Saints Row The Third |OT| Oscar Worthy Gameplay

the replay mod is updated to v2
http://idolninja.com/blog/?p=1259
Come and get the brand new Mission Replay mod v2 that adds 4 strongholds and 18 minor character arc mission replays, and also fixes a ton of bugs from the initial release!

v2 Changelog

Added 4 stronghold missions and 18 minor character missions to replay:
Stronghold: The Powder Room
Stronghold: Pimps Up, Hos Down
Stronghold: Stop All The Downloading
Stronghold: 3 Count Beatdown
Pierce, Kinzie, Zimos, Angel arcs (18 activity and cutscene missions)

FIXES:

m01 Good Heists Gone Bad – Game no longer crashes after completion. Character customization skipped on replay. Mission script bug where players could not shoot out the window of the plane has been fixed for both replay and first time playthrough.

m03 We’re Going to Need Guns – Skips Friendly Fire weapon upgrading/purchase check on replay so players with full ammo/upgrades can get past this point by simply exiting out of the menu.

m07 Return to Steelport – Safeword BDSM Club zone now loads correctly so you can rescue Zimos. The door in the manager’s office was also fixed to open correctly after interrogation

sh02 Pimps Up, Hos Down – Safeword BDSM Club loads correctly and no longer teleports players to the roof on start. Also, players are teleported back outside at mission complete and should no longer stuck in the garage where the brute was killed.

sh03 Stop All the Downloading. The parachute into the core section should now always load the correct zone and not have the player fall through the bottom. Kinzie’s dialogue no longer overlaps with players on replay during the heli section.

m06 The Belgian Problem – Second Elevator now always works correctly, and mission completion now teleports players out of the building correctly

m08 Trojan Whores – End cutscene now has the correct background of the nuke plant underground

m16 http://deckers.die – End cutscene now correctly shows the 3 Count Casino background

m24 Gangstas in Space – Now loads all final postgame zones on replay. If you want to set everything to proper endgame, simply play and complete this mission or just start it and immediately cancel

Stag Plane crash now loads correctly on Arapice island for zombie takeover and zombie zone world states should now be correct

Stag zones world state should now load the correct options on replay

Ew, this game is gross, really regret buying it. Bububut it's fun. Bullshit, it's just retarded. Can't wait for GTA V, return of the King bitch.

Nice criticisms. Oh wait, you didn't list any. Sorry that Saints Row actually allows for free roam gameplay unlike GTA's script-a-thon hand-holding "gameplay."

Quick question. Does your character sing with the radio at all outside of that one mission?

For SR:TT, it's just that one song this time around (What I Got). In SR2, we found that while players enjoyed the sing-a-long and it was a huge hit, the majority of players didn't even know what it was, since it kinda came out of nowhere. That's why this time it was built into the one specific mission, and then can happen randomly after that with the same song.

Those recording sessions were still hilarious though. They had only one take to nail it, so any mess ups or ad-libbing is completely on the individual voice actor.

Still an amazing feature. Little details like this go a long way with me. Laughed my ass off at a russian chick's portrayal of sublime.

Calling in a bunch of homies for some free roam zombie killing is pretty fun.
A higher (than hardcore) difficulty, to make the zombies more lethal would be awesome. As would the random appearence of zombie-brutes.

As fuzzy/flat as this game looks on consoles, I still find myself spending hours just finding interesting angles to take screenshots of the city. This may actually become the first game I've ever bought for consoles and PC just to experience the PC textures and mods.

Ok cool, I just haven't heard him sing outside of the mission. Looks like I just need to spend more time driving around.

Guess I shouldn't have hit the nitro on my bike...

Edit: To clarify what's happening in this picture, I hit nitro to see how far I could jump off the bridge and my bike tried to go through instead of over. It's now fused in there. I however ragdolled really far!

I was worried about having to grind to find those small cars for the challenge, but then I got a call to defend Let's Pretend against some angry mascots. Took care of that challenge in no time!

God I love this game.

Question for those that have beat the game
Is it better to go with the Mayor or Oleg for the zombie choice?

This game. Is so. GOOD. I want...to cry. ;_;

It's GTA4 on steroids grounded with and overdosage of 'e. So visceral, yet oh so magical.

Some missions can be a little bit of a grind, but I have never smiled and laughed this much over the course of one game's campaign. NEVER.

Volition for President 2012.

I'm almost at 100% but don't know how to finish the gang taunt challenge. I've got the one for the achievement, but this challenge seems specifically for other gangs. I've cleared everyone out and the side stuff Ive tried has them instantly hostile against me, which taunting doesn't seem to count towards.

Should have finished the challenges earlier.

Just beat.

My final thoughts. The sandbox stuff is kind of a step down. I miss being able to customize fighting styles, and ripping stuff out of the ground. Also, I loved how in SR2 you could break pretty much all the windows in a building. This could lead to some pretty funny things to do. It seems like Volition made sure there were less exploits and potential for glitches, but I didn't mind them in SR2. They added to the fun.

However, the story is infinitely better than the second game. I loved the all-out approach they went with. I'd much rather have unbridled craziness than another generic gangster story. Also some of the gameplay quirks were hilarious and awesome.
Turning into a toilet. A text-based adventure. Mech fighting.
That was gold.

I loved it. I'll be looking forward to a fourth.

