Shinji Mikami's THE EVIL WITHIN |OT| Where's everyone going? Tango?

So I'm getting towards the end but from chapter 7 and onward.

I literally had to stop after chapter 10. Too much is sometimes too much.

Can't wait to read your review, man. I'm itching for more impressions!

Okay, I finished chapter 2 after 70 minutes. My quick impressions:

- Holy crap, this game is hard. I already died 10 times, lol. (medium difficulty)
- The visuals are great (yeah some bad textures) and very atmospheric overall
- Didn't notice any slowdowns so far (Xbox One)
- Short loading times after each death (10-12 seconds)
- Controls are fine
- Headshots are as satisfiying as they were in RE 4
- RE 4? Yes, chapter 2 (and now 3) feels like RE 4.5 with stealth mechanics
- Cutscenes aren't impressive though (visually)
- Main charcter looks great, the other ones...not so much. But I don't care because...

this game is fuckin' awesome so far.

Going into Chapter 3 without health items, 3 shots for my pistol and...nothing else. Wish me luck ^^

So you start a new chapter with what you finished the previous chapter with? Nice. All signs point to me loving this.

Really liking it so far. Lots of tension, makes RE4 seem amateurish in that regard (and that is one of my fav games of all time). The graphics are a mixed bag. Good in some places, bland in others. it really comes down to the lighting and art direction.

Now,two things are bothering me.

1. Those bars.Lord, those bars are huge. they almost take up half of the screen. I will get used to them, like I did in Dragon's Dogma, but it takes time. Doesn't feel like it augments the FOV, just makes everything seem claustrophobic which, for all instances and purposes, fits in the game nicely.Would have prefered to play without them but one can get used to them.

2. Pop-in. This was extremely noticeable in the cutscene after chp.1. Everytime the camera switched shots you could see textures popping in. In game it doesn't seem to be a problem, which is weird.

There were a couple of fps drops but nothing severe,so for now I can't complain. Died twice, loading averaged around 10secs,nothing to be bothered about.

Loving everything else so far. The game is tense, atmospheric and seems a true successor to REmake.
Currently on ch.2 (so it's still early to pass definite judgment on the game, but sounds extremely promising)

Ps4 version with stock hard drive here.

Can anybody with the game answer how the it compares to Manhunt, The Thing and to the original Alone in the Dark. I realize it's a weird question but Manhunt had a large level of inherent tension in the game plus there is a stealth aspect. As far as AitD it had an HP Lovecraft vibe/influence. I get that vibe from this.

Those 2 games along with RE4 and The Thing are my four favorite horror games. Any comparisons to any of these (well, except RE4, lol) would be helpful. Thank you guys.

I think this game is pretty mediocre

Now i'm only a hour in but so far

Pros:
Good atmosphere and music
Controls pretty well

Cons:
Shit AI, can see you from across the map
Too hard, game doesnt give you enough resources to succeed
Shooting isn't satisfying, camera is far too zoomed in

I'll keep playing but i can see this getting middling reviews
Also in before 'get better at games newb'

get better at games newb!

Game is challenging at Medium and there are times where you have to abuse the AI. Also the Boss at the end of Chapter 5 is bullshit if you don't have enough Ammo.

But nothing is impossible in this game! I always mastered every situation, but there were many times when I was sweating like crazy. :)

Aside from the AI, your cons are more than likely to be pros for those that are into the survival horror genre.

I envy all of you that can play it right now or tomorrow. I'll Have to wait until Friday :( Ugh!

A lot of people said Alien was too hard, too.

It wasn't, and I doubt this is either.

consider buying it from the US psn store if your internet connection is ok. I was in the same situation as you and did just that, it's even cheaper!

Sadly the psn uk store does not accept german credit cards. Im pretty sure the us psn store is the same way.

What difficulty are you playing on? If you're starting on survivor and finding it too hard you can always bump down the difficulty to the one that gives you more supplies.

It's not been that hard at all on normal. Tense and sometimes, oh crap what am I going to do now moments, but the game almost always gives you a way to fight what it throws at you. I've had a few moments, but were not talking dark souls here.

Your cons are actually pros for me.

Hard survival games aren't for everybody.
