Saw someone on NYC subway playing Switch. The Switch has made it.

People who take the same bus line as me have the uncanny privilege to see me play handheld consoles in the wild. Including the Vita, no less.

I'm paranoid now to play my Switch on my flight next Saturday because someone might make a thread about seeing me play on a plane and have it be like the reveal trailer.

Kidding about the make a thread part, but it could happen. Probably.

Hey I see you are playing the Nintendo Switch video game console and you are also a girl! High five good for you!

I seriously wonder if OP would have handed out a five to a dude. Some of y'all are transparent

I actually ran down the length of the train, high-fiving every girl but ignoring the guys. I'm secretly hoping one of the girls writes a Craigslist missed connections post about me.

I was rocking my Uniqlo "Metroid 1986" t shirt today whilst playing Kamiko on the Switch, just in case anyone needed further confirmation that I'm a bit of a geek.

I regularly see people playing 3DS on the subway. I remember even battling a rando on another cart when Pokemon XY was released.

The real rare sight for me was spotting someone playing Dragonball Dokkan on the train.

Why the F would I high five a stranger?!

That's how germs spread.

Saw a guy play Switch the other day in the same train, sat right next to him, saw he was playing Mario Kart, I pulled out my Switch and asked if he wants to play a round or two.

He packed his Switch in his bag, stood up and went away. Saw him sitting on the stairs when I left the train, still playing Mario Kart. :(

Sad-cons

I haven't seen a single Switch in the wild here in Madrid, but that's understandable as I've not seen one in stores either. I don't even know what its box looks like.

I only play portables in my house, feels weird to take it outside when I'm having a social life i wouldn't waste spending my time outside gaming still pretty sad imo, unless for some one or two minute casual games at random times

Thanks for telling us about your social life and how sad it is for us to play portables outside. I can't imagine a better avenue for this announcement than an videogame specialist internet forum.

I take it you're one of those guys who leans on the subway doors.

DS never left. Always #1.

And I was obviously kidding about the high five, talking to her, etc. Why the F would I high five a stranger?!

Damn straight. I might give it to the GBA depending on the day, though.

Have you gone back to the DS recently?

I had trouble after playing the Vita a lot, even though I still want to play some DS games.

I imagine for people getting used to the switch, the DS would be incredibly hard to go back to.

I will say that the micro GBA is my favorite handheld system of all time. Just so damn small and games look great. My kingdom for a micro DS system with a flip up 2nd screen or something.

omg i cry

Really? I think I see at least one handheld on every ride. The last time I was actually surprised at seeing a handheld on a subway ride was when someone busted out an OG Gameboy like 2 or 3 years ago lol

Yeah I'm not sure which line op rides but I see people with handhelds all the time on NYC subway.

Nintendo somehow make handheld hip and cool again, in this mobile phone world.
Kinda crazy if you tell me this would happen in 2016.

I've never seen anyone using one yet.

That said, I've also never seen anyone using a 3DS or Vita.

I've seen plenty of 3DSs when I lived in the UK, but here in Europe, not a single one. Rarely get street passes either.

I play vita on a train almost every day I go to work in ny. Would never take my switch though. Only time I've seen others with handhelds was when Pokémon came out.

When the source thread sounds like a parody thread.

I saw someone playing their switch waiting for the same flight a week after the system came out. Meanwhile I was trying to finish Bravely Default on my 3DS.

Making a thread because you saw someone using a portable in public is a bit ridiculous.

During my daily commute here in NYC the last 234 years, it's been pretty rare to see someone playing a handheld system on the subway. Maybe two times a year. To be honest, I haven't seen any handheld the last year or 2, though, as everyone just plays games on their phone.

That said, last night, there was a girl playing Zelda on her Switch. I gave her a high five and we discussed all our favorite shrines, and we readily agreed that having weapons break after 1 hit was totally the right way to go, and we hoped every other game incorporated that mechanic going forward.

Seriously though, I thought the chance of seeing a Switch on the subway was near 0. The weird thing (to me) was that she just put it into her backpack as she left the train. I'd want a carrying case for that badboy.

Which part was the joke, the talking about weapon degradation or the talking to a girl?

Every day since the Switch launched, you have commuted via Subway. The NYC subway is one of the largest and most used subway systems on Earth. During this time you have seen 1 person playing Switch on the subway.

Clearly it's a huge success.

I actually have seen 2 people with 3DSes in the past couple days. So handhelds haven't been a rare sighting for me, but haven't seen a Switch in the wild yet

I play my Switch almost daily in Chicago on the CTA Red/Brown lines. I've actually seen someone else playing too. He was wearing the same exact colors as me too...

I wanted to date him.

I have you all beat.

On the NYC subway I saw someone playing the Japanese version of Dangan Ronpa on a PSP. He was balancing the PSP on the top half of a 3DS and reading a translation from the bottom screen of the 3DS (this was before DR hit the states.)

Many people in NYC avoid showing expensive electronics cuz robbery. I know I generally avoid having anything expensive visible when I go around the city.

I live in London and I saw a couple guys on the overground playing on a single Switch the day after launch. I've since seen it on a couple more occasions on the tube, and when I went to visit my family outside of London, I even ended up sitting next to a guy playing Lego City Undercover for the entire 2 hour ride home.

I don't even travel all that much honestly.

I'm confused a great deal by the existence of this thread.

This is one of those moments where I wonder if people really find their daily moments so interesting that everyone should know about them.

Which trains are you even riding that you don't see portables in public? Hell, I still see people playing the PSP on NYC subways. Saw a dude doing it about two weeks ago. Game looked like it was Madden.
