Is there switch version sub720p? Looks shimmery and pixelated on my switch 2
I was going to post about that. WTF the Switch 2 demo looks ass. It is probably the Switch version. It can look that bad; it's very pixelated and the resolution is low. I tried the PS5 version, and it looks way better.

End the day you aren't going to please everyone, just like not all the Streets of Rage fans were happy with part 4, but with a dormant franchise like this, you needed trusted hands to bring it back, and you could do worse than those who put Streets of Rage back on the map, after the mediocre Streets of Rage 3...

I guess since Ninja Gaiden ragebound is 30fps, maybe the switch version of Shinobi need to downgrade to sub 720p to hit 60fps.

Am I the only one who isn't feeling this game? I know a lot has changed since the last 2D Shinobi game, but it just doesn't have the feel of the Genesis games to me. Glad everyone else is enjoying it though.

Gott ask though, what exactly is that shopkeeper supposed to be?

I was between this and NG: Ragebound and i am getting this one. Love the art style and the gameplay is fun. This game for some reason reminds me of an old game called Shank. Loved those games.

Demo is sick as hell. The art is 10/10 off the charts. I love the execution chaining as a bit of a callback to Shinobi PS2. I love how you have to enter ninja stance to access additional moves, almost like a light nod to fighting games. Being able to reposition with dodge right after attack for a side flip is super badass.

Finished the demo. Its great. I have a long way to go before I'm bouncing off everyone, keeping them all weakened, then doing the multi-enemy executions.

And yeah I'm glad I got the Deluxe Edition. The art is insane and I wouldn't mind an art book.

i am glad i bought Sega Genesis Classics before it got delisted , my favourite Shinobi game of all time is still Revenge of the Shinobi

i will pick up Sega Ages Shinobi on Switch once there is a sale again

I tried the demo on ps4 and i could be buying the deluxe edition

Really diggin the gameplay in the demo. More than Ninja Gaiden. NG is solid but Shinobi gameplay is just that much better.

Shinobi- Why is yet another great game releasing without a Switch 2 version?

Switch 2 owners are already getting shafted. Ragebound, 30 fps. Devs didnt think to include an unlocked fps option.

So many games releasing at suboptimal resolutions too because who knows, dev kits? Either way it sucks and shouldnt be the case.

Shinoni looks like crap compared to Switch Oled ive tested both versions. Fuck this shit. Where are the Switch 2 upgrades for all these Nintendo games too?

Console gaming sucks these days because they all do the bare minimum effort thinking sales will be fine anyway and console gamers don't push back outside formums like this and reddit.

We buy these expensive new systems and have to grovel, hoping the new hardware will be updated in order to run games better

The art style can be opinable at times, but this is all hand animated which is the polar opposite of flash.

Something "flash-animated" would be Salt and Sanctuary, which relies on rotation and modifications of sprites, more than actual different sprites for every animation frame.
It's got the flash look and the demo isn't great either.

Typical lizardcube overrated fluff

Wrapped up the demo. It's great and I think makes a better first impression than Ninja Gaiden Ragebound. The combat is weightier and you can combo with juggles, dashes, dives, and other abilities to do really cool shit. There's variety here with how you can approach fights. It's more complex than I was expecting, but in a good way.

The thing that surprised me the most though is the actual movement and platforming. It's smooth and precise and feels really satisfying even outside of combat when you're doing the challenges (spike and grapple hook areas in the demo).

I played the demo and really enjoyed it.
If you're looking to deal more damage, you can reduce enemy health in options to 50%.
To give you more of that original feel.

Tried the demo ... the game felt more like Hollow Knight than Shinobi ! Hype is reduced , all i want right now another Metroidvania

Ragebound is what you want if you want to one hit kill enemies and bounce through stages. Its really good as well. But I am happy Shinobi takes a different approach. They release relatively close to eachother.

I liked the art and the health bars. I'm just hoping there's a lot more variety to the enemy encounters besides small guy and big guy. lol Combat felt fine. I was getting into it for a while. It was fun hitting that air strike kick. You can feel there's some potential with combos like SoR had. It reminds me something that would have come out on the DS. I got it preordered on Switch.

I'm playing on my Switch 1 and it looks beautiful on an OLED screen.

