This is all I can think about right now

Hmm makes sense to merge the divisions. A more cohesive worldwide playstation business can hopefully only be a good thing for us. I'll still be calling it SCE for year to come no doubt but long live SIE!

I think he means the people writing the backend aka PSN's database and etc not necessarily the servers and who is keeping the servers up.

When people talk about PSN, they almost always talk about the servers, and the servers have been on AWS for a long time.

Can it be......

The beginning of PSN 2.0.......
Eh, same guy who has been in charge of it since 2013 is still head of the division.
John Kodera

President, Sony Network Entertainment International

John Kodera joined Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI) as Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy in 2010. He was named President, SNEI in April 2013.

In his current role, Mr. Kodera drives vision, strategy, and execution for network services, with the goal of offering consumers convenient access to premium digital music, videos, games, and more throughout a wide array of Sony and third party devices. His responsibilities include strategic planning and business development, operation of the company’s digital service businesses and infrastructure, alignment of Sony-wide network service activities, and delivery of network service to all relevant device platforms.

Prior to joining SNEI, Mr. Kodera held the position of Vice President, Business & Product Strategy, VAIO of America, with Sony Electronics (SEL) in US. He joined SEL in 1998 and held a variety of positions managing portable, mobile and network products, and overseeing functions including Business Planning & Strategy and Product Planning & Marketing. He joined Sony Corporation in 1992 and worked in Business Planning in Tokyo for six years before coming to the U.S.

Mr. Kodera received his B.A. from Gakushuin University in Tokyo.

I wish I understood what this meant.

Same here to some extent, in some ways it makes sense but in some it also seems weird doing it now with the flow seemingly back working like in the PS1 and PS2 days with the right leadership team in place.

Other than some streamlining I don't really see the point of this when they seemingly had one of the best international set ups around that seemed well set up to enable each bringing attention to interesting outside partner things from their areas to the table for the rest (aside from the occasions where some Sony Japanese games didn't get localized). Like Withnail said, hopefully that's not changing too much where they effect that international edge they seemingly have in developer relationships.

I'm going to miss that logo but I'm glad Shu still remains at his position.
Also hopefully this means PlayStation's firmware team will based in the US now. This could be the start of PSN 2.0

Well, R.I.P SCE, you had a good run. I look forward to forgetting their new name and just resorting to calling everything PlayStation... again.

Now that Layden is in charge, I hope he doesn't change the tradition of giving creative freedom to studio and not cancel TLG!

I hope this is true. Sony moving their SW guys to NA is sorely needed.

But SNEI, who manages PSN and it's related services is already based in NA (San Mateo, CA). Heck, the responsibles for the crappy security that led to the 2011 hacks were probably them.

People Will still call it SCE. Who says SEN instead of PSN ? No one.
The SEN brand was already phased out last year in favor of Playstation Network.

you can't put a price on sparks
SCE always just reminded me of Southern California Edison.

I will Definitely miss that logo at the start of my fav games.
"Sony Computer Entertainment presents"
so many memories, man...
Uncharted 4: SCE's End
This will be the last Sony game with the SCE logo on it.
One more reason to keep this one in your collection forever.
The Kind is Dead, Long Live the King!

Uncharted 4 is after the name change. Last title should be Alienation. Uncharted 4 will be the first title to use Sony Interactive Entertainment presents.

He was in charge for localizing SCEJ games to NA/EU I think?

I know but I will keep my expectation in check to prevent hercules disappointment :D

I think he did that too, probably before becoming the head of SCEJ, he basically did Jack's job but in Japan at point in the PS3 era.

Or something close to it, VP or whatever, I'm surprised SonyGAF hasn't added to anything yet.

Damn, I didn't think about this. I LOVE seeing that sentence as the intro. It meant that I was jumping into a great game.

More evidence Of Sony long term moving to service models across the board.

Still, feels like they are finally trying to get their ducks in a row.

Also, this may be a sign that the firmware and PSN development is moving from japan, so thats good.

Yeah thank God, psn has made amazing progress, can only get better.
