Saw someone on NYC subway playing Switch. The Switch has made it.

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
During my daily commute here in NYC the last 234 years, it's been pretty rare to see someone playing a handheld system on the subway. Maybe two times a year. To be honest, I haven't seen any handheld the last year or 2, though, as everyone just plays games on their phone.

That said, last night, there was a girl playing Zelda on her Switch. I gave her a high five and we discussed all our favorite shrines, and we readily agreed that having weapons break after 1 hit was totally the right way to go, and we hoped every other game incorporated that mechanic going forward.

Seriously though, I thought the chance of seeing a Switch on the subway was near 0. The weird thing (to me) was that she just put it into her backpack as she left the train. I'd want a carrying case for that badboy.

I only play portables in my house, feels weird to take it outside when I'm having a social life i wouldn't waste spending my time outside gaming still pretty sad imo, unless for some one or two minute casual games at random times

I play on the 2/3 train every single day and then throw it into my backpack...

but its the actual switch backpack that has little pockets for everything so its all good.

I do that all the time. Switch, 3DS, you name it, I have it out on the subway. My ride's a good 40 minutes, plenty of time to squeeze in a few shrines in Zelda or a battle in Echoes.

Though you're right, it's pretty rare for me to see anyone else playing something other than mobile/tablet on the train. I always smile and nod at the ones that aren't though.

Was it Dan Ryckert? Probably not, lol

Also congratulations on taking the NYC subway everyday for the last 234 years!

I think the bigger issue going undiscussed here is the fact that the OP is apparently over 200 years old.

What's your secret?

Was she playing with gray or neon joycons?

I don't live in ny, I'm there maybe 3 or 4 times a year and use the subway and usually always see people with a 3ds. How do you never see this op?

I play my Switch on the 2/3 Train everyday. I still catch the occasional 3DS once or twice a week. I've only ever seen one other person playing a switch though. We ended up playing a match in Mario Kart.

Really? I think I see at least one handheld on every ride. The last time I was actually surprised at seeing a handheld on a subway ride was when someone busted out an OG Gameboy like 2 or 3 years ago lol

Other than belittling people with a different opinion, what purpose does this post serve? How did saying this play in your mind to think it's a good contribution?

Saw a guy play Switch the other day in the same train, sat right next to him, saw he was playing Mario Kart, I pulled out my Switch and asked if he wants to play a round or two.

He packed his Switch in his bag, stood up and went away. Saw him sitting on the stairs when I left the train, still playing Mario Kart. :(

I saw a girl also playing the Switch with Zelda on the A the other day.

I dunno about you not seeing people playing handhelds, because I do/did all the time before. Not as much these days. But I do see a lot of businessmen with 3DS XLs.

My Son was in hospital the day of the Switch launch in the UK. Kid appeared in the bed next to him with one.

I never saw a 3DS in the wild but a Switch, day 1 was mind blowing.

Thought at first it might be something from within the hospital itself but seemed not to be the case.

Nintendo are on to a winner.

You're lucky noone overheard that heresy.

As for your main point I've seen people with Vitas uncommonly on the subway. Mobile games are way more popular. The Switch being played on the NYC subway is a give in.

I'm more surprised at who I learn about playing the Switch at where I work, including those in different companies we coexist with.

Is that supposed to be a big deal? I also refuse to believe you've never seen a 3DS in the wild.

I've seen a few Switches in the wild, but no more often than I've seen 3DSs. It's still pretty cool, given their relative rareness still.
