So many space games

Any advice on a flight stick? I can't decide between the Thrustmaster TFlight Hotas or the Logitech 3D Pro. I don't have a lot to spend obviously.

Anything similar to Wing Commander or Colony Wars available yet? Single-player, off-line, mission/story-driven, without being diluted by RPG/micro-management/open-world elements?

All my hopes rest on it.

Doesn't Squadron 42 have a heavy (possibly primary) on-foot FPS component?

If you have a retail place nearby try them in your hands. The feel is important. I've never heard any big complaints about either. For some games having the throttle is great so that's in the TM's favor. I very rarely use base buttons on a joystick. For me I've been trained with either full HOTAS or Joystick/Kayboard since Descent.

After looking more into Starsector, it's pretty much Mount & Blade in space, the free form campaign has some striking similarities.

Rough planetary RTS I remember. Empire at War can also be quite aggravating.

I still have an entire post/thread saved somewhere about 4X/RPG Strategic/Tactical balance. It's very hard to get right because something with too much depth can be too time consuming over an entire campaign and something too light just feels like a waste of time.

The older I get, the more I cannot abide such nitty-gritty when it comes to the 4X scene. Don't make me configure individual classes of ships, and heck, don't bother making me fight unless the combat is swift and abstracted or properly-detailed and looks like a Gary Grigsby game.

I really can't stand the tired cruft of the big empire builders anymore. Give me more automation and greater feeling of an Autarch or the vibe of being part of a vast bureaucracy. Stellaris perhaps, but even then, Pocket Space Empire seems like it'll fit the bill if the kinks get worked out.

My dream game is a scifi 4x/grand strategy in the vein of a total war but
-tactical ground combat
-3D space combat
-direct control of at least some units
-characters that have their own goals and traits. Governors, admirals, captains of pirate fleets that would all live and die
-different government types play uniquely and can become new ones like in history. Like a mega corporation becoming a sovereign power, or an empire breaking up into kingdoms
-different scaled maps, like a really in depth sol system vs a map of Orion's arm with less individual detail, to simulate different eras.

I guess I want mount and blade in stellaris.

Hey man, I've dealt with years upon years of fantasy nonsense being the focus point of video games.

It's my time to shine! Gimme dat space!

Or Cyberpunk. A man can dream

Sure, but it's not the primary component, nor will it be particularly 'heavy'. In any case, it's not like it's something I don't want in a single player space-sim. Quite the contrary. Hell, a first-person universe has always been the ultimate dream of many space-sim fans. Cockpit action, FPS combat and EVA in zero-G. The dream.

Have always been a steady release of cyberpunk but they're usually smaller titles. Hopefully, stuff like Cyberpunk 2077, Satellite Reign, Copper Dreams, etc. are signs of a trend.

Wing Commander 4 at 14...

It's the only Wing Commander game on the list and it's second last. That's a travesty.

Top 3 should be Tie Fighter, Freespace 2 and Wing Commander something in any order.

Are there any good Android space games?
Preferably non-F2P ones so that there isn't some stupid always-online component and actual production values, and no in-app purchases.

I've been keeping an eye on SPAZ 2. It had been dead in the water for a while but seems to be making its way toward a release soon. Fun little top-down loot aRPG with ships.

Definitely. 2077 looks amazing so far. It is nice to be breaking away from large scale fantasy and seeing stuff done in a futuristic setting.

Galaxy on Fire 2 for iOS is great fun. Not sure if it got an android port. But it would be worth looking into

I got really into space games after the original X-Wing and Tie-Fighter games on the PC and really haven't seen anything like them since. I really liked Yager on the original Xbox and really think there should be more space games on consoles.

I think I will biggity bump this awesome thread with 10 minutes of Dual Universe gameplay. Its still early footage but the ability to build and customize looks pretty promising. It'll be neat to see how it plays out with all the players sharing the same world on the same server with the ability to modify things... dont know how thats guna work out but it should be interesting to say the least.

So many games here I didnt even know exist.

My phone almost committed suicide whilst opening this thread
I still think we're missing a really good rpg space game, hopefully the new mass effect will help me out

I really need to get around to Rebel Galaxy. Just been sitting in my backlog since Christmas. I know I'll love the fuck out of it, but I just keep putting it off.

I've heard great things about Starpoint Gemini 2, which is another one I really need to delve into. I've also heard ignore the first game, but that the new one, currently in Early Access, is good too.

Starpoint Gemin 2 is nice, but be warned it is fairly unpolished imho. As in the main campaign and voice acting can be an instant turn off for most... If you can get past that though and just ignore the terribad euro voice actors then it can be nice as something a bit less involved than X3 and a bit more involved than rebel galaxy..

Anything missionbased like tie fighter/x wing

Open world is to diluted imo

Tried House of the dying sun but it felt too scaled back with objectives etc, almost like a demo (cool flight model though)

The sequel is in Early Access and looks very promising. Overall though I still can't find a substitute for Privateer / Freelancer, shit is either too complex, too simple or just sucks.

Surprisingly X-Rebirth with latest set of expansions and bug fixes is finally decent.

Elite: Dangerous is on sale now how it compared to the X series, less or more complex? While I love space games im not patient enough to play games as complex as X
