He's a clear #2 on the team behind Josi. Defensively he has lost a step and will continue to decline. Definitely lower in value than a prime Subban.
 
Either Subban low-key demanded a trade to keep his value high in respect to the Canadians or he's a locker room cancer. I'm curious to see what the justifications are in the press conference.

This is such a dumb trade that it's pretty hard to find a baseball comparable quite like it.

It's like the Albert Pujols signing in a lot of ways (so really it's even worse. Wacha at the time was just a compensation pick for the signing, this is more like the Angels trading Wacha today for Pujols and his contract). But even this is a terrible comp.

There really is no good comp. This is just a really bad, stupid, trade.
 
The more I let this sink in and enjoy it, the more I feel this was in response to PK's criticism of the organization earlier this month.

Do Ovechkin and Jagr get booed every arena they go just for touching the puck? Of course they don't. I remember in 2015 watching a Habs road game with my sister and she was puzzled why he was getting booed. The excuse that he gets booed because he's good is so underhandedly bankrupt, that it is vomit inducing. The dirtiest fucking players in the league don't get booed the way Subban does.

It sounds to me, they didn't trust PK. I don't think PK Subban wanted to leave Montreal. He loved Montreal. He was bigger than life here, a true gentleman, I will miss him dearly.
 
For the first time in my life, as a Leafs fan I feel bad for Habs fans. PK always seemed liked a great athlete and an even better person off the ice.

Although this does make it easier for the Leafs now in the years to come so thank you :)

I'm not saying there are not racist people in the world. I'm saying I do not think his skin color was a factor in the trade. And great players get booed in other buildings all the time and so do hated players. In Subbans case I am sure he gets booed by racist but lots of white players get booed in every rink other than home.

Montreal gave Subban away for a fucking song.

And I don't care what anybody says, Canadiens ADMIT they hated PK by trading him for an older declining defenseman with an albatross contract. Where is the upside for the Canadiens here?

As a Habs fan since 1986, this kind of the same story. We trade some of our best players, loved by the fans.

I guess this means Subban and the Preds are going to win a cup soon?
 
Superficial view of the trade. Weber has a cap recapture penalty that is gonna mess the Habs up. This isn't simply a player for player trade.

I've never seen one player give away and lose the puck so much. The man can skate, but often falls and loses the puck in key moments in games.

It's a good trade for both.
 
Man I like Subban the character, the person. But not the hockey player.

One hell of a hockey player, but plays selfishly sometimes.

I don't dislike this trade, at all.

The situation that was brewing between PK and the Habs was so weird. He genuinely comes across as an awesome person, so I have a hard time believing he's a locker room cancer or whatever.

Edmonton can easily weather their shitty trade. Montreal is going to have to eat this shit for years and years. Montreal acquired a contract for Weber covering his 31-40 years(through 2026!!!) and Nashville acquired a contract for Subban covering his 27-33 years. Weber's underlying stats are bad and have been getting worse and he has some very hard years on his body playing in the Central.

It's an uneven trade today. A bad trade next year. And in 2-3 years it's going to really be one of the worst trades. The horrible irony is that by that point Bergevin and Therrien are going to be gone.

There's no way around this, it's a very bad trade.

Yeah this isn't even remotely up for debate. The point production is what's close to even. Defensively, Subban is demonstrably better than Weber.

Much better goal scorer? Lol. Okay then.

Subban is a dynamic goal scorer on D. Weber has a hard slap shot. It's hard as hell, sure. But it's still not really comparable to Subban's scoring skill.
