Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

I'm just afraid of what might happen if Skyrim gets more 10's than 9's and if Zelda gets more 9's than 10's.

hahaha, seriously?? Well, if it helps, it got a 10 from EDGE and Skyrim got a 9. So, SS already has an advantage from at least one publication.

but Skyrim got a 10 from Eurogamer and i doubt SS get's a 10 from them.

A good writer can juggle both without one influencing the other. After all, we're not scientists. There's no science to reviewing a game. It's all just a opinions. So, a good writer will make their writing entertaining and fun to read, usually with a hook at the start to draw in readers, but substance in writing that eloquently and honestly articulates our opinions.
Still, a good businessperson can influence their own opinion in support of one more profitable truth than another. You see then the problem for the reader of a review, no?

For example, IGN has always had a flock of Nintendo Fanboys following its channels. You can see it on the boards. A fantastic review for Skyward could perpetuate those hits. While the reviewer may attempt to be honest in his assessment of Skyward, the question always exists as to whether a reviewer will shy away from his best interest in keeping those fanboys happy, no?

Right, and that is a purely subjective issue that exists from person to person. Some people are shit, and produce shitty, biased reviews. But their behaviour isn't universal, nor are the tactics they use to impose their bias exclusively for imposing a bias.

If the reader wants to doubt the reviewer then fine. There's nothing we can say to change that. All we can do is write the content, and then you can read it if you want, and formulate an opinion from that.

Why not?
People seem to think EG are harsh, but they do give out a lot of 10s.

53 10s according to Metacritic!

Let's just avoid this turning into that other..erm..unmentionable review thread from a couple weeks ago.

It's a Zelda game. Reviews will be glowing, but the real legacy will be determined by the fans in the weeks, months, and even years to come.

i hope it gets 8s all over the place.

I'm waiting for the review out there that hates on the game simply because it's motion based, regardless of how well it is implemented.

Also, I can't help but think of Schutzstaffel every time I write SS... :-/

Xenoblade is my GOTY by so far (it is my fav. JRPG beating Chrono Trigger),but still have to play Batman, Rayman and Zelda though.
Of those 3 I guess only Zelda might snatch it, but its going to be though.

Feep has to dance around it for embargo purposes, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo ninjas aren't going to come after the rest of for assuming he liked Twilight Princess more than Skyward Sword. :)

I'm very interested to read what should at least be a tempered review of the game. I suspect the most significant changes to the structure of the game didn't sit well with him. I kind of hope that's the case, as there would still be a good chance I'll end up disagreeing. I'm not that high on Twilight Princess, so if the problem is that SS has similar but more significant flaws than TP (tediousness, in my opinion), that's going to be pretty disappointing.

Anyway, looking forward to it, Feep, because it's just a friggin' video game. :)

Oh, in addition to Portal 2, Catherine, Deus Ex, Arkham City, Uncharted 3, and no doubt Skyward Sword, 3D Land, Skyrim and Mario Kart, I should also add that MvC3/UMvC3, Pokemon Black and White and Pilotwings Resort (without hesitation) are, for me, worthy Game of the Year Contenders.

A fair number of Nintendo 10's as well, even in recent years. I would expect a 10 from them. Also expecting a 10 from Videogamer.

Anyone expecting this to topple Ocarina on aggregate sites? GTA on Metacritic because I don't know what the funk is going on there.

People have waaaaay too much time on their hands to be doing mods for a LEAKED DEMO

They are likely to work on the full game as well, so I'd say they are just getting ahead.

Seeing people get their copy so early is depressing. I guess its true, EU for some places is going to sell early. Why can't the US do things like these? I wouldn't be surprised if stores already have the game right now, just sitting in the back. Wtf.

Man, the guy at gamestop today was an absolute jerk. I hate him.
"Are you guys gonna break the streetdate on Skyward Sword?"
"Uh no, are you stupid?"
"...Okay."

He said that? I would have had some choice words for him too, lol

Why does it sound like they already have the game in store?

:lol To be fair, it was kind of a daft question. Everyone knows you've got to give a manager a blowjob for that shit

Those mods are stupid, leave the game as it was originally planned.

Yeah, that's why i never use alt. skins in CSS or TF2.

I guess and hope it is just me and my probably broken motion plus attachment. But did anyone else had problems controlling the beetle?

It seemed really unresponsive and even uncontrollabe. If this continues to be in the final version I'll probably won't finish the game.

I would have done something, but I'm pretty well known around that store, and every employee (EXCEPT THAT ONE) is really nice.

At least knock over the magazine racks. :) I should call mine right now for shits and giggles.

Does the Wii mote with built in motion plus work better then the one with the attachment? I was just planning on getting a cheap attachment to play this instead of buying a whole new controller. Thoughts on this?

It's exactly the same. Although the one with the attachment obviously is a bit longer ;)
