Yep, I think they literally threw that together with a tiny budget just to get something there. I'm sure the final voice recording will begin sometime later in development.

I found it a bit annoying that Sony announced it on their stage and didn't even fund the game. Announcing a kickstarter is pretty low, in my opinion.

What other Kickstarter got 10x its funding goal from some mysterious third party? Why even bother with Kickstarter if you are willing to devote 18 million to a project? That hardly even minimizes the risk.

There's a PC version of SFV despite Sony footing the bill, so it's not as if it's without precedent.
Amplitude is a Sony IP, so they obviously have complete control of which platforms the game releases on.

I don't think I've ever been so emotionally excited about a video game ever in my life. I was a sega kid from day one. We got the Sega Master System instead of the NES and never looked back. I grew up playing Yu Suzuki's games. Not occasionally in the arcades, but every day, at home.
For years, I'd watch people lose their shit over stuff like Twilight Princess or whatever, and I'd feel little to nothing.
Today is my day. I cannot believe Shenmue 3 is finally happening. This has to be the happiest moment in any Sega fan's last 10 years. It's finally back.

Didn't they also mention how the creator had the full control of the game? I think that's what's most important, specially in Shenmue's case.
IIRC, Shenmue 2 actually starts from chapter 3? I think Chapter 2 is his journey on the boat or his travels to the places in pt 2. I think Shenmue 3 can be multiple chapters. I just hope that we have the same attention to detail that 1 had.
It proves to investors that there is interest and them hitting a million so fast, I think shows there's interest.

FFVII convinced a friend of mine that he's getting a PS4. Shenmue 3 I'd buy on a toaster, or 3DS. So it actually becoming a PS4 game a system I own, just makes me love the event even more.
Very impressive core oriented E3 from Sony.

Shenmue 3 isn't supposed to come out until 2017. Sega has Shenmue I and 2 HD waiting in the wings. I'm willing to bet they will release before Shenmue III.
Fuck me I can't believe I can honestly talk about Shenmue III with a release date.

I'm an early bird from Europe on my way to work. First thing I'll do when arriving at work is funding the shit out of it!!
Sega are surely led by fools if they do not make Shenmue 1 and 2 ports for at least PS4. Ideally at least 1080 (even Okami was downscaled from 4K on PS3) but at least SD ports of the originals. They have some time to get it all done too if this is 2017. Let's see what they do.

I also agree BUT I have to say that was really sort of well...almost as bad in the opposite direction for some reason. The entire thing was a bit cringy.

Uhm. Fundraising is one thing but dude they don't sell well. I mean you have to figure out how to do them and make actual money. Though they are my favorite series of games they also don't hold up well at all in various gameplay aspects that I would rather see them fix in 3 then go back and ramrod into 1 and 2.

Yea, sorry, but this IS the end of the world and we will all be dead shortly. Nintendo released Earthbound Beginnings, meaning Mother 3 can't be far off, and then these Megatons were dropped. E3, so far, has been absolutely crazy. I can only hope that Nintendo and Square have more secrets up their sleeves for tomorrow!
