I think it’s more to do with the context of the current day. For the last decade, Hollywood and game devs have been forcing 0-charisma girlbosses, diversity, and “Strong Female Protagonist” into freaking everything. And you can almost always smell the creators’ far left identity politics oozing out of it.

If this trailer came out in 2006 the reaction would be “huh, that’s an interesting design for a female protagonist”. In 2024 people are sick to death of this kind of character and all the shit that usually comes along with it.

I haven’t written the game off yet but I definitely got the “not this shit again” feeling as soon as I saw the protagonist.

Yeah I get that, I'm just going to see what the game delivers.

There was a part of gaf that even called Uncharged The Lost Legacy woke for not having Drake as the main character and "replaced" with an Indian woman, but that made no kind of sense when this was an off-main line game with the point of moving away from the main characters, used an established character, and Chloe is also 🥵 anyway lol. So to me it's both the problem and the overreaction and knee-jerk reaction to the problem that are problems. Not everything called woke is woke, and a lot of the time it's just a person of colour existing on screen that gets this immediate reaction.

Buut the actresses response in the OP does lend credence to this going a certain way, so let's see.

I don't really care about how the character looks to be honest. I watched the trailer again and she just looks super tired lol.

This kind of post from the actress won't go down well though and only puts ND in the firing line. It's the wrong kind of attention for sure. I wonder when developers (and anyone credited) will learn to just ignore the noise and let the game speak for itself.

Everything has become so boringly predictable. It feels like a poorly executed NPC script at this point.

No but they also shouldn't be attacked personally for their work.

A person who mocks Virgin Mary or any other religious symbol for brownie points is in no position to play the victim card.

Public figures must endure criticism the same way they get praise and love from fans.

What medium of forum are you both on. I spoke about "gamers" consuming games. What part got you both confused?

She didnt call gamers incels.
She didnt call the vast majority of consumers incels.

You dont see why im confused?

What was the controversy, other than some people weren't attracted to her?

A person of colour or female existing on screen as a main character is not in itself DEI or woke to me, unless the game is beating you over the head with actual woke messaging. Other things like Ciri's random bone structure change are no that, they're just internally inconsistent unless that was just a CG trailer oddity and they didn't have the original model.

I do think the actresses response will only make things worse as people take this as a confirmation of everything they accused it of.
People on both sides are acting in the most extreme way possible. They are acting just like each other on the opposite side and don't even realize it, lol. It is insane. The character of Intergalactic does not look that different from the actor, but if you read the online discourse, you'd think otherwise.

Oh no, people on the internet called me mean things. What better way to fix this than to put my employee's revenue in jeopardy.
This is the war that most of you wanted from the second the trailer released though.

The dog whistling everyday looking for something to bring down Naughty Dog & CD Projekt RED since the game awards.

How did they create this though? She was being called ugly by people mad about a videogame

People on the internet have always talked shit about celebrities. The correct move is to ignore it and say nothing.

And in this case, most of the people who were "mad about the videogame" were annoyed with the character, not the actress. People were actually pointing out how much more pretty she is than the character.

She isn't even the face model for Abby and was under worse attack. I think she handled the situation way better than the shaved, respect.

I'm 99.9% sure you're trolling me at this point. What characters were on her post? Who was she antagonizing with her post? Who is the audience who consumes Video Games largest diaspora? Let's hear your delusional take.

You are assuming that the people who called her ugly are the majority.

I love how nobody getting paid by Sony gives a shit how players getting chased away.

With Sony's crazy marketing budgets the game will sell good anyways, but it could be better if you listen to your main audience and i think we'are talking about more than just a couple of thousand people boycotting the game.

The circle of life only the video game industry does. Love it. Every industry has their cycle of hiring and firing sprees (ie. price of oil zooming up or down creates wild swings), but leave it to video game people always thinking they are gods.

I dont think even actors or directors get this salty when they know their movie or TV show flops. Some do, but they seem more chill than video game people. Even when a sports team is last place in the league losing 10 games in a row, it's actually pretty rare for players or coaches to troll back fans who are mad or laughing at the team. Go figure. Those brainwaves in gaming employees on a different level. lol
