Been playing DKC1 on Retroarch on my phone (with Razor Kishi). Man, this game has brutal difficulty but the first few levels I'm doing from muscle memory.
1) I hate that your progress doesn't save automatically after each level.
2) I hate that you can't exit a world until you reach the Funky Kong's flying barrel travel
3) The combination of both 1 and 2 makes it difficult to play this game in short bursts because if you start a new world, you are usually in for 3-5 levels before you either reach a save point or flying barrel to reach a save point in another world.
I realized earlier that I have done 101% on DKC before, as back when I had a SNES and few games this was one of them. I believe I got it for Christmas or a birthday one year, and since I was a poor broke lad I played the hell out of it over and over again. I also realized I never beat the sequels. I'll probably rectify this at some point, but probably not this month. I'm on the ice world now (world 4 of 7) so I'm a bit over half way done but probably not by overall playtime.
This game is way tougher than I thought it'd be, even with the warnings beforehand
Is DKC2 about the same in difficulty?

Rare games?
I decided I at least wanted to see the rest of the game and started savestate scumming. Got to the bee boss and... You're supposed to shoot its tiny little stinger how many times?? Nope! Imma take my DKC1 nostalgia goggles and go home, tyvm. But seriously I might just see if there are some cheats for this game because I really do want to take in the atmosphere.
On that note... What are some other good 16-bit platformers that are must-plays?
I've done...
DKC (Obviously...)
Super Mario All-Stars + SMW
Sonic 1 and 2
Super Castlevania IV
+Rondo of Blood (Maybe even better than SOTN!)
+Bloodlines (haven't finished it yet due to Castlevania burnout, but it's pretty awesome)
Super Ghouls'n' Ghosts
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
Contra III
Aladdin (Genesis and SNES)
Curse of the Moon 1 and 2 (Okay, okay... They're not 16-bit but damn they're good!)
I've tried...
Yoshi's Island (I know there's a rom hack to shut baby Mario up, but I really don't dig the aesthetic)
Sonic and Knuckles + Sonic 3 (It just looks kinda weird after playing the first two)
Super Metroid (I will eventually do this one but it's just got such a dour, lonely vibe)
Dracula X (the background art is beautiful, but the level design is so meh)
Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 (I want to like these but I'm worried about frustrating difficulty)
I am interested in...
The Terminator (Sega CD)
Mega Man (The entire franchise is totally foreign to me... Where to begin??)
Ninja Gaiden/Shinobi (Never played any of these, either)
Anything based on Disney or WB, I guess...
Cinematic platformers... (I've played a bit of Prince of Persia SNES, but there are a handful of these. Which one is best and on which platform?)

Did anyone end up finishing the trilogy? Curious about people's thoughts, particularly DKC3.
I played through Super Mario RPG this month instead. Perfect game imo. All the qualities of Square RPG condensed in a shorter, tighter experience.

People say there’s input lag using the sn30pro+ on Switch has firmware fixed it?I have a SN30 Pro, SN30 Pro+, and the Switch SNES controller. If you can only get one, make it the SN30 Pro+. It’s the most comfortable and versatile of the bunch. But if you can afford (and find) one, Nintendo did a great job with the SNES controller.
The SN30 Pro was good for it’s time, but if you have the other 2 there isn’t much reason for it to exist.

If there is I haven’t noticed it. For reference I played Celeste using it the whole time and it was great. I did notice input lag on iOS while using Mac mode but switching it to xinput resolved it completely.
Right on, Celeste is an intense game, so that sounds great. Do you have the latest firmware installed too?
Also thank you for the Ipad tip too.
its too late for me to join the party?
