Just like the good ole days, I paid $80 for Street Fighter 2 back then. You guys will pay and like it (or not but will still pay).

Those wait for a sale people will have to think differently considering sales don't happen often with Nintendo?

Wait a minute...

Doom: the Dark Ages was announced at 80€
Switch 2 games will be 80€

Coincidence...?

I imagine it's a mafia... All the developers, Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo, get together and make deals with each other. Nintendo must have agreed with Sony and Xbox on prices and even the video game format. Everything is rigged.

Inflation is real and someone always had to go first

Apple went first with removing the headphone jack and took the heat but now all phones don't have jacks

Nintendo is going first with raising game prices and they'll take the heat but I guarantee you Sony won't be far behind
Inflation is a meme, Nintendo hit record profits in the past years.

They can't even justify the price increase with the usual argument ("budgets are getting higher") because their games have smaller budgets than other companies.

They are charging $80 for Mario Party, Jesus.

Days Gone Remastered - $50
Last of Us Part 2 Remastered - $50
Spider-Man Remastered - $50

BoTW Switch 2 Edition - $70
ToTK Switch 2 Edition - $80
Mario Party - $80
Kirby - $80
You can buy any of those games of Sony on a sale for cheap and just buy the upgrade. Yesterday saw Breath of the Wild for $55 in Amazon plus the upgrade. Nintendo games never go on sale.

Unnecessary thats a fact. What the hell makes you think 80 is alright when other games that costs way more to make are being sold for 70? I love Nintendo but fuck me man they're a bunch of greedy cunts.

Now watch GTA 6 drop for a 100…

Unfortunately inflation. Meets already rising development costs due to the consumer appetite for prettier graphics and more features and open world etc. Meets tariffs. Meets console audience growth stagnating.

Considering Nintendo games are much cheaper to make, come from much smaller teams, and lack fidelity. There's ZERO justification for the price increase.

Development cost with a Nintendo game? Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 cost was 41millon USD. Do you think Nintendo spend more than that developing their games? I even see some Nintendo games that don´t even have voice acting.

60 USD in 2005 is equivalent to 98.03 today. The gain of the 70 dollar increase got totally shredded by inflation.

Nintendo may be particularly egregious is breaking new ground with sub-PS4 fidelity games, but the market bought into Tears of The Kingdom at 70 dollars without a price increase to the tune of over 20 million copies, and it will sell 5-10 million more before it's done.

Game prices do have to increase as the workers are demanding and getting higher wages and the projects take longer due to "work-life balance"

Unfortunately most people can't think logically like this. They just see they have to pay more and don't care why or if it makes sense.

yep google says Zelda:BotW 8+ years ago cost $120mn to make.

There's more to making games than voice acting. Especially if you're trying to make a polished game with polished game mechanics and squash all the bugs. In other words really refine it.

Many people put BOTW budget at around the 120 millions mark because of this particular story (2 000 000 units needed x 60$), but as far as we know, nothing indicates or confirms Zelda Breath Of The Wild needed only 2 millions to break even, not even Nintendo themselves.

TL;DR, Breath of the Wild didn't cost 120 millions, as far as we know. Many medias outlet were wrong about this and the need for Nintendo to sell 2 millions copies to break even. It's actually impossible to trace the full budget behind the development of the game

.

Is not confirmed by Nintendo.
Honestly do you think Breath of the Wild had a bigger budget or it cost more than making KCD2?

"In a recent Nintendo shareholder's meeting, Shigeru Miyamoto clarified the size of the development team on Zelda: Breath of the Wild but that it will also need to sell around 2 million copies to break even on its development costs. "

Now the full $60 per game doesn't flow to Nintendo so it is less than $120mn. But that also seemingly doesn't include marketing costs either. And maybe distribution costs. And more.

So that's the quick dirty evidence I found that it costs much more than you think it does to make a game like BotW. And that was 8 years ago. Before the massive covid inflation. Before recent tariffs. ...and before the greater expense of making a new gen. ...

