Saints Row IV |OT| One Nation, One Crew

I figure this might be the best place to ask.

What is the best place to start? Thanks to Humble Bundle I have Saint's Row 2 and 3 right there in my Steam library, but I don't know if I should bother with SR2 or just jump straight to SR3. Or should I buckle up and get SR1?

Disclaimer: Insanity is what I want. Pure, unadulterated insanity. I'd go straight for SR3 but I'm just asking in case I'd miss something important that way.

Read the wiki for the plot of SR1, and start with SR2.

Seeing how the patch has messed the game up, really tempted to play through SR2 that I got from the humble bundle. Seems to have pretty much unanimous praise around here.

sr1 is more of a refined gta clone. it's funny comes from how seriously it takes its gangster lore.

sr2 is where the stupid starts slowly and you're not sure if they are in on the joke or not.

3 starts with you jumping out of a plane shooting another planes pilot to hijack that and killing everyone while falling out the back door to a sky diving gun fight to land on a rooftop stripper party while power by Kanye west plays

4 picks up from that but now during the skydiving gun fight part you're in a tank

Though I'm very much enjoying the main and side missions, I say with absolute certainly that most of the activities are downright abysmal. Locking off upgrades to silver and gold medals are unfortunate.

That's still Saints Row: The Third.

I can't put my finger on it but so far it really does feel like the Boss has changed and has become more reasonable in some situations. Like in a few rescure mssions. I guess that's what happens when you become president heh but I like it.

Anyone knows what happens
when you pick the suicide option Zynack gives, is it just a game over or does the game actually continue.

Completed it.

Pretty good game that did a lot of stuff good ( good humour) but nothing amazing.
The missions were fun ( though I feel I didn't do that many...). The powers ranged from very nice
( ice)
to average (
traversal stuff, WHY CANT WE FLY, sprinting/ jumping wasn't really improved from Prototype
)

The activities are pretty crap ( quantity > quality here IMO) and as such can't be bothered to complete them all. Same old map so 0 point in exploring ( will go back to mess around with the guns, since they are fun to use)

Zinyak was a great villain though.
8/10, I wasn't left disappointed like I was with SR3, so that is good ( worth the purchase) and while it didn't have a lot of music, the few it did was pretty awesome.

The game on PC is still borked eh? Haven't seen another update since the earlier one on Twitter. Guess I'll hold of playing yet another night. Kind of annoyed.

You quickly learn that they are.

Playing SRIV reminded just how fuckin CRAZY Saints Row 2 really was. Carlos, the monster truck and the trunk, the face tattoo, the sword battle where you could just pull out a gun, Saints Row 2 was a pretty damned intense game.

I'm playing on the 360, and I can't complete "the key" mission. My xbox keeps hard locking. I'm not have much luck with this game. Sometime I crash when I go into the menus, the lighting gets messed up and I have to quit to the dash. Ugh

SR2 was great because it was goofy as hell, but had a mean streak and wasn't afraid to go dark. It had more black humor, the boss was a mega asshole who didn't take nothin from no one, and when characters got beat up and killed, they got beat up and killed.

But when you take a step back: Monster trucks, samurais, ninjas on bikes, poop spraying, filming episodes of COPS, etc. etc. It was crazy fun, but with a rotten underbelly.

Its actually touched on couple times in the game. Pierce mentions how much of a psychopath the boss was once and there is general feeling that success has mellowed him/her.

So I decided to pop in Saints Third on the 3660 to finish up some of the dlc i have yet to tackle. Holy hell the game looks soo much better than Saints IV on PS3.

It's jarring

In Saints Row 3, upload your character to the character gallery. Then go to the SR website, and put your character in your character "queue". Now, download your character in Saints Row IV.

BOOM!

How do I transfer my sr3 character to sr4?

Create an account or log in to http://www.saintsrow.com/, log in to the community in SR3 and find any store and upload your character with the character gallery option, go back to saintsrow.com and queue up your own character (if it isn't already), log in to community on SR4 and then go to any store and download your uploaded character from the character gallery. You may have to make some tweaks if you are using clothes and other options that are no longer in SR4 from SR3.

Does anyone know what these six silver presents/boxes mean? They only seem to appear during UFO and Tank Mayhem. I know they weren't there the first time I played these activities.

OH shhiiit no they didn't, just started
Johnny's
Rescue Mission. didn't see it coming. ;_; I love this game.

The ending of that mission was a total boner deflation.

I honestly thought Johnny would be revealed to be an alien or something, the way things were escalating. Like a defecting Zin or The Last of His Race or something.

Huh, I haven't seen those either. I also haven't done the followups of these activities yet. Will try them out once Volition rolls the fix to the fix of the patch.

Really hope they fix the PC version today. I also hope I won't have to start a new save to fix everything. Was really looking forward to finishing this on my days off but now I only have one left :(

So my city has become dead all of a sudden. No cars, no civilians walking around, nothing. Just me. I am not sure what the hell is going on, but I can't do any more of the side quests (Fraud, Mayhem, etc) because there's no cars/people around to interact with.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

Yup, still king.
And the pimp cane with the special walking animation, and the pimp slap.
And the gender slider that could go anywhere from full female to full male to whatever in between.
I'll never forget my Hippie Jesus with a female ass and the cockney voice. *salute*

However the gameplay and graphics were much more solid in SR3 and 4.

