lol I would wear that shirt....but only ironically
Oh man that's an onion-esque headlineThe shirt is ugly as hell but The Verge's article title is fucking stupid. It's just a fucking shirt.
"I don't care if you landed a spacecraft on a comet, your shirt is sexist and ostracizing"
I think the overall issue isn't that it is offensive and people are outwardly offended but but that this is the sort of subtle sexism that creates an air of hostility for women in STEM fields. Typically work dress code is enforced for this reason. Anyway, absolutely he should be called out for it and he should apologize so that he understands.

made in america too
I believe he was going for Heavy Metal: The Shirt. Not, unaware dork.
Goddamn people need to lighten up. Why can't he express some zaniness? His shirt is fun in that subversively over-the-top way.
I really, really wish he hadn't apologized.
He had too, otherwise he would be hounded to the end of his days. They bully till they get what they want.
He already apologized.
It's in the OP.
Man, what happened The Verge?

The Verge has reached out to the ESA, but has yet to hear back.

Man, I'm kinda oissed he had to apologize for that. Shirt was amazingly weird and I commended him for having the balls to wear it.
You think it will stop now that he apologized?
It would have blown over in a day or two regardless, like this stuff always does. Why people feel they need to apologize for doing nothing wrong is forever beyond me.He had too, otherwise he would be hounded to the end of his days. They bully till they get what they want.
I'm just glad we get this great "shirtstorm" label for it instead of some uninspired "shirtgate" bullshit.
These kind of reactions are more embarrassing than the shirt. The shirt is ugly as hell but The Verge's article title is fucking stupid. It's just a fucking shirt.

bollox, it's a fun shirt that probably fits his personality.
That's fine but it only propagates the appearance that STEM fields are boys clubs. While amusing, this shirt wouldn't be acceptable in any other work environment.
Wearing a shirt like that, he was asking to get harassed.

I'm not entirely sure why, it's a shirt.
But one of the things people like about tech and science jobs is that the culture (including dress code) is very lax. So while enforcing dress code for, say, things that are broadcast live for a wide audience makes sense, if the dude wanted to wear that shirt on a normal work day I feel like he should be able to without it being taken as a slight against the entire female population.

This article can't be serious, lol. I know it is, but this is so overblown. The Article said:These are the women who forged on despite the fact that they were told by elementary school classmates and the media at large that girls who like science are nerdy and unattractive. This is the climate women who dream of working at NASA or the ESA come up against, every single day. This shirt is representative of all of that, and the ESA has yet to issue a statement or apologize for that.

Custom Made by a WOMAN too.
it doesn't propagate anything unless he or its creator says it does. you're projecting.

It's fine not to have dress codes, but then it's on the individual to know to appropriately dress oneself, which he failed at. The problem with the shirt is that it is demeaning, it's not just construed that way. It was very purposely made because "ass and titties, fuck yeah!" The argument then becomes, "well he didn't intend to make anyone uncomfortable" in which the appropriate solution is he should have it brought to his attention then like a small child who doesn't know any better made to apologize.
Agreed. Boneheaded decision to wear that.

Worn by someone in a field where women struggle to be taken as seriously as men. It's not as big a fiasco as people are making it out to be, but it still sends a bad message.
