So I'm playing Fable

It's pretty fun. The combat's a little rubbery - that's really the only word I can use to describe it - but it's a pretty satisfying experience so far. The music's good and epic, the visuals are quite nice (despite framerate issues popping up), and while the story seems pretty basic so far, I really like the presentation and the cinemas with the painted tapestries. There is sooooo much menu stuff and customization in this game though...it was pretty overwhelming at first and I'm still likely overlooking some things, but I've more or less got the hang of it now. I'm trying to stay on the good side and wonder how far I am from my final path being decided. (I'm assuming that actually happens at some point)

Anyhoo, I just got past the part where
I fight Twinblade and see my sister again for the first time since the hero was young.

But yeah, cool stuff.

The Oakvale theme in Fable is ridiculously good. Whether or not the game lived up to the hype for you, the music is without a doubt among the best soundtracks of this gen.

Overhyped and underrated at the same time. One of those "love it or hate it games". I loved it. (Except for the load times)

Here's hoping Fable 2 is more seamless.

I really liked this game.

The exploring, the fighting (nice swords/bow/magic combination), and above all the atmosphere.

Really an awesome game, on PC. Don't know about Xbox, but heard the loading times sucked.

And the music was awesome indeed :)

Not close to what was promised but a fun game in its own light

I enjoyed it greatly

Hints: Magic makes you older...which sucks uncleansed anus

The loading is gonna get to you. Especially as they make you trek through the same areas and load points constantly for the quests. Combat gets pretty boring too, as not much seems to change as you progress. You can get new skills and abilities, but most are not needed to beat anything as your normal moves are strong enough.

I wouldn't have had a problem with the game if it weren't for these things. The story was decent, and the presentation was great (usually what matters in an rpg). Too bad the things that they make you do the most (explore and fight) are made too tedious for a lot of people.

Seamlessness would have helped that title a lot. Also, the environments need to be a bit more open.

(sounding fucking shocked) YOU'VE RECEIVED A NEW QUEST CARD!

Yeah I loved Fable. It's easily my favorite RPG on the Xbox. I give love to KOTOR, and KOTOR II, but I was highly disapointed with Jade Empire.

I really enjoyed Fable as well, but I can't put it on the same very very lofty pedastal that Kotor 1 and 2 sit on (currently playing through 2, it's class so far).

I picked up Jade Empire recently but I haven't had any time with it yet though.

Is The Lost Chapters worth getting if I already have Fable?

Jade Empire is my favorite Xbox RPG. Fable was okay, and I hated KOTOR because the combat was retarded.

I enjoyed Fable quite a bit as well, counter to what most of GAF feels about it. It was fun, even if it didn't live up to all the hype. Larger areas, more open, more to explore, and less load times would be great. Here's hoping Fable 2 on X360 delivers the game that Molyneux wanted to create. Fable sold a lot of copies so a sequel is almost assured.

For whatever reason, I liked it a lot more the second time through. While it failed to deliver a long, epic quest with implications for every choice made, and its lack of dungeons and load times every 100 feet were undesirable, I can't say I didn't have fun with it. Great music, atmospheric visuals, and an OK story definitely made it worthwhile.

Seamlessness would have helped that title a lot. Also, the environments need to be a bit more open.
The environments were just as constricted as RE4, which is pretty much unforgivable for an RPG like this.

kidding. Anyway, I loved Fable. definitely not all it was hyped up to be, but a spectacular game nonetheless.

Spectacular isn't the proper word here, fun is.

Fable was all but spectacular. And non-linear. And challenging. And long. And rewarding. And... etc.

Fable was just fun. And the fun was so... fun? that you forgot all of its shortcomings and weaknesses.

Shit, now you got me playing Fable again :( Oh well, it is in my backlog anyway.
Can't beat the Execution tree mission for some reason, damn bandit keeps getting away.

I just tell people the game is like Zelda with RPG elements before they play it. It actually helps a lot. Their expectations are lowered and thus, they enjoy it more!

I liked Jade more than Fable... Fable had the better combat system but Jade seemed to be a bit more sophisticated with plot/dialogue... even though both games ended up extremely linear and stuffed with repetitive combat starting 3/4 of the way in, Jade Empire had some nice town design and much better graphics (though both games have ugly char design :()

Don't worry too much about the menus and customization. You can just play the game and learn it as you go. I agree- I hate games that just burden me with options and commands. I like focused games that can maintain with only a couple of buttons (two preferably).

*bump*

Woo. Just rescued Scarlet Robe and fought off some baddies sent at me by evil wizard dude. 9 hours in and it still feels like I have quite a bit left to do. The people I've talked to about this game have said that it only takes about 10 hours to beat. Hmmm...
