Silent Hill 2 reportedly have issues due to the PS5 Pro’s upscaling tech and looks worse

Players on the Silent Hill 2 Reddit page have been complaining for more than a week that even though the game is apparently PS5 Pro Enhanced, it still has options for Quality and Performance graphics options.

It’s claimed that Quality mode still runs at 30 frames per second with no noticeable improvement, while Performance mode now has an odd shimmering effect on some surfaces.

It’s been suggested that the shimmering may be a result of the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology used by the PS5 Pro, and that it’s working incorrectly with this particular game.

Oooof.

There's not been many patches though even for the PC version. Infact, do bloober even even really patch their games much?

The shimmering on wet roads looks like Robocop did for me on PC using FSR or XeSS. Only demanding game I've played at native res for a long time.

Uhm is the patch out yet to add pssr?

No. Unfortunately some games got the Pro Enhanced tag without official patches being deployed.

Hopefully Sony resolves that quickly as to not create false advertisement.

The fact that its been 10 days and there are 0 communication about this from the dev team is incredible. We dont even know for sure if its Pro supported or not, everyone is just guessing

Has Konami done patch announcements online for this game prior to the Pro's release? I haven't paid attention.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

If it came out after that September "from now on all games must have PS5 Pro support", it could have already been there since release, no?

That doesn't really mean what people think it means.

I think it's a fairly safe assumption.

Besides, SH2 already had signs of PSSR code on it at release.

Imagine spending 799€ on this to having games looks basically the same or worse.

Don't think this game has been updated since October... So the odds of it being actively pro enhanced is likely untrue.

The PS5 Pro Enhanced label simply means that it is scheduled to be enhanced. It doesn't mean there is a patch available now.

The hate for the PS5 Pro is actually hilarious to see.

Just in general, it's a nothingburger of a requirement that doesn't mean anything other than "it must run on the console". Same thing happened with PS4 > PS4 Pro and PS4 > PS5.
Driveclub VR (Japanese version) and LEGO Horizon Adventures were first-party games released after PS Pro consoles without enhanced support.

It's not patched yet. Jesus.

And this is a post from 10 days ago. LTTP Draugoth Draugoth lol.

So why then is the game advertised as Pro Enhanced in the PS Store on the PS5 Pro? That is grossly misleading and just leads to people assuming the game *is* patched and then voicing their disappointment over it when it does not look any different or better than on the base system.

Also, I bought Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on disc cheap from Amazon last week after I got my Pro because it was listed a Pro Enhanced but was confused initially as it wasn't clear from the Graphics Modes if the game was actually Pro Enhanced or not (to clarify I never played this on my launch PS5). I then played it in the Quality mode and thought the game looked fine but I did notice some flickering textures and aliasing during the opening planet section that made me wonder if this was just the Pro's Boost mode at work, increasing the dynamic resolution target and locking the framerate to 30 fps, and if the game was actually patched for the Pro at all.

This is a problem in my opinion if a game looks subjectively worse and the developers choose to remove the original modes. I assumed because Silent Hill 2 was listed as Pro Enhanced that the developers also had chosen to remove the original modes and just replace them with Pro enhanced ones without making it obvious that these were Pro enhanced.

Very confusing and not a great look for an expensive console in my opinion. It should always be clear when a game has been patched with Pro support from including patch notes, a pop up on loading the game for the first time on the Pro ("Pro enhancements available.") and the actual graphics settings themselves, which should include both the original modes and the new clearly labelled Pro modes. Having to second guess if a game is actually patched or not is definitely not good in my opinion.

They know exactly what they're doing by tagging games with "Enhanced", come on now. Akschually-ing that tag is absurd. Well you see, what it really means is... come on.

Any average consumer who isn't a total nerd like us on GAF will assume exactly what it says. The game is ENHANCED and labeled as such on Sony's official storefront. This implies Sony "certifies" it to be so. Excusing that and putting the blame on consumers as "uneducated" is asinine to me. I've been buying PS systems since the PS1 straight and not even I can muster up enough fanboy energy to not see this launch as bungled and half-baked bullshit.

I'm still trying to understand why Sony hasn't implemented a feature to allow the user to enable Pro enhancements or simply run the game on standard PS5 mode, running the game natively

If the game is listed as "PS5 Pro Enhanced" and it isn't, that is clearly misleading.

I mean I agree with you. They shouldn't have put the tag when the patch hasn't been released yet.

I'm sure it's coming, but I guess Sony was trying to get a lot of people on board with the Enhanced tag in their marketing plan leading up to release. Definitely backfiring on them to some degree.

People will just have to wait until official announcements have been made by developers. The Pro Enhanced tag should be disregarded until otherwise.

Gran Turismo 7 is not listed as Pro Enhanced and that was the other big first-party PS5 game that everyone was looking forward to playing on the Pro at launch. Obviously, that patch never arrived - it is supposedly being released this week - so it was quite rightly not included in the list of Pro Enhanced games on the PS Store and I knew it wasn't when I loaded it up last week on my Pro.

So why was Silent Hill 2 included if it isn't actually patched yet? It just adds unnecessary confusion in my view.

Now when my boss or girl asks what is wrong or why i haven't done something correctly i say i haven't received the PS5 Pro Patch and to wait a little longer.

there were days when game launch did not requires patch and beta testing. Simply plug and play is the sole purpose of console and making it same as PC with different kind of graphic setting and patches after patches same is like PC but
with a fixed box.

Should not be advertising that your game is Pro Enhanced if it's not Pro Enhanced yet.

It doesn't matter if it's on the to-do list, as people buying the game for their PS5 Pro now, are literally being mislead or people who are buying the PS5 Pro to experience it, are also being mislead.

it seems having more consoles in market is a worse deal for everyone. i wonder how is the situation gonna be with the switch 2 😬.

devs are getting "lazy"

Did PS4 Pro had these kind of issues at launch? If not than i think PS5 Pro is the most useless and forced release by Sony. People are paying $700+additional gadget for best experience but if they are not getting than people
should think if this worth of spending or not. It's your money and you should judge that are these issues justify your purchase.
