Totally agree, whoever said that is an idiot, especially the exclusives part, I really hate those.

No that's just stupid. If they released VC3 exclusive to Zune HD would you run out and buy one? Remember, the whole reason they move franchises around platforms is because they want to make more money, think carefully before defending that.

You're missing the point. Why do you think people "have it in" for handhelds? It's really not just blind fanboyism (well I dunno, it probably is for some people) but for me at least it's about preference, not bias. I don't really get that much time for gaming these days, so when I do game I want the big screen, the HD graphics, the sound system, the immersive experience. I appreciate that's almost demonized these days (graphics whore!!!) but I really don't give a shit, it's what I like and what I want to spend my time with, not hunched over a tiny screen with awful controls. Don't paint everyone with the same brush.
I actually would, as I'm fairly well known for buying systems when an installment of a series I like shows up on it, but I appreciate that not everyone will do that.

And bias is preference, so I don't know where you're going there. I can appreciate people like to have certain conditions met, and everyone's conditions are different, naturally, but if you're only interested in games that meet your specific conditions and ignore anything outside of those, that is pretty much the definition of "fair-weather".

To make my position very clear, if you saw the release of VC2 and went, "Dang, I really hate portables/can't afford a PSP, too bad I am missing out on a good game", then, well, that's different from how I do things but that's fine. But if you saw the release of VC2 and went "VC2 is not exactly the game/system I wanted, VC2 SUCKS AND SEGA ARE RETARDED", then yes, I will absolutely question whether or not you actually care about VC past it being a PS3 game.

I really hope its for the DS or the PSP. Handheld > Console for me when it comes to SRPGs.

I wouldn't mind 3DS, but i won't have that one soon, so I rather have it with a system i already have.

That is if its a VC3...

Not that I'm arguing with you about your main point, but you sound like somebody who hasn't been burned by a beloved RPG series oversimplifying its gameplay when it moved from consoles to handheld, becoming a game that would be unattractive to play even in HD on a nice tv. This happened to me with Suikoden Tierkreis.

Its kind of similar to what PC lovers think about a series going to consoles. In theory, there is nothing about this change that would make the game 'worse', but the prevailing tastes of the console market may prompt the developer to 'dumb things down', so to speak. Same thing with consoles to handhelds. The problem isn't necessarily that it is released on a handheld, but that it was designed for a handheld.

I'm not trying to accuse Sega of doing that with Valkyria Chronicles, though. I haven't played VC2 yet, and its only because I don't have the money to buy a PSP. There's probably plenty of game series whose portable iterations are just as good as the console ones, the PSP certainly has less technical limitations than the DS, and VC2 could even improve on VC. But after buying a DS because I was a huge Suikoden fan and getting burned by the move to a portable, I can understand any suspiciousness towards a series going console -> portable.

Blaming portables for that is kind of silly, though. Suikoden Tierkreis, for however much it cut back from Suikoden 5, was still a more fully-featured game than, say, Final Fantasy XIII. Dragon Quest 9 has so much more in it than Dragon Quest 8 it's ridiculous.

Have I been burned before? Yeah, I have. Amusingly, it wasn't from a move to portables, but rather a move to bigger, prettier, more cinematic that killed one of my beloved RPG series.

Now, as to VC2. Does the lowered tech hinder the game? Large maps had to be separated into smaller pieces, and I think that's a step down. You can't savescum your way through maps anymore either, which is a curious choice but certainly not the fault of being on a portable. But it's still a wonderful game and it deserves better than being treated like trash and a regrettable mistake.

Well I guess we're in agreement then.

Is it wrong that I want some sort of multiplayer for that? Just imagine how epic some sort of reimagining of the Chromehounds multiplayer persistent structure would be.

Valkyria Chronicles: Selvaria's Chronicles

I'd buy it.

That's the Selvaria DLC

I hope that this game is released on the 3DS to spite all the people who complained about VCII on PSP.

Edit: Although I would love to play a Valkyria Chronicles game from the ground up that stars the "villains" of the first game, the Empire.

Take this as you will

Introduced today on VC's JPN blog as Homer's older sister (mentioned last week as being a trainer in the armed forces i think). Don't know who the other one is.

Names are Leila and Alfons

New chars for the next installment maybe?

I hope they get Raita back for VC3, the VC2 character designs and overall art looks terrible in comparison to VC1.

first one looked great, if it comes out for 360 i'll be able to play it!

i also can't believe children are still into platform exclusivity :lol

VC is a Japanese niche series, so don't be surprised if it's only for one platform like the first two.

I think there's potential for it being multiplatform. No reason not to really. Not like End of Eternity was some huge game either.

Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck.
I've been holding off on VC2 because I heard it's stupid and poopy with all the grinding, animeness, etc.

But if there's a fucking VC3 coming I'll need to get VC2 (and the requisite PSP...) before then.

No it isn't, VC2 a great game with some flaws.

btw, for anyone that cares, Leila has the personality of an S&M queen mixed a bit with Edy's personality.

edit: btw, the Alfons' uniform...that wasn't the empire's uni was it? If not, Spec Ops or something?

So basically it is a mix of sick (S&M) and win (Edy's personality).

Anisette in VC2 is awesome, she is like Edy v2 with more heart.

VC2's plot is so-so, and the characters are a mixed bag. There are some characters that are great, and others that are trash; the worst being the lead character (although the secondary male lead is good).

The certificate system can be total frustration. And If you want to "100%" everything, it will take a long time.

But other aspects of the gameplay itself is better than the first, imo, with a larger variety of classes and tank builds. Allows for more flexibility in strategy.

Disclaimer: I'm currently ~halfway through (in June) VC2's main plot.

You think this time we'd be dealing with the Federation, rather than the empire? They certainly have been trying to undermine Gallia in both games, and its time to teach them a lesson.

* move away from the anime BS instead of towards it. VC has a great WW2-inspired setting; start using it properly and bring in multiple competing factions (the brief appearance of the NA/Western Europe stand-in in VC1 doesn't count), more moral ambiguity, and less magic stuff. Make the characters less trope-ish.
I'm probably the fourth or fifth person to second this, but I have the feeling that they're actually moving in the opposite direction. Which makes me sad.

Looks SEGA doesn't get what brought fans like me to VC in the first place (or doesn't care).

Not a good first impression...

I wonder if they'll put airships in VC3. It was mentioned in the newspapers that you can get in VC2 that they exist (something about how the army cant seem to make them properly, i think. But the country to the south has em and in service)