Definitely had this problem as well- I ended up joining a co-op game, and doing about 20 taunts there. The taunts only count if you approach a gang member in a non-combat situation and then taunt. What I did find was that if you saved when near one of your strongholds, sometimes gang members would randomly spawn close to it. I'd taunt, save, quit, repeat.

I do hope Volition maybe add some random gang members walking around in a patch perhaps. This challenge (be advised SHOULD BE DONE before 100%ing all territories) is not difficult, but feels impossible when you've spent time clearing out everyone!

Have you done the Kenshin Superbike Vehicle Theft mission? If not that's a pretty easy way to get it.

Earlier in the thread, jgminto also recommended trying it during a vehicle challenge. Hope this helps!

How about the assassination missions? I'm supposed to grab a gang member to get the guy to show up in a specific area, but I've 100% all the areas.

Edit: Actually as soon as I entered the area, they gave me 1 star for the gang. That helped :)

You're right, they seem to spawn around strongholds, probably anywhere else too. I just didnt spend much time looking that hard and I've got it up to 30/50 now, so I was worrying for nothing.

In Tom Chick's latest podcast, he talks with Saint's Row 3's lead designer. Should be a good listen for fans of the game:

http://www.quartertothree.com/fp/2011/12/08/qt3-games-podcast-saints-row-3-lead-designer-scott-phillips-explains-it-all/

Saints Row 3 lead designer Scott Phillips shows up to solve a few mysteries like why you can’t replay missions, why butts are pixellated but purple dildos aren’t, what’s going on in that mission where you’re suddenly drugged and naked, and what happened to Freckle Bitches. I should warn you that if you haven’t finished the storyline, we do discuss specific plot points, such as the fate of [redacted], the late game arrival of [redacted], and the [redacted] on Arapice Island.

I'm tempted to buy the Invincible Pack. I still have that free $5 credit from the PSN promotion. Anyone know a COMPLETE list of cheats that it gives you?

Why? Just play the game and you will earn everything naturally. As far as I know, it just makes you the equivalent of lvl 50 and you have bought everything.

At no point when I was playing on normal did I feel overwhelmed. You're throwing money away imo.

I'm going to listen to this. The naked part was jarring and felt like they had to drop some storyline along the way to tell me why I'm naked and fighting my way out.

I'm level 50 and not even done with the game. It seems easy now. The only 2 challenges I'm having a problem with are the difficult "Insurance" and the "Toad Race" ones. I just can't seem to get $450,000 Insurance Fraud...

Fun stuff.

I'm pretty sure I remember Zimos saying he was going to sell me off as a sex slave, and a lot of dialogue suggesting that roofies factored heavily into what happened next.

Huh...
Don't recall anything about the roofie stuff. Just remember Zimos calling me a bitch and him telling me that I have to do what has to be done in hilarious autotune.
Maybe I missed that part.
Just gives me more reason to play through it again from the beginning.

Edit: Instead of a double post... I discovered you can fly a passenger jet!

That was an interesting interview. Im glad Scott admitted he wasnt a fan of Freckle Bitchs'. I never liked the name either or thought it was clever.
I'd still like to see a new fast food franchise in SR4.
Getting rid of the censor bars on naked characters would be nice too. Fair enough, they should stay on potential victims (AI's), but not on the player themselves, IMO.

I've beaten the game. I like dicking around with cheats in sandbox games after I beat them. I was disappointed that they made invulnerability and unlimited ammo DLC, but I did recently get $5 to blow on PSN, so it doesn't seem like the worst purchase. There would have to be a significant amount of cheats to get me to buy though, and I can't seem to find a full list online.

Ahh, good point. Unfortunately it looks like this 'cheat' package just power levels you. Much like EA and their sports games.

Yeah, because you come back from that cutscene with a shaky camera perspective for 5 minutes or so.

Has anybody had issues with the 5.1 on this? I put it on last night and the center channel seems to mute a lot of effects but they arent balanced correctly so guns/cars sound really flat. I mean, I can just play it with 2.1 instead I guess - couple posts on the forums about it but no real response.

The interview is really good, and it does explain some of the questionable omissions. According to them, the replay mechanic was one of the buggiest parts of SR2, responsible for thousands of bugs. I could see that -- the fan-made editor doesn't seem to be bug-free.

Also, the reason for no food is so the off-hand grenade mechanic could be implemented.

I have noticed that a lot of dialogue in the surround channels comes out pretty low sounding.

I am totally loving this game! So smart and funny and really well done as far as money/leveling/respect is structured. I am totally compelled to keep building up my character.

I do disagree though with the sentiment that this is where GTA "should have gone". I love this game and I love GTA IV, both for their own reasons, both pretty much equally at this point. Two beautifully designed, AAA experiences.

The most fun I've had with a campaign this year, and I thought the first two were rather crummy.

Trying to tie up stuff: how the hell do you beat the hard insurance frauds levels? Also, doing an escort right now and it says get 3 near misses in a row. I've gotten like 9 in a row max and it wouldn't count wtf.

Exactly how I feel. They both have went their opposite ways and I equally enjoy what each brings to the table.

Insurance Fraud - Head to the freeway

As for the latter, sounds like the bug with the HUD where the UI's not updating but you're actually getting it. It should have still registered even if the counter's not updating.

Would love that. I was happy when I found out there was a way to have zombie mode with co-op. You can also climb the
crashed plane in the center

Makes me wonder why the zombie code doesn't work in co-op..
