Any news on Boyes yet? My hope is that its like Shu where his role is basically unchanged as Adam is awesome but I have not seen anything just yet. Also I'd miss his GB appearances...

Adam retweeted messages about it. There's really no reason to suspect that anything has changed as far as their positions go. Like I said earlier, this is more for Sony as a company. It's not something that'll really impact gamers.

Not having "Sony Computer Entertainment Presents" anymore will hurt :(

At worst, it simply means their boss may have a new boss.

The wisest part of all this is that 'Global partner development & relations' is a primary segment headed by House himself. If that means continuing to put developer relations to the fore and scouting for the best talent/teams.

Headquartering in the US is also interesting.

So Adam report to House and Shu report to Layden.

And hopefully that since Andy looks at PlayStation from a global perspective, he can prioritise that from a global perspective as well.

I think the news is more of a refection that Japan is not heading Sony's gaming in any meaningful way. The structural changes are more of a understanding of where development and their potential audience is.

Is SIE still a part of Sony, or are they now a truly separate company that is owned by Sony [SIE will get their own financial reports]?

Having separate divisions is what made PS a global brand. I hope that doesn't change.

Not a fan of the new name. Sony Computer Entertainment has so much history. Are we even going to see it on their published games anymore? Or any type of intro?

Is the diamond logo going to change?

I think this is kind of recognition that Japan is a declining force in video games. Kind of sad in a way.

PS4 was designed by westerners for the western market and it's printing money for Sony. This move is Sony corporate doubling down on that strategy for the future.

More evidence Of Sony long term moving to service models across the board.

Still, feels like they are finally trying to get their ducks in a row.

Also, this may be a sign that the firmware and PSN development is moving from japan, so thats good.
Their FW team somehow gets more competent by moving to the US? Suuuuure...

Really tires of quasi racist stuff like this.

He's not trying to be quasi racist at all I think he is just commenting on the logistics of things. Easier collaboration between all things at Sony. People wanted them to move that team over here for a long time, it's been discussed many times in firmware threads.

No. The firmware team becomes more competent by being invested in more and working as a more unified part of a whole rather than a semi-automonous entity.

Furthermore with the firmware team potentially being western based there is a chance roadmaps and future updates will be communicated more frequently and effectively.

Its got nothing to do with racism. But it patently obvious that the current Firmware team both has a investment problem and a commincations problem.

It isn't racist. Japan has a real lack of software talent because it has been seen as lesser work in comparison to actually building stuff like cars. You might as well have told your dad you wanted to be a Kubuki busker as design UIs because the reaction would have been the same. Iwata's dad not talking to him for 5 years because he went into software wasn't an isolated attitude.
