Here it is :) any recommendations on cleaning it?

Sounds basic, but give yourself plenty of time.
The best (most thorough) way to remove the deepest crud will involve disassembling the console and getting the plastic parts wet. Be methodical in how you store and document the screws and pieces, as you will want to leave these undisturbed and easy to trace backwards until your washed parts dry out (I let everything rest overnight). A toothbrush is very handy around hard to reach places, like the ribbed vents. Besides soapy water, you can also use good automotive plastic interior products (e.g. Einszett Cockpit Premium).
Be extremely careful around any silk screened logos and painted surfaces.

Final bit of advice: look for a youtube teardown before you begin, to give you a good idea of what to expect.

Went to Super Sunday in my town which is sort of a flea Market and picked up a box with 2 Atari 2600 systems 17 games, playstation 1 controller and this guy buried on the bottom, all for $35. Fired right up when I tested it.

Holy F that Centy find!

So I decided that my Final Fight CD experience required my HSS-0130, and opted to make a Neo Geo padhack box to do the trick. Anyone interested in using a Neo Geo stick of any kind on your Genesis, this should work for you.

Note: The Neo Geo controller will only really work with the 3 button pad, or I guess you could get four button control if you padhacked a 6 button one. I can't think of anything I really NEED the 6 button for on Genesis, so this works out okay for me.

First you need a DB15 connector. Wire it up:

It's a good idea to label the wires now. Base them on this diagram:

db15_engadget_howto_zps5fed1092.jpg

You don't need a wire at either of the D, Select, or Unused spots. Note that this is looking at the solder side of the port. If you need to double check the numbers, they're actually printed on the plastic next to each pin on the non-solder side.

Here's the 3 button pad. This is one of the older boards. I've seen a few variations on it. Solder a wire to each of the contacts shown.

Connect things up.

I put gaffer's tape over my connections when done, so that nothing will short.

Then I got a $6 project box from Radioshack, cut holes, and installed everything.

Works great! So much better feeling than the 3 button pads.

Thank you for the information.

Can anyone tell me how much a boxed Mega Drive II is worth?

Pal console in almost mint condition with two pads.

Box is in ok condition (wear and tear of 20 years, but it closes, only damage is around the corners of it), all the papers are in it (instructions and all that stuff).

5 games: Phantasy Star II, The Terminator, Outlander, Taz and boxed copy of Asterix (bundled with console).

Reposting my question. Here's two pictures of the set: http://imgur.com/a/qVW12

A Megadrive 2 with all cables, two controllers and a (shitty) game? I'd say 40 to 50€. Boxes are worthless to me.
[edit] wait, with 4 other common games, I'd add 20€ more. So 60€.

I had the OG genesis and the V2 Sega CD. Funny story how I got the latter. I was living in Nevada and I hit a jackpot on a nickel video poker, which paid me $250. I then convinced someone to give me a ride to Reno to go buy the Sega CD.

I remember waiting forever for Mortal Kombat Sega CD edition, which everyone thought was going to be so ultimate. Then we were all so depressed because the loading times killed it.

Then I waited forever for NHL 94 CD. That game became the only reason SCD wasn't a complete bust for me. Pretty awesome moment to see that full screen intro video, as grainy as it was... because until then, I had only seen FMV in smaller windowed modes on other games. Of course, in the end, once the game started the only difference was you had a CDDA track of crowd noise during play. Still though, it was Sega CD's best moment.

I can hardly remember what else I had other than Sewer Shark. Chuck Rock CD was one... but that game did nothing but add CDDA audio tracks to the original game.

Awesome story; coincidentally I was just playing NHL 94 on my Sega CD the other day: Flames (my team) vs Leafs (my wife's team). Love the stilted opening commentary to the games (harnessing dat CD POWER)

I can't even find an appropriate reaction/congratulatory gif. Great find! Congrats!

I suppose I'll just go with the same reaction GIF I used when I learned GAFfer Seven Force (I think) found Earthbound at a Goodwill for $0.25 a few years ago:

Dang! Cool find!
Reading a review of that game on Sega16, it seems really fun. I think a Zelda clone from 20 years ago is really interesting.

Holy crap Gaf, I plugged in my 32x into my cdx since getting a PVM and using scart. Horrible buzzing. Could it be the stock cable? Should I get one from the ebay cable lady?

Again, so glad I picked up Centy right before it shot up in price. That $50 feels so good although I'd kill to get it for $35 with all that other stuff.

On a side note, anyone else notice Robo Aleste is shooting up in price just recently on sold listings. Last few have been $70 plus with only the last one at $56.

^yup, and Robo Aleste sits at the very top of my Sega-CD wants pile, so of course i just missed it for $35 last week on Sega-16 by a matter of an hour or two =/

Is that the Mega-CD Japanese version of the game? I remember renting the US Sega-CD one when it released and really hating the harsh difficulty compared to MUSHA.

JP MCD version is called Dennin Aleste. Much cheaper last I checked.
Is it considered easier than the US counterpart? I seem to recall reading that it suffered like many late Japanese releases by localization folks deciding that US players are gods at gaming and their versions demanded ridiculous increases in difficulty, like Contra Hard Corps and Streets of Rage 3 ended up. I never made it far in the US CD Aleste.

I would say if you are looking for a deal on a few of these Sega CD games, keep your eyes on Amazon. I got Robo Aleste and Lords of Thunder in pretty good condition for around $30 each. Robo was complete and Lords of Thunder was missing the manual but I found a complete case minus the game for an ok price so I'm prolly gonna buy that.

Amazon is cool but a lot of the times the seller doesn't bother putting up pics

That is the downside and why I usually don't jump on listings that are vague, I did take a shot on Robo Aleste as it was from one of those Buybacks stores and got it complete and was a bit surprised.

for real, deals like that Centy happening in 2014 give the rest of us hope - congrats man!

Yeah, as I was digging in the box, the guy had a sign that said $45 but when he walked over he said, "you can have the whole box for $35, both Atari systems are missing cables and I believe there is a Sega game in there". Game hunting on the east coast is a joke, usually everything is picked over and any Good Will around me has nothing or it seems they're checking Ebay prices before they put anything out. When I got home I emptied the box out and my wife saw ET which is in really good shape. She picked it up and said, "this has to be worth some money." It's nice that she tries to show an interest in my hobby.

Such a nice score.

I had this picture leftover from when I moved into my dorm 3 weeks ago.

Pay no attention to anything besides the Sega with games.

I love my Sega. I have had it since I was a kid. It was indeed my first console.

I have nearly every single sonic game that came out on it, a few mortal kombat games, and thats about it.

How do you take your games out?

BY FAR, my favorite Genesis games were:

Starflight (one of the first open-universe space exploration games)

Herzog Zwei (one of the first console RTS games)

Pretty stoked, picked up Sonic 2 an ac adapter and a controller. Can't wait to take it home and hook it up to my CRT. Nothing beats playing the real game with the real controller. It had been years since I had done so. Never owned or beat Sonic 2, finally own it, gonna try and beat it for the next few days.
