I miss the Merlin handheld electronic game, the Green Machine which was vastly superior to the Big Wheel & a FULL bag of small chips that cost 10cents.

Jesus Christ I just gave away my age.

I miss conversations. I remember watching adults, when I was a kid, talking about one topic for an extended amount of time, and they would take turns as they spoke, each waiting for the other person to finish their thought before the next one started talking. Now, it seems like everyone is just always talking all at once, all the time, often about different subjects. Unless they're looking at their phone, of course.

I used to go out to lunch with my collegues and there would always be decent conversation (2007). Then the 1st person in the lunch group brought the iPhone, but nobody cared becuse he was the quiet one anyway. But one by one everyone got iPhones and conversation stopped at lunch replaced by "Checking emails", 5 minute amusing apps and reading the internet. I was the last holdout but then I needed one becuse I was bored at lunch with nobody engaging in conversation anymore.

Absence of social media. To know someone, you’d actually have to make an effort to speak to and interact with them, not presume based on a curated scrolling list of crap.

Going out and socializing around activities without someone constantly taking photographs or videos for the “gram”.

Tech as a hobby shared by likeminded individuals. You might be poles apart in personality and disposition but you’d click, either in person or online. The internet as a whole reflected this. It was many pockets of interest coming together minus the gatekeeping of today.

Going for a long walk with a new audio tape, a Walkman with some new batteries and coming back having discovered a new favorite artist.

“Aww, it’s so...average,” she said to him in a cold brick of passion
Waking up without a a shitload of dread about all of the drama and nonsense I will have to deal with from the world around me for the next 10 hours until I can come home again.

I miss waking up and my biggest worry being what was for breakfast and if I had enough time for cartoons before I caught the bus.

Getting a new magazine in the mail every month. Nintendo Power, Nickelodeon, some science mags, it was a great time when those arrived to absorb every single page of info.

You miss mullets? How about rat tails? All the range in my hood around 84-85, I reckon they're due a resurgence :/

I'm surprised to read some many people praising how it was simpler as a kid. School was definitely more tedious for me with exams, homework, bullies, small jobs etc.

The enthusiasm of the writing in Gaming magazines.
Especially in Maximum and Official Sega Saturn magazine.
Rich leadbetter had me grinning like a lunatic with his energy for all things Sega related.
So much better than all the entitled whining and crying that's about now.

Going to blockbuster or hollywood video after work to rent a movie. Going to the large fye store near downtown and checking out the anime movie section.

Going to the book or movie stores in the malls. Going to the bookstore was the main reason I went to the mall. Going to the movies was second.

The used movies and video games selections were also amazing back then in store but at least you can buy them online but it lacks the magic of physically touching the movie or video game case and pulling one out to read the back of the case.

I used to go shopping with my mom and would always run over to Toys R Us, by myself, to spend time looking at the covers and back covers in the videogame aisle.
I recall picking Contra on the NES solely based on the cover art - and boy howdy did that pay off for me!! To this day, I can still beat that game with three lives.

It's possible I may be able to tolerate it more now that I'm somewhat more steady reading The Bible. Before, my head just wasn't there.

I miss the days of upcoming consoles being mysterious and potentially INCREDIBLY powerful. The early to mid-90s was the peak for this.

The 3D0, Jaguar, and the M2 (RIP) were all very intriguing to me as a kid before release. A big part of that was the marketing campaigns and the previews/rumor mill sections in gaming magazines. Maybe older gamers were more informed and jaded, but I remember always having hope that a new console was going to blow everything out of the water and produce lifelike graphics out of nowhere.

Eventually my hype got transferred to GPUs in the early 00s, which actually lived up to that promise to some degree.

When I was a kid we had huge fruit trees all over our yard, I miss just spending my days swinging from branches and eating green apples for the entire day.
It did eventually have a bad side when I hit the apples a little too hard and learned the term "Green Apple Quickstep"
but that aside.. it was an amazing place to grow up.

I miss random sexual encounters when I worked at bars. Drunk chicks that I would normally need to work for or might not be interested in me otherwise. I loved being that guy to fuck because she got in a fight with her boyfriend or just some random shit. I had a great repour with this inspiring singer once. Average voice but was absolutely gorgeous and tall. She went and got these massive fake boobs and took me to her car just to show me. We hooked up a couple dozen times after that but nothing serious. I actually found an old phone of mine a month ago with a ton of blurry(but awesome).pics, most of which I can't remember. 2009ish. Lots of stupid looking belly rings, not even sure if thats in style now.