The 2 millions of copies it considered in the link I posted. Read it.

Why the outrage? Sony also charged 79,99 Euro for Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök digital.

Sony is dead. Many people thought Switch 2 would save gaming, but apparently not.

Switch 2 did everything right (name, hardware, features). They have the perfect console to sell another 150 million units. But then someone at Nintendo decided, "wait, that's way too easy, we HAVE TO fuck something royally up!

This here was Switch 2's way to another 150 million:

- Hardware price of 449
- Software price 59.
- Pro Controller 59 or 69 (but with hall effect sticks).
- Switch 1 update Cartridges with all the game data included (no digital update download code sheananigans).

This was their easy way to an unprecedented victory, yet they choose to generate one of the most anti-hype console reveals in video game history.

People are so pissed and appalled by their pricing policy, nobody is even talking about their new game reveals anymore.

How can you destroy so much hard earned goodwill in one fucking day? Did they have Trump as one of their business startegy advisors?

An argument can be made that video games have been overdue for a price hike for a while. However, there's a big difference between charging $80+ for a big 100+ hour AAA game with truly next gen graphics, and fucking Mario Kart.

So yes. Nintendo has gone crazy with these prices and I hope it fucks them over.

Maybe there is a reason for the increase they have not explained yet. I am thinking the Switch 2 cartridges probably taste a lot better then the Switch 1 cartridges.

I'd advise anyone that if you don't have a gaming PC, and you thought about getting one, now's the time to start saving. You've got almost 8 months until Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Get a good rig and never look back. Console gaming is cooked. 5+ year developments on first party titles, and inflating prices on games and hardware that keeps lagging behind.

Absolutely!

I could understand if Nintendo games had GTA-level development budget, and that could still sound dubious, but they aren't. Inflation and brand value are just lame excuses to damage control this. This can spark a very dangerous trend among the gaming industry.

A lot of these were $40-50 during BF and you can pick up these games for $40-50 on eBay right now.

Don't pay Nintendo's nonsense MSRP prices. I usually wait a year or two for the games to go on sale even if it's like 20% which drives down used and even new eBay prices.

it's a good thing. YOu know how many shitty games and games I never even open that I end up buying just because they are cheap? That problem has been solved.

Yes the pricing is crazy, has been for a long time on new games in general it's why I use Gamepass.
But it's Nintendo so what can you do? They don't do PC ports so I'll pay what's needed to play their games. It is what it is.

A lot more people would have been fine with the increased price had they done either one of these.

1. Make the game save in the cartridge instead of the console like the older gen Nintendo consoles so we don't have to worry about having enough save data cause 256gb is pathetic for a 2025 console

2. If it doesn't save in the cartridge than the base console should have had at least twice the gb of what it has now. Cause once again 256gb is completely shitty.

Cause right now the price is incresed but u gonna worry about paying extra for memory because the base memory is completely pathetic and stupid especially for a 2025 console that cost hundreds. And a very expensive controller if you decide to get an extra one when it should have been 40 to 50 at most.

I'm probably in the minority but I would for different Reasons pay up to $120 Dollars for a Video Game developed by Nintendo:

1. Nintendo cares first and foremost about Fun and not political Agendas by creating Video Games.

2. Video Games by Nintendo have a really high quality Standard. They're not perfect, but they are far away from being unplayable like other Video Games released by other Publishers.

3. Nintendo treats his Employees with Respect. They don't need to Work Overtime, they get an appropriate Pay Check, and they've creative Freedom.

4. Nintendo always finds a way to be innovative with theire IP's and therefore Nintendo is bringing Fun in my House for more than 30 Years which also leads to great Memories.

I want to support a Company who cares about their Employees, who develops Fun and Quality gaming experiences, and a Company where I highly believe that they deserve my Money so that they are able to create even more Fun and Quality gaming experiences for me in the Future.

Thanks :)

As times go on, things become more expensive. It's called inflation.

Videogames are really good values especially when you compare to other entertainment.
