Ahh why you have to go upset me again?

Really admired the guy, he came from pretty humble background and worked his way up. He was passionate about the the company he ran, and about the games they produced and it felt like he made a lot of friends along the way.

I guess what I'll remember him for the most is his willingness to take risks, some paid off big time, some not so much; but we need more risk takers in this business and the fact he stayed around even during the bad times said a lot about him.

On the flipside who do have? People like Phil Spencer and Major Nelson who apart from their very clearly manufactured public personas I feel absolutely no connection to. Everything they say, down to every t-shirt they wear under their jacket, feels like it's been controlled by a PR agency.

Rest in peace.

I guess the one nice thing from this is, we still don't know anything about the NX which I'm sure he had a lot of input in; so maybe his greatest work is still to come in a way.
Inb4 it's just a fucking handheld which doubles as a controller

I finished Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe the other week. Was the first Nintendo game I'd played to the credits in over a year. Was the first time I got hit with that punch many others have in seeing Iwata's name credited.

I still can't believe it's real. It doesn't drag down my daily life, but it does occur every once in a while that we'll never see him again. And that's a very saddening realization.

I was just thinking about how happy would he be if he saw all the people walking around, catching Pokémon, making friends and having fun. After all, he had a hand in the conception of Pokemon Go.

His gifts to our community are still coming, we have yet to see the NX.

I really miss the man, he is clearly one of the legends of gaming.

Always made me wonder if the rest of the board knew he was going to pass soon. Must have been a terrible feeling for them if true. Seems they would follow Iwata to the very end.

At least Kimishima and Miyamoto knew, they said as much in the last shareholder meeting they had.

I love thinking about how much he would have enjoyed the enthusiasm over Pokémon Go.

I really do miss him like I've never missed a celebrity before. May he rest in peace.

One of the saddest days in the gaming industry. At least it looks like his plans to resurrect Nintendo is going well under the new leadership.

- Pokemon Go is a success
- People are excited for LoZ: BotW
- The NX seems to have a following even though it hasn't been unveiled yet.

The future for Nintendo is bright again thanks to his groundwork.

Thank you, Mr. Iwata.

I always cry inside when I think about the fact that he's gone, but thinking about the great things he did and how his plans are still guiding Nintendo into the future right now makes me happy and it makes me (laugh).

Truly a great man who left us far too soon - I still feel a pang of sadness when I see his name in game credits. I still miss the spark he brought to Nintendo, especially with Nintendo Direct and Iwata Asks.

May you continue to Rest In Peace, Iwata-san.

I finally understand.

When I heard, I went to the Nintendo World Store in NYC and just kind of hung out for a while. They had a very nice setup and books for people to sign. It was a kind thing for a kind man.

Itoi's words are the ones that hit the hardest, but that's Itoi. It still hurts, always will.

When I beat The Thousand Year Door again recently, this made the credits all the more bittersweet. It brings back all those emotions from that day. I hope there is a future where Nintendo continues to prosper, so that Iwata can continue to see the fruits of his efforts and everything he contributed. No matter what, he will always be appreciated.

It's hard to look at that first picture of him in the OP. That's not how I wanted to remember Iwata.

Fuck cancer. I want Mr. Iwata back. Nintendo needs him now more than ever.

One day early, but Iwata will be remembered for all he's done for this industry I am certain, remembered as one of the greats who helped engineer it, and was a charming character who earned his popular reputation to the various contributions he made, the kindness and determination he presented, and the visionary that he was. He was talented in many fields, and more than that, he was a passionate, caring, and decent human being.

I almost forgot this topic was going to come up. His death is on my birthday, but I don't mind being reminded of him right before it. He deserves the commendation, in my opinion. And I do really believe he'll be remembered for all he did. It's good for the now to remember his decency as a human being, and I'm happy it's been well-documented. I do think him as a figure and his early works/classics will be remembered, as well as contributions to this industry. I truly do.

Yuup, as a person with a birthday on July 11th as well, it was quite the gut punch last year, and somehow despite posting in the thread about Iwata that popped up a few months ago, I had almost forgotten his death date coincided on this day until this topic popped up, but it doesn't hurt to remember. And if anyone hasn't, I do recommend the video as well. Watched it when the GAF topic on it was posted previously, incredibly well made and informative retrospective of his life.

I hear you. My birthday is July 11th as well. Last year was rough. :(

We miss you, Mr. Iwata.

I teared up the other day when beating Planet Robobot seeing his name scroll by during the credits.

Thanks for everything, Iwata. Still so hard to believe it's been more than a year since we last saw him in a direct, or read an Iwata Asks. End of an era indeed.

It's still hard for me to believe he's gone.

I plan on booting up Earthbound either tonight or tomorrow in memory of him. (I also still need to beat it...)

RIP

Something I'll always remember is those people around here who during the 2012-2014 period constantly ridiculed and pissed on Iwata due to what happened with the Wii U and such, and wanted him fired.

It's true what they say, the grass is always greener, and you don't really know what it is you have, until it's gone....gone...

Gone.

Although he did not do them for very long, I will always miss seeing him opening Nintendo Directs delivering the goods "directly" to you.

May you continue to rest in peace, Mr. Iwata.

I posted about this in the thread when he died. About how the internet was going ape slamming Nintendo, Iwata and everyone else involved at the decisions Nintendo were making. Didn't Iwata even release a statement about how sorry Nintendo were and they will try better?

It's hard thinking about that stuff now knowing he's passed, All those negative comments he definitely read or was informed about.. It should be a reminder for people to be more chill and less harsh as a community.

I'm sad that he died right after the negative feedback from fans at E3 2015.

Wish he were alive to see the reaction to Zelda and Pokemon Go. He didn't even last long enough to unveil his vision with the NX. It's quite untimely.

Seeing this a few months ago at the end of Star Fox Zero made me realize that, even now after all this time, the fact that he's gone hasn't sunk in yet for me.

An incredible man.

Except for Star Fox, have any other games paid tribute to Mr. Iwata?