Sales press release:

Saints Row IV is a Smashing Commercial Success: More Than One Million Units Sold Through in the First Week
Incredible 3:1 Ratio in PC sales over Saints Row: The Third

LARKSPUR, CA, August 28, 2013– Already hailed as a critical success, Deep Silver & Volition’s Saints Row IV has had a breakthrough commercial achievement as more than one million units sold through in its first week of retail availability. In the first days of availability, the PC version of Saints Row IV more than tripled its first week’s sale numbers over the prior release from THQ, Saints Row: The Third.

Saints Row IV is also leading the charts in almost all major European countries in the first week of its sale. The game has already garnered the top spot in the UK, Germany and Benelux (on all platforms).
“We are incredibly happy of the reception for Saints Row IV as a critical and now a commercial success,” said Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of parent company Koch Media. “The development team at Volition is second-to-none as a driving creative force in the entertainment industry and we are very proud to have them as part of the Deep Silver family.”

"A global commercial success such as this within the first week since launch of Saints Row IV proves the strength of this brand.", comments Menno van der Bil, International Commercial Director, Deep Silver. "The over the top nature of Saints Row IV underlines the Deep Silver brand strategy perfectly and we are also ecstatic about the critical praise the game has received."

In addition to outstanding consumer reception to the game’s launch, media also recognized the fantastic game experience that Saints Row IV has to offer. Destructoid.com awarded the title a 9.5 out of 10 score, calling it “one of the best open world sandbox games.” The Escapist gave the title a perfect 5 out of 5 score and said Saints Row IV was, “hilarious, action-packed and fun to play,” while USA Today called Saints Row IV gameplay “an amazing experience.”

In Saints Row IV, Volition continues the story of the Third Street Saints by elevating their status to the highest level – the leaders of the free world. The head honcho of the Saints has been elected to the Presidency of the United States but the Saints are just getting started. Now the larger-than-life insanity of the Saints series gets a new twist with a catastrophic alien invasion, and the aliens have transported the Saints to a bizarro-Steelport simulation. Wield gargantuan superpowers and fight to free humanity from alien granddaddy Zinyak’s mental grasp. Escape the simulation that’s trapped the Saints crew, or die trying.

Saints Row IV’s online community at SaintsRow.com saw its registrations increase by a million in the first week alone, amounting to more than 1.3 million user accounts for the game in total, with custom content flooding in at 806,908 pieces of brand new user-generated content since the release of both the wildly popular character customization app Inauguration Station and Saints Row IV itself.

Yeah, well... I'm not loving this game as much as SR 2,3 or at all actually... :(

- It's really funny and clever at times but I also find it to be very tedious... I had the same feeling in the previous games but it's only getting to me now. The shooting has kind of been pushed to the background by the super powers, which is a good thing because it's never been SR's strong point, but I don't think the powers work all that well either. You need those traversal powers to upgrade all powers by collecting those data clusters. Tedium sets in really fast there because the traversal powers are not fun to use. They are too imprecise and kinda clumsy. I wish I could use a different form of currency to upgrade my powers.

- The devs seem to have lost focus in the gameplay department. All vehicles are practically useless because the traversal powers get you anywhere way faster. Like I already said, shooting has become superfluous and when you want to use the guns for shits and giggles enemies are still too bullet sponge-y.

- The city has never been really interesting and adding some towers to climb and aliens doesn't really make it more interesting.

- It kinda looks outdated too. Even on PC.

I'm pretty sure the game gets better and more fun as I will upgrade my powers. But the tedium and lack of fun up until now is not really motivating me to push on.

I don't know, man. I want to love this game but I just can't. There is an annoyance every time I start to feel warm and fuzzy inside. It bums me out. I just don't think it's all that fun to play!

I know this post seems a bit scattershot, but I'm not really good at writing my thoughts down consitently.

SR 2 is awesome but not as batshit as SR3 & SR4 as others have said.
If you are going to play SR2 on PC then have a look for IdolNinja's Gentlemen of the Row mod pack. You can choose which mods to install and i bundles them for you, it's phenomenal.

Also have a look at his Powertool for Timing so you can work out how to get the game running at the right speed on your rig. SR2 has issues with clock speeds that do not match the Xbox 360 speeds but it's simple to fix with the IdolNinja tools.

Overall, SR2 is still head and shoulders above SR3 and SR IV for me.

It was just so good. It perfectly mixed the crazyness, seriousness and the ridiculousness and had a lot of content ( activities that were fun)

Just finished this about an hour ago and I certainly enjoyed myself. I think I was a little less impressed than I was with Saints Row: The Third, probably because when I played it I had skipped out on Saints Row 2. So I was at a loss for words after seeing how drastically things had changed.

Nonetheless. Really enjoyed my time with it. Happy to see it sold as well as it did too. While Saints Row initially was nothing more than a Grand Theft Auto knock-off? It's now a completely fantastic game on its own, totally deserving of every bit of praise it gets.