Okay after playing Ragebound I'm now super hyped about any game like Ragebound and now want this day 1.
If You Say So Shrug GIF

No.
Probably people are screaming over this and how great it looks.
Cool though, but this is not Shinobi at all. Its more like a try hard cool looking brawler. Its ok if people like to smash combos and incoherent mechanics, but this has nothing to do with what Shinobi is. Its like making a kart racing game and say thats a Shinobi game.

I think this new Shinobi game as a character action game.

Based on the demo I wish it had a more refined and clear vision with its mechanics.

I will give the demo another chance and see what I think about it.

And I totally think theres no problem in that. But the people behind it probably lost focus and got way too excited over the sucess of SoR4 when created this game.

As I understand it there were several different teams developing SoR4 or they split up into several teams after SoR4. When you go to the Steam page of SoR4 you can see there is three developers listed for the game: Dotemu, Guard Crush and Lizardcube.

If you haven't yet I'd recommend checking out Guard Crush's upcoming game Absolum. I played the demo in this summer's Next Fest quite extensively and can vouch it plays very much like SoR4 but the mechanics are even more evolved. Also it is a roguelite which can rub SoR fans the wrong way.

I don't know but it would seem to me that at least the graphic department from SoR4 went to do Shinobi but maybe the gameplay side went to do Absolum? That would make sense to me based on what I've played and have seen.

Dudes. I talked shit on the art in this game and honestly, it looks gorgeous in motion. I stand corrected!

More importantly, this demo is fucking REALLY good. The game just feels super good and the level design is great. I can't say if it's "real Shinobi" as I never really played those but what this game is doing is polished as fuck. Everything feels fun and looks killer. The execution move and super move (Ninjutsu??) look SO cool. Music is great, sound design is juicy.

Easy 9/10 for the demo alone so far. Big thumbs up.

Is this game basically the "Resident Evil 4" of the Shinobi franchise?

Meaning I can understand why people balk at the changes to the series but when the game is this fun it doesn't bother me.

See also Donkey Kong Bananza.

I 100% the stage. It seems there is one part of the map that stays a bit incomplete. The rift is quite hard, but for the wall jump dashes you need to wait a bit with jumping since he auto climbs up a bit. When I got that timing down it wasn't that bad.

I like how enemies seemingly stay in execution state forever. You can leave them alone, get another one in that state and then to chain executions.

Shinobi were sort of methodical platform games with enemies that died in 1 or 2 hits. You were mostly throwing shuriken and doing platforms.

3 went more action oriented with a bigger toolset such as running, slashing, wall jumps and dive kicks. But it was almost completely linear, less challenging level design than Revenge. Both games are in my top 10 of all time though.

This new one goes full beat em up, while maintaining platform gameplay but with air dashes etc. Its a modern take, but still 2D.

If the demo is anything to go by, I don't think this is really a Metroidvania. Its progression is closer to something like Viewtiful Joe. There are still separate stages, but the stages have a few interesting wrinkles and treasures tucked away if you know where to look.

There's even an Arcade Mode where you can play just for better scores/ranks, something that wouldn't work in Metroid.

This game is amazing.

Do people actually just want the same old Shinobi gameplay and mechanics but with modern graphics? If so, some of you guys are fuckin insane.

Shinobi 3 is the best 2D action game ever made so it's not unreasonable to want more of that.

This new one is mighty fine on its own, anyway, as different as it may be.

Yeah, it's absolutely unreasonable to expect a game developed in 2025 to have the same gameplay and mechanics as a 32 year old game.

The game is not being released in a vacuum. It has competition. It's going up against other modern 2D action games. Today's gamers, especially young/modern gamers who are accustomed to modern game mechanics and style will expect the same from any game.

I'm sold on this game. Haven't played any older ones - just need to try out the demo on Steam Deck before deciding to get it there or PS5.

Already bought NG Ragebound on Steam so this'll probably follow suit.

This new one goes full beat em up
This take does not line up 1:1 with this footage:

Either TheDuskwalker TheDuskwalker is playing completely differently than others in this thread, or he is playing it the correct way and everyone else is playing it as a regular beat em up.

I need answers, because from footage I see 1-hit kunai kills along with what looks like a 'charge/kill' system that instakills larger enemies, which is something very close to Shinobi PS2.

Yeah, in the demo level kunai 1 hits the weakest enemy (white ninja), and kunai and heavy attacks do a lot of execution gauge build up below enemies health bars. 2 kunais put most enemies into execution state, I just added extra hits for combo build up since I was unsure how much it adds to your results score. Also had the gear equipped that buffed damage once you reach 15 combo.
