
Transformers: The Animated Movie
during the finale, that a put a huge grin on my face.

Make sure to do all loyalty mission to get the good ending.

As great as this game is I feel that the over the top gameplay gets in the way of everything else. The huge list of side activities look and sound fun the first couple of tries, but when you play further you soon realize it is just filler without proper npc social interaction and eventually it just becomes a chore to get that extra little power or cache.

That is where my biggest issue with this game lies for me. The overall feel of doing something that has somewhat of an impact in the world, or where you are hugely rewarded for doing something menacing, is hardly ever there. In fact this becomes a game inside a game inside a game, without any of them being succesful in its doings other than the "insurance fraud" activity.

I guess I do somewhat enjoy the game, but I find myself skipping most of the side activities and get on with the story missions because that is where most of the attention has been put in.

I can somehow agree with the 7.5 or 8's this game has been given. It is a fun game and all, but it borrows heavily from games like Prototype and GTA without actually bringing something on the table that is extremely unique.

I swear this game hates me. I'm towards the end of the game and it's freezing all the time (360). Having fun and love the game though.

Almost 50% completion based on my save and I just got
Shaundi and Fun Shaundi
as
companions
now. I've give this game tons of credit for figuring out a way to put
both version of the
character in the game and making it hilarious.

I love SR4, but the side quest missions are always boring to play after a while. Of course, I still ended up doing them all anyway to get all those achievements, so maybe I'm not completely the victim in this relationship. :p

Does the time being always night ruins the game for anyone else? Because of that i just gone back to Saints Row 3 as i haven't finished it before and i don't if i will ever play this again.
