Yeah this is too far. Fuck Nintendo with a rusty spoon. $70 I can get since the rest of the industry has kinds moved in that direction but going upwards of $90 is insane, especially given that their games are basically treated like the Criterion Collection of video games.

I was pretty grossed out about them charging for res/frame rate boosts on Switch titles but this is just stupid. If console games have to cost $90 (on top of endless subscriptions for recurring revenue) for the thing to exist then development needs to be scaled back or something has to change with the business model because that isn't sustainable. The target should be to grow your audience and draw new people into the ecosystem, not milk existing customers even more.

US prices are 10 less compared to Euro prices. So an 80€ game in europe is an 70$ in the US. Reason im wondering if the Switch2 game is 80US then it must be 90Euro.
I see. Not too sure, as consoles are often similar in price, i.e. $399 = €399.

I do know EU pricing includes taxes, US pricing does not, correct?

Tax is not included on any pricing posted for the United Sates. Slap another 7% to 10% on those prices depending on what state you live in.

Fuck that price, I buy maybe 1-2 $70 games, that I know for SURE are bangers, a year as is. But I buy a shit-ton of games in the $29-$49 range, even if the quality isn't necessarily proven.

I must be in the minority, as the corpo's must have access to graphs that say this is the way to earn money. 🤷‍♂️

My opinion is that Mario Kart World will never sell 50+ million in a million years.

This is completely insane!

Everyone was expecting $70 to match the other consoles, but $90? That's delusional.

This is Nintendo being as arrogant as Sony with the PS3 era. Coming from a huge success, believing they are at the top of the world! But the fall hits harder!

At this time, I'm almost rooting for Xbox to make a comeback.

some switch 2 games will be priced at 80 dollars later it gets permanent 80 dollar for every single game . typical way of coroporate scamming customers .

Nintendo are as crazy as people who actually buy games at those prices. My usual retailer sells games on release day 10, if not 20€ cheaper than MSRP.

60 USD in 2005 is equivalent to 98.03 today. The gain of the 70 dollar increase got totally shredded by inflation.

Nintendo may be particularly egregious is breaking new ground with sub-PS4 fidelity games, but the market bought into Tears of The Kingdom at 70 dollars without a price increase to the tune of over 20 million copies, and it will sell 5-10 million more before it's done.

Game prices do have to increase as the workers are demanding and getting higher wages and the projects take longer due to "work-life balance"

I say yes, but it's also not just Nintendo. Prices are going up everywhere across all platforms. We've paid high price for console games before, but not a fan of it coming back, lol.

The market will speak soon, but I see Nintendo entering the cycle of failure again. We've seen this many times before. A hardware with no innovation, coming to market too late, with software that is being recycled to exhaustion and now overpriced.

Signs of arrogance everywhere, but as they would say, please get excited (and pay 90 euros for a casual game).

I don't quite understand the messaging here. These prices are clearly for working adults who have been growing up with Nintendo. Yet the presentation they gave seems to have been directed towards toddlers. Something doesn't add up.

Supposedly they Switch 2 had been ready for quite a while, but Nintendo was too hesistant to kill the Switch golden goose.

I think that will be a tactical error on their part.

Apple showed that its OK to cannibalize a product if you have a better one. The iPhone killed the iPod even when the iPod was selling like hotcakes.

Doom and gloom is written All over their console
80$ games plus many thing are behind pay walls , even the console demonstration mini game they want you to pay for it
They can fuck off
Nintendo every once in awhile has a flop and this will be one of them. They get too arrogant and like the smell of their own shit.

Too expensive.
Of course I'll be getting the bundle so I will be able to trick myself into believing I'm not paying $80 for this.....

Wasn't a fan when Sony came up with those stupid prices. Why would I be with Nintendo?
Totally in for MK, but I ain't gonna pay this price.

Well, imagine in Europe that it's 90 euros...

Most of their games aren't deep enough to deserve $79. Some may be deserving of $69....like DK and Metroid 4, but everything else is shovelware or ports (that includes Mario Kart)

I would have been fine with $70. That's basically where the industry has been for the last few years.

$80 is nuts though. And $90 for physical can fuck all the way off. Cmon Nintendo.

Mario kart is shovelware? Probably the worst take I've heard today and that's saying something
