Sleeping Dogs |OT| not releasing this would have been a True Crime

I just want to know more about the High Rollers DLC pack - I presume it will only add a blingy costume, gambling buff, and possibly safe room decor/a single casino-based mission. Be sweet if it added a good load of content (new games and more than one outfit) and a meaty side-story-arc, but I don't think that is the DLC strategy being pursued...

... ach, I still lament This is Vegas...

I'm a little bummed how much gunplay seems to take a back seat. I was hoping there would be a good balance, at least that's the impression that I got from some of the trailers. Oh well, the melee looks like it'll make up for it

I am way too excited for this game.

Today's agenda is to power through the rest of the "get pumped for sleeping dogs" marathon. Still have Hard Boiled, The Killer and A Better Tomorrow to watch. Trying to throw in 2 martial art flicks in the vein of the game but for the life of me cannot come up with anything.

I think this game is a breath of fresh air in that aspect of a bigger focus on melee. The problem that I usually have with open world games is that they all seemingly try to be Grand Theft Auto when they are not. If I wanted to play GTA then I would. I think more open world games should specialize in something other then being a generic GTA clone.

Saints row, Just cause, Crackdown, etc all have their certain aspect that separates them from being too similar to GTA and I think that is what the genre needs to survive.

If anything I think this game could have had an even bigger focus on melee and could have made it similar to ninja gaiden (1 and 2) and allowed you to pull off full combos and different techniques when fighting enemies. Perhaps in the sequel they could give u a full movelist like a fighting game for use rather than a generic punch punch kick combo to dispose of enemies.

Nonetheless the game is a breath of fresh air with the martial arts aspect take on the open world genre.

Hey guys, reporting live from Hong Kong, here's the Hong Kong Limited Edition I just picked up from the store 30 minutes ago.

It says "3 contents" but there're actually four DLC included with this edition.

On the back of this is a set of DLC code, there is another voucher for another 3 sets of DLC, but it's just a white sheet of paper so not worth taking a photo of.

That's it, pretty shitty "Limited Edition", nothing out of the ordinary except the black plastic bag, which is the standard packaging for age-restricted materials like porn mags in Hong Kong.

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad
There's always a difference in colors when it comes to multiplat PS360 titles, you have to readjust the contrast\brightness settings on your TV when you switch between systems. I thought this was a given 6 years into the fricken generation lmao.

But still, I hear 360 has more vibrant colors! PS3 is dark! Well guess which system you calibrated your T.V. to work with brother.

For me, it's a pain in the ass and I don't give a shit to play with the settings. But, I'm sure the perfectionist in some of you will get the better of your sanity, as it does mine sometimes.

My main TV is from 2009, the other is from 2012. I actually pop this in when I switch between consoles and it's a long game : Disney WOW: World of Wonder.

Yup, gonna watch my Hard Boiled brruu ray this week. Need to track down some more HK flicks to watch as well...

Can you report back how well it plays on PS3?

Other then the ones i am watching today, over the past week i watched

Election
Outrage
Infernal Affairs 1+2 (I hear Infernal Affairs was a huge inspiration for the game)
Flash Point
The Raid
Police Story 1+2

I threw in Police Story 1+2 and Flash Point for the martial arts/cop stuff, Election/Outrage are just outstanding yakuza/triad movies and The Raid i did just because it has brutal gun play/martial arts.

Mines from 2008 and took per input calibration for granted in modern tv's. Guess I was wrong then.

I probably have that setting via HDMI 1,2,3,4... I should have thought of that.

I was talking to a multiplat developer once, and they told me that the PS3 and Xbox360 just render totally different. My thoughts are because the whole nvidia vs ATI thing. He stated that if you give a color to each console, they just do different things with them. If you want to get them to look the same you have to really fiddle with them (he was using a vectorscope lol).

I bet a lot of developers don't go through the hassle, since if most players won't notice, and besides as long as the game looks consistent with other games from that console, then the players screens will show a consistent output.

