And your being a bitch.... I may get banned for it but you and others really, really are....and I am not even overweight tyvm, but many people in my family struggle with it.

If people said the same things about the poor or homeless they would be banned.....but on gaf its ok to be a bigoted pig as long as its against a group of people who its popular to rag on.

Of course they should have the right to do so. Personally I think that's a stupid business move but it should be up to a business to decide that.

Now, what I wouldn't want to see is the GOVERNMENT involved in that decision in any fashion.

Most of them tend to be religious, by them I mean poor fat people, you could simply remind them that gluttony is a sin. Tell them if they eat that fried chicken their going to hell.

Ha, we should order them to get an ultrasound of their stomach and heart like with the abortion bill where the doctor has to describe the damage they are doing to their body

Non-smokers don't get the cigarette tax waived if they buy a pack once in a great while to smoke socially. It's either a vice for everyone, or it isn't.

I disagree with the cigarette tax as well.

I think this should be handled through health insurance premiums and whatnot, but the health care industry is disgusting and I wouldn't trust them to handle this properly at all. It's a tough thing to judge, but something needs to be done.

Almost similar to how pubs/bars aren't supposed to serve intoxicated customers.

This was my thought as well, and I had a similar thought when I was trying to buy a metro card and someone ahead of me spent like ten minutes buying eighty dollars worth of lottery tickets and scratch offs. Judging by the sale, they're most likely a gambling addict, so the store should just be like a bar and cut them off.

Also, as someone who was obese for most of his life, and still has about 40 pounds to lose to be at the weight he wants... Obesity is completely self inflicted.

I like these threads. Let's me know who's posts I will actually respect in the future.

How about we have a doctor in the entrance give a once over check up before entering said establishment? I can guarantee all sorts of people will be denied, it's not just weight that determines your health.

I've never been overweight myself. I CAN imagine, however, the extra unneeded pain some overweight people must feel because of ignorant people acting like they do.

No need for a fat ban. Just excise tax the shit out of the food. No one (fat, skinny, old, poor, young) should be eating fast food garbage day in and day out.

Boggles my mind how people have such problems with those who are obese.

Bothers me when people say stuff like this. You are not the standard of every obese person. Your obesity was self-inflected and while many people may share your story and circumstance and means to an end, not everyone is like you. Some people are obese for entirely different reasons than you are, reasons that you don't understand and haven't had to deal with.

Some really fucking stupid responses in here. Obesety is not always a choice, people.

What the fuck is wrong with GAF and fat people that brings the worst out of this forum anyway?

People never being in a position trying to tell other people how easy it is to like them without ever having experienced something themselves.

Longish story, read if you want.

So i've been big pretty much my whole life. Being bigger in school scars you for life, you get bullied, name called, mocked, beat up, socially ostracized, pick up worse habits and no one really gives a shit this happening to you. You have to deal with it yourself.

That carries over and you learn to not socialize or go out for fear of being mocked and ridiculed which makes it even harder. By then you are already in grips of depression which saps your willpower and you don't have any self-esteem at this point.

People will tell smokers you have a bad habit but smokers still can live a fairly normal life and go about there business, but ask yourself why do smokers smoke? They usually run to a cigarette when they are stressed and to relax. When does a fat person run to their vice? When stressed, depressed, ridiculed, laughed at, nervous, etc etc. See the difference? Every waking moment is being pushed to your addiction and the world is telling you your worthless and point their fingers at you driving you further to that vice.

I'm telling you my mindset, this is what always went thorugh my head it really fucked me up to the point I stopped socializing, going out, went down to just one friend and formed habits of avoiding places and people just out of embarrassment. Even my own mother would frequently call me lazy but everytime I tried to lose weight it never worked, I was always gasping for breath and always tired and it got worse with exercise even though I was always told I would get more energy I never did.

