Sakurai on DLC: “It’s All About Making Players Happy”

Hazard Pack
- Master Hand Boss on Final Destination
- Wind Hazard on Battlefield
- Wily Machine Hazard on Wily Castle
- Wildlife Hazard on Gaur Plains
- King Hippo Boss on Boxing Ring
- Hazard Toggle

There, everyone's happy. (It'll never happen)

Wait, Wily Machine? So when Yellow Devil goes away a new hazard appears?

Actions speak louder than words and I'm not seeing much action.

Other than mk8 all of nintendo's dlc tactics been crap and just as anti consumer as everyone else.

I rather have Miku as a second Sega representative than fucking Knuckles or any other Sonic character.

Just imagine her trailer with the Chorus Kids or something.

This needs to be a GIF yesterday.

Mewtwo hype got me back into Smash Bros. Today I bought a Bowser amiibo. I had been clean since January. Curses!
One of us, one of us!

Phantasy Star Online character for second SEGA rep. PSO on GC was so good.

DLC begging aside, Sakurai really gets it. I just hope he's managing to not kill his arm. I also really wonder what kind of project he might move on to after this.

hmmmm.... nah

Rayman and Wonder Red, then we can talk
I am willing to negotiate with the person holding all of them hostage. No one gets left behind.

And Sakurai said, let there be rhythm, and it was good.

Preach it -Horizon-
Won't stop, can't stop until she's in.

All I want from Nintendo is to realize in ALL their titles that involve multiplayer that putting in instant kill tools and stage deaths is the opposite of rewarding fun and they need to nerf THOSE. No one in Mario Kart 7 liked losing to stage hazards in battle mode and no one liked garbage like the flying blue shell. The stage hazards in Smash were NEVER something people enjoyed losing to and many incredible stages would exist were it not for them being poisoned with hazards like the bird in the Earthbound 3ds Sm4sh stage or the over the top hazards on the Kalos Pokemon League stage.

For that matter losing to things like legendary pokemon, the beetle, or other one hit free win items is also not fun. Items were something everyone used to like but now so many just outright net you a stock outright that it just upsets casuals and hardcore alike. Plus what is the point of masterballs if the regular pokeballs STILL have legendary in it?

All I ask Nintendo is that you listen to one thing...if its about making the fans happy stop putting in hazards that kill so easily in your multiplayer games. Nerf them in the games you have out if you can because no one really gets to play or feel good when cheap deaths are more rampant than real ones players earned. You are robbing folks of any sense of accomplishment and it lessens the quality of balance in your multiplayer modes to emphasize such cheap combat comeback mechanics as a "guaranteed kill" hazards and items. Give us an environment where we can stretch our legs and see how good we can get again without things like cheap tools and hazards holding folks back from actually getting good at your games.

Good to hear, now make every character ever playable. It's the only way to make everyone happy.

Miku or bust

I can agree on the Beetle and Boss Galaga but Pokemon and Pokeballs? People love Pokemon and the Pokeballs. I know I do and they still largely act the same as they did in Smash 64, Melee and Brawl. Latias and Latios are pretty much the new version of Unown from Melee and Beedrill from Smash 64.

Hazards do need a toggle or if there are new stages, reduced to a smaller section so they're not really in the way like in Smash 64 and Melee.

Yeah damn the man, preach it brother, who needs chaos when we could have order.

Glad to here, but if it's really about making fans happy, why are we getting Mii outfits that can't be used online instead of skins for other Nintendo characters? Seriously alternate outfits are perfect for personalization, and honoring past iterations of characters. I hate to make the comparison, but PM and its skins are a great idea and should have been in Brawl properly, when Wario had an alt. I thought they would chance it in 4 but it seems like that's not the case.

Can't wait for the other characters.

Can we not bring this in here? This is unnecessary and unrelated to the topic.

It's true though. A few free DLC characters and a map or two doesn't erase the fact that he's spent the past decade shitting all over the series' most dedicated fans.

I 1000% agree there should be a hazard toggle but stuff like the bolded has its fans and has a legit game design purpose. Don't try to speak for everyone on those points.

Sakurai gets it.
The other 99% of the Industry doesn't.

Someone, give this man a good handshake, a cookie, and all of the awards.

Yeah, but fucking Roy as DLC doesn't make me happy. How about a new Donkey Kong rep (Dixie pls), Inkling, Wonder Red and others instead?

God please no. The only acceptable DK addition would be Cranky Kong.
Seriously though, King K. Rool

They should definitely add Inkling though.

That depends on a number of factors. But if you want to vote for her, be my guest.

Voting is still open?

I may be
(no, probably definitely am)
the only one thinking this, but the new character I really want is Captain N: The Game Master. Throw Kevin Keene in as DLC, and I'll be there on day one with my money.

Assuming that Nintendo owns the rights to the character, of course.
Nope, not the only one

That's a little why I'm hoping for Simon Belmont too. (Besides the fact that a Simon Belmont with Mega Man's design logic would be very cool). Unfortunately, Sakurai's approach to picking characters doesn't really favor a semi-obscure English language cartoon from decades ago.

At this point, maybe we can hope for a Mii Gunner outfit based on the letterman jacket and zapper weapon.

Honestly most of those stages don't need more bullshit added, but they're the cross-game stages which I think would be the ones they'd be most willing to support so I used them as examples. Also in my head any hazard toggle worth its salt (and our money) would use a system similar to item switch or My Music where each hazard can be removed individually. At that point you might as well pile bullshit onto each stage and let the users sort it out.

the industry would be great if this were the norm.

i'm grateful for post-game support and title updates. there are many games from the PS1/GC era that i wanted more content for after their releases.

however, the business practices behind delivering this content are bogus, to put it mildly.

Wrong. Except in the case of Mario Party 10 where one-third of the game is locked behind an amiibo paywall, and to some extent they overdid the DLC for Hyrule Warriors. Might just be coincidence, but I was really into that game until they started to spam DLC near-constantly, making me burn out on the game totally and utterly. :/