Sure, I plan to stay up pretty late playing this game tonight, I'll give some first impression before I go to bed (10:45PM right now, won't go to back till 2AM). I'm a local Hongkonger so I'm REALLY hyped for this. From what little I've played so far, the graphics is nothing special, but I haven't noticed any slow-down or screen tearing yet, everything's running silky smooth so far, average graphics is a trade-off I'm willing to make for a consistently stable performance.

EDIT: Oh and the combat, I'm sure everyone have seen the footage and yes it is very much like Arkham City, but don't expect it to be as responsive or as fluid as Batman, that combat system alone was a real achievement IMHO, and Sleeping Dogs just can't match it, but it's close. If you've played the recent Amazing Spider-Man game which tried to imitate Batman AC's combat, Sleeping Dogs is infinitely better than Spidey, but it's just not on the same level playing field as Arkham City.
Hmm... if you could share what the fourth piece of content is, it would be appreciated!
The voucher with the artwork on the pack is for "Hong Kong EXCLUSIVE DLC PREMIUM Deep Undercover Pack", I don't know what it includes because the DLCs aren't up on the PS Store yet, have to wait till the official release day tomorrow. The rest are Police Protection Pack, Martial Arts Pack and GSP Pack, which all you guys in the US and Europe get for pre-ordering the game.

These DLC's sound ridiculously stupid and should be on the disc. I am still getting the game though; I usually don't pass up an open world game.

There you go, problem solved. Everyone, go get yourselves a vectorscope!

Hey it makes it like a CAT III Logo from a triad movie!

This is worse than bagged milk, I never knew they did this to games in HK, is it some special packaging to meet some mature audience rating or something?

It's based on the movie ratings system. TELA used to handle that, but it was merged with other bodies to create the Communications Authority back in April of this year.
http://www.coms-auth.hk/en/home/index.html

Don't know if they handle video games, but they likely would.

Things with triad depictions, especially if it shows hand gestures, initiation ritual and triad slang, would often get cut, beeped, get a CAT III rating in Hong Kong. Not surprised the video game would, excluding the violence and other things that would get a restricted rating.

Game pre-ordered. I traded in a bunch of stuff to Gamestop since I don't really console game anymore and ended up with $200 in steam giftcards. Sleeping dogs was my first purchase. Going to get to put that remote install thing to the test tomorrow while I'm working. Yay.

GetGamesGo.com just unlocked the code for my pre-order.

I've just activated it on Steam and I'm waiting for it to be available for download.

Someone posted in this thread that the only notable difference is more fibrant colours in the 360 version.

That was me and I didn't notice much of any difference.

Correct and we fiddled for long enough that it became a waste of time. It's NOT just a TV thing. It is also NOT a big thing just noticable if you had them side to side. Could have also been older cables, or a hundred other things. But since other multiplat games seemed to be fixable and this one wasn't it was either the game or the system and its cabling.

This is worse than bagged milk, I never knew they did this to games in HK, is it some special packaging to meet some mature audience rating or something?
I want one:)

So getting a code from a secondary site like GMG will unlock the game pretty much tomorrow [assuming it pre-loads], but pre-ordering through steam will keep the game locked until goddamn Friday 8 pm?

"Thanks for putting your faith into our product by pre-ordering it early, now suck it"

I hate this unlock bullshit with a passion.

A bit OT but "The Raid" also comes out tomorrow for anyone who's interested. Thought I'd share since the movie is somewhat in the spirit of this game.

The black plastic bag is just a gimmick, this is the first game to do this (well, excluding Hentai stuff), usually they just put a sticker on the box if it's mature-rated, like this:

IxYBt.jpg

And as member "Manos: The Hans of Fate" pointed out, it's meant to mimic the M-rated DVDs/Magazines packaging in Hong Kong.

I can talk about this game in 15 hours, be it good and/or bad.

I'm really interested in seeing the reaction people will have to this game. In particular people who are fans of open world games. I'm not trying to subtly imply anything by saying that either, I genuinely mean it.