Now heres the kicker, the reason I stopped posting on gaf over the last year was because a little over a year ago i started having random heart palpitations followed by black outs. After a couple months finally went to ER. They ran EKG, stress test couldn't find anything, kept me overnight hooked up to a heart monitor. By some sort of miracle I happened to have a black out attack overnight. Doctor came in next day and told me my heart had stopped for 14 seconds. Thats what was causing my blackouts and they had to put a pacemaker in. The first thing I immediately jumped to was my weight just as I am sure a bunch of you reading this right now are jumping to. Hell, the next day before the paramedics came to take me to the other hospital for surgery about a hour before they got there my condition very suddenly got more critical and my heart was stopping every 1o minutes. As I was rocking back and forth on my bed thinking I was going to die right there I was filled only with self loathing blaming myself.

They did some scans and xrays as well. Saw an endocrinologist and heart doctor and respiratory doctor for a couple months after that. They found a 2 inch mass on my adrenal gland that had been causing a couple of my hormones to be off causing a drop of B12 or Vitamin D all the way down to 7 and extended drop of testosterone which combined had been causing my lethargy and lack of energy. They found tissue damage on my heart caused by a defect that was blocking the proper "pulses" or signal from my brain that was causing the arrythmia (sp) that had been there for a very long time just never detected also contributing to lethargy, poor sleep and out of breath/winded.

After getting the pacemaker and taking medication and testosterone shots and vitamain D prescriptions I really felt like someone else. i have more to lose but already dropped over a hundred pounds. The thing is after years of being this way with no help, shunned, ridiculed, my own mother telling me I was lazy, not sure I will ever get over that mental scarring. I'm not saying every overweight person has a hidden problem, but my point is its not your judgment call to make and when you ridicule, embarrass, whisper behind and shun its just like any other form of bullying and you are harming that person mentally, maybe irrevocably and just pushing them further into their vicious cycle of depression, lack of self esteem and addiction.

Wrong.

Posting a "you must weigh under XX pounds to buy from us" sign on the front counter will do a whole lot of nothing but give the restaurant a massive dose of negative publicity, and no business wants that.

Most importantly, it wouldn't help anyone.

Shaming an obese person out of a restaurant won't make said person eat better.
The incredibly negative attitude I see from some in here (and other threads) isn't conducive to weight loss either.

I'm sitting at a window seat in Burger King last month and this van pulls up. Woman gets out, opens the side of the van, and out comes rolling what has to be at least a 400 pound man on a motorized scooter. He drives himself to a table and his wife goes up order.

She proceeds to order TWO triple-whoppers with cheese and two large fries and the largest drink available. She took it to the table and then she went back and ordered for herself.

I couldn't believe it. First, I had no idea BK had triple whoppers. They aren't on the regular menu, at least at this particular one so I guess you have to special order it.

I wanted to walk up to the guy and ask him if he values his own life at all. But..I didn't because its not my life and it's not really my business. It made me very sad more than anything.

I would have just walked out in disgust, people like that just purely disgust me. They have the right to be like that, but I dont want to subjected to seeing that garbage.

because they can cause you to pay more in taxes?

Refusing service to them will make no difference whatsoever. They'd just end up getting the food somewhere else.

Also, as someone who was obese for most of his life, and still has about 40 pounds to lose to be at the weight he wants... Obesity is completely self inflicted.

As a black man does this mean I'm free to speak for all black people in the world? I don't care if you were obese in the past, it doesn't mean you can make that generalization for everybody else.

I'd be willing to bet that many of the people in here who hate, yes hate obese people are the same ones who are so compassionate and caring about the thousands of drug users destroying their lives. Their compassion most likely comes from the belief, rightly or wrongly that drug addicts cannot control their addiction and need help. Think about about the hypocrisy for a second.

Wrong.

How can he be wrong, he is obviously an expert on the matter.

See, weight is a very simple concept to grasp. When you put in more than you take out, you gain weight and eventually become obese. Duh!

I mean, it's not like I gained massive amounts of weight when I was throwing up 20-30+ times a day for a year or two and barely eating much at all. I was obviously just putting in more than I was taking out. It's not like the medication or anything affected my body in any weird ways. That is un-possible. I chose to gain weight, bro. Self-inflicted.

Banning obese people from eating at fast food chains is not going to solve obesity. What needs to happen is start looking at the overall big picture and start asking questions like why are there so many fast food chains anyway, and then broaden the scope from there.

