Do you mean SAC or the movies? SAC had a really good English dub but I dunno about the movies. I like the English dub of the first film even though a couple of lines were botched but I felt like the translation was overall better especially during the philosophical scenes. I actually prefer the 2nd movie in Japanese because the translation was a lot better but the English dub was pretty good.

I'm not familiar enough with the manga to say but it sounds like typical Oshii to add a detail like that.
Yeah, but in the movie their relationship is much more nuanced, with the romantic feelings being suppressed out of professionalism and respect for Motoko. I always appreciated that element and it'd be a shame for them to throw it out.

I just want to remind you guys that the mange getting a faithful adaptation in SAC was a small miracle to begin with.
Having a faithful adaptation of live action movie in Hollywood would be 2 miracles in a roll.

Completely agree with this actually. I even prefer the Japanese dub in the second movie (and only the second movie) even though the English dub is the SAC crew, since it's heavy on the philosophical talk which I would rather read.

If not the main maybe the supporting characters.
I didn't really like the manga. I read the two books and avoided 1.5 or 0.5 or whatever it was but it didn't really match the Oshii films at all. The tone of the first season of SAC was a lot closer to the manga but I didn't care for the first season too much. 2nd GIG was a lot better and even fleshed out the ancillary characters like Sato and Paz and even Ishikawa a little more.

I don't think they made a big deal of it, but her girlfriend shows up in a few episodes. She's a nurse IIRC. And there's other stuff, like one episode where's she's reviewing the current case at night, and you can see several undressed girls asleep on the bed in the background and wine glasses and such around her.
In the manga I believe, but I can't remember her showing any interest in men in SAC.

Since forever. In the manga Batou accidentally intrudes upon her all woman cyber orgy in a tropical cyber space and it's the first time, to the readers knowledge, Kusanagi makes Batou Punch himself.

Not fluent in English; so that would be a tough casting, unfortunately.
If the movie was going to get made regardless of who they cast; then I'd be a little more annoyed. But seeing as that the movie doesn't happen unless they get a major star; I'd rather not have perfect be the enemy of good (a lesbian/bi-sexual female action hero - that's a fairly big step)

They (anime movies) also complete missed the cyberpunk undertone.

The English dub for SAC is fucking horrible.
Especially McGlynn as Motoko.
To be honest though, i just don't like the English VA in either the movie or SAC.
I usually watch them in Italian or Japanese.

Well, there's her feelings for Kuze. She also possibly slept with Batou near the end of 1st GIG in SAC, and there's the teenager she teased when she went to Taiwan in 2nd GIG. Then in Arise she does have an onscreen boyfriend.

Yup, it's in it's own separate continuity from both SAC and the original movies.
Did anyone actually complain about white washing Edge of Tomorrow? I guess most didn't know the manga it was based on.

Some people I know are poo-pooing this choice. But I think that Scarlett could work, provided a costume department that works off of her strengths and a director who can make her sweat (in a good way).
At the same time, I think this project is far from solid right now. And let me just remind people of the NGE and Akira movies as well as of the Highlander reboot. All of those had some big names attached to them and almost nothing panned out.
Will remain cautiously optimistic, but I did not care for Scarlett in Lucy (and I think this project has a similar vibe). Hollywood is likely not to include the philosophical bits of the original movie and if they do, they'll be corny as hell.
