My dude, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was released in 2017, and I think the cheapest I've ever seen it was $49.99 ($20 off MSRP). No way this is getting "heavily discounted" by Black Friday or even by Black Friday 2030.
I bought it new and sealed for 33€ here in Germany in 2019

$150 would be crazy.
$80 is about what you'd expect from a company in current day and age. They have to compensate somehow for inflation, tariffs, and general increase in costs of production.

Let's hope we can get digital games for a nice price on sites such as Eneba because I'm not paying 80 euros and I sure as hell won't pay 90 euros for hard copies.

Lmfao!!!!

I don't quite understand the messaging here. These prices are clearly for working adults who have been growing up with Nintendo. Yet the presentation they gave seems to have been directed towards toddlers. Something doesn't add up.
The working adults are the ones paying in both cases.

I was about to jump back to Nintendo hardware because the showcase looked great imo

But now I'll wait for more info. $90 for some games is ridiculous

This took me from Day One to possibly skipping the Switch 2 altogether.

I expected $70 games, but nah, I can't do $80 under any circumstances.

I don't mind if it's a game by game basis. But we know how idiotic and greedy some publishers will be once the floodgates open.

80 dollars is freaking insane. Idk how anyone could justify this price for games that look like they're from the ps4 era graphically.

It sucks of course. I am buying just a few games day one in a year so it doesn't matter so much when all is said and done.
Heck...2 cinema tickets and a bucket of popcorn left me 32 euros dry last week. 2 hour movie.
So considering I can have fun for 10-20-30 + hours and then sell/resell the game, it's fine.

Charging €80 for launch games on PS5 and Xbox was a rip-off, but on Nintendo, which never, ever applies price cuts, it's pure madness. Let's not forget that it's a console designed for kids...

👇90€ omg!

Young children and families make up a very large number of Nintendo customers. I'm pretty sure everyone I know with a young family has a Switch. The adults still have to buy the games anyway, regardless of if it's for them or their kids.

My sister got one for her kids last year. She won't be upgrading to the Switch 2 with these game prices. I don't think most families will.

I think Nintendo have made a mistake with these prices. In the current economic climate, most people will be put off. Look at the reactions here. A vast majority think it's crazy and we're a gaming forum. Imagine what the general public will make of it.

It's a weird gamble for sure. They've kept their development costs in check by releasing modest hardware. They could of set themselves apart by offering their software at a lower price than their competition on average, but went the opposite direction. I guess that's not terribly surprising with the $70 price tag TOTK launched at. Hopefully they introduce Game Vouchers for Switch 2 on the double.

Anyone expected less?
Oh, were you predicting this? Please show us a post from before the announcement where you predicted $80 Switch 2 first party games. Surely you're not one of those people who wait til after something is revealed and claim they knew it all along.

Never claimed anything, but it was expected that they gonna raise the price...

What's even the point of $80 prices when every few months Steam and the PlayStation Store have 50-70% discounts.

I say this as someone who wasn't as mad as the general consensus about games becoming $70. That made a lot of sense to me as games were becoming bigger in scope, remained stagnant in price for about 15 years, and also get what seems like faster discounts than in the past.

This however, is pretty crazy. Nintendo games seemingly NEVER go on sale and don't really push the envelope so to speak. Idk, it's Nintendo so people will buy it regardless but I would feel better if something like GTA 6 tried this, rather than Mario kart

Yes, it's ridiculous, especially since their games rarely go on sale. I guess they want more people to buy games through their voucher program.

This thing is not really aimed at little Johnny looking at the prices.. is this not considered a kid machine anymore.

I'm just being able to finally you comment on this and reading about the pricing on the games is absolutely absurd. Not only is Nintendo probably already making profit day one on the hardware, then they up the price on retail games. On top of that, the announcement direct was one of the most disappointing things I've seen. I know the Nintendo fans will suck it up with a biscuit but that had to be one of the most underwhelming reveals I've ever seen. It's the same thing we've been getting the last generations. Ports and four third-party games that have already been out on other systems on top of the same Nintendo exclusives.

I know the Nintendo fans will suck it up

This belief that Nintendo consoles will sell no matter what is unfounded. Nintendo has had some of the biggest failed consoles put of anyone - N64, GameCube and Wii U got creamed by the competition.

They also had a console that was pretty much dead a week after launch in the Virtual Boy.

Gaming is an expensive hobby my friends. RTX cards, PS5 Pro, and yes even the Switch 2.

You should check out the release of the original NES in 1985 and adjust it for inflation, along with the games.

This hobby has always been expensive. Especially for new consoles and games.

Get a used one and used games if it's too expensive for you.

Unfortunately I do have some anecdotal first-hand knowledge of people legitimately sucking up anything no matter what. But $80 is a lot raising from prices that are already high and at least those games on PC or other platforms are pushing cutting Edge graphics. Nintendo is not.

Seems like this company just keeps getting greedier and I know that's already a stigma with them but damn.

I'm in the small minority that thanks Nintendo are right. The fans will pay so why not profit. Simple supply and demand. Milk the fans dry.

Yes. You're paying extra for the cover, basically.

If it's transferrable, it's still has advantages to digital. Long term preservation takes a hit in the reliance of Nintendo's digital store staying up. I don't see a big deal with a game like SF6 which has constant updates, but I do think most publishers will got his route as this cart is surely cheaper than whatever the traditional carts will end up costing.

Half of the game was calculated by the games itself since they came with actual hardware. This is just greed. All of them are greedy but this is some special kind of greed.