*snip*

May I ask you a question? Why didn't you get checked out by a doctor before you started having problems with your heart? I had a family member with a similar situation, but she felt something from just not right about her weight/health. She got a battery of tests done and the problem was found early enough that no damage was done. She then lost the weight and is doing excellent.

So, I'm curious why you waited until it got serious.

Wow, thanks for sharing. Yeah, it infuriates me when i see people make stupid remarks and judge others even when they can clearly see that doing so will just hurt people and push them away. Its cruel and there is absolutely no excuse for it if you're an adult

Is it so hard to be a nice person and contribute to an environment where people feel confortable being themselves without fear of being ridiculed?

Glad to see you are in a better place in life now, man :)

There is no right or wrong answer for this. It would be unjust to denying a basic human right. If people have bad habits and keep doing them, ultimately there is nothing that's going to stop them from living their own lifestyle. No one can.

Doesn't matter the situation. There are some that would argue that any fast food place is responsible for their customers health, just like bartenders are for late nighters.

I need to read up more on this to have a better opinion on it :/

HAhah anyone who did this would be fired from my restaurant, and then I'd take them out back and beat them with a hose. Don't mess with my money, Paulie. All of a sudden you wanna have a conscience? Well you can do that at home. I pay you to sell hamburgers and cupcakes, not guilt trips you little fuck.

Selling fatty food to fatty people is kind of the business model.

also this.

And no, beef is pretty goddamned expensive these days. If you really cared about the welfare of your customers, make sure all of your entrees are really healthy. It isn't hard. Nothing wrong with fats if they're healthy, and countered with plenty of fiber and vitamin enriched vegetables. If you order a plate of wings, but they come with vegetable rolls and dip, there, you have balance. If you order a fattyburger covered in endive, chard, and thinly sliced carrots, and the best fucking blend of dijon and sweet mustard ever, shit, you just turned back Satan. If you actually give a fuck, then do, but don't just give yourself an excuse to do a superiority jerkoff sesson.

That would be an ineffective approach to tackling the obesity epidemic. If it happened on any large scale, a black market for unhealthy food would be created. Think Will smuggling burgers to Uncle Phil on fresh prince but much more widespread.

I do not mean to offend anyone by creating this topic, just want general opinion about this topic. I was discussing this with some friends a few days ago.

My good friend who owns/manages a few locations of a big restaurant chain, told me how he sometimes feels guilty when he has overweight/obese customers walk in, and just stuff themselves with the most horrible shit. That's when we started discussing this 'Law'.

Would you be O.K with this? Is this a breach of Human-Rights?

So, what would the arbitrary weight limit be? And would they need to weigh them to check this? It's a fucking ridiculous proposition. I have no sympathy for obese people who have no will power and are intentionally poisoning themselves and their health, if they choose to do so its their own damn prerogative. Just like smoking, its a choice they make and need to live with.

Should fast-food stores have the right to withold service from blacks?

Combination of things. We were pretty poor family, living paycheck to paycheck. Even with insurance we usually couldn't afford deductibles. For example when I fell down to two flights of stairs in high school (combined with my weight issues you can see how wonderful an experience that was for the rest of the semester for me) I screwed up both of my ankles. I thought I had just sprained them or something but didn't go to hospital because knew we couldn't afford the deductibles and copays at the time so just let them heal on their own. They didn't heal right and have had issues with my ankles for a long time.

That combined with the overall sentiment of those around me and seeing these weight loss people telling me it was all my fault I really thought I was just being subconsciously lazy. which when every weight loss program I tried kept failing and I was getting even more tired after workouts I would just give up, hate myself and fall into deep depressions. The funny thing is about the blackouts I didn't go right away when they really started happening because my family and doctor kept acting surprised when I wouldn't come back testing positive for diabetes so I just kind of assumed it was me finally becoming diabetic and having diabetic shocks.

What kind of idiot... You wouldn't make any money sir.

Those people have to find out the hard way. A fat man and his food is like a man in a horrible relationship that he tries so hard to justify is right. Some folks have to be broken before they can recover.

You cannot stop them, they will just buy shit from somewhere else.
