the voice acting and dialogue are completely retarded so far. what happened to all the witty quips and humor that people were talking about?

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Guess I'll be picking this game up, last Sonic game I bought was Sonic Heroes.

Oh yeah, this game will have Sonic 1 right? Will Sonic 1 have its own set of trophies or no trophies at all?

I like how the intro kept things locked down and simple initially.

The Casino Night table is actually kind of fun. Classic and Modern Sonic both get different perks (Classic gets a Spindash that lets him change directions up to 3 times, Modern Sonic gets a boost that makes him roll faster). You can bounce up to an upper area, and tokens you've collected go into a slot machine. Get a Jackpot, and it can spew so many rings on the table there's actually a bit of slowdown. Collect 100 rings and you get another ball.

I'm not sure if it's pinball sim quality, I can't say, but it's pretty good all told.

People don't have good taste, that's what happened.

Seriously though, if the writing is anything like colors, it will be cringe worthy in my book.

I already watched all the cutscenes on Youtube so now I can skip skip skip and get right to the action!

I just couldn't do something like that, even if I don't think I'll care too much about the story.

I rather it be corny than super serious melodrama.

It has a saturday morning cartoon feel to it. outside of Baldy McNosehair i had no problems with colors

That's the thing, it doesn't have to be super serious. If they could reframe from cracking a stupid joke every other line, it would be ok.

It's a series about a talking blue hedgehog that runs really fast to beat an evil fat man. I don't mind the jokes.

NO!!!! I HATE ALL OF YOU

I CANT PLAY FOR ANOTHER 3 WEEKS FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Worst of all I have it pre-ordered, so I'll probably get my copy shipped just so I can goddamn stare at it.

man eff skool.

it shouldn't have to be one or the other

With Sega...yeah it does.

Look I rather the series be lighthearted than it to try to have epic sprawling stories, it just doesn't fit and this coming from a guy who loves SA2. Sonic's basic plot should be him stopping Eggmans plot to take over the world...the end and since Sonic is a wise talking asshole you should expect some wisecracking jokes that might fall flat often. I see Sonic as a similar guy to Spiderman slightly cocky and tells bad jokes...That fits better to me than Skaterbro Sonic.

Colors had the right feel with some slight execution problems. And with Sega there is no middle ground for some reason so I'll take that over 2006 shit.

Last sleep before Generations.

And I've been able to avoid all spoilers. Haven't listened to the soundtrack either.

AHHHHH HYPE

Modern Sky Sanctuary is weird. On one hand, it can be a little jank. On the other, there's been virtually nothing like it in 3D Sonic that I can recall. The way it just slides alternate paths in without really broadcasting them, still blending them together naturally, it's much closer to Sonic 2D level design than the 3D games have managed before.

I don't want to hype it up too much, it's just very different, in a good way.

Updated the OP with Reviews. Lowest score I've seen is 7.0. I'm gonna guess the Metacritic score to hit at 78 or higher overall.

Picked up Uncharted 3, and just decided to rent Sonic Generations 360 since the PC version wont hit until the 4th for some reason.

So, can anyone here who now has the game confirm for me the framerate? Locked 30? Minimum 30 but attempts to get up to 60? Struggles for 30?

I really, really want to get it for PS3 for the trophies, but my computer can run Battlefield 3 on all High at 60-80fps, I'm sure it could kick the shit out of Sonic and make it look beautiful, and run a consistent 60fps. But the allure of the trophies is so heavy :( I got the Platinum on Sonic Unleashed and was quite proud of it.

Locked at 30 for consoles, no one knows about the PC version, but it should be unlocked.

Beat Metal Sonic for
an Emerald
, then went back and tried Hard Mode. It didn't change the number of hits it took, but his attack patterns were either faster or longer, and I had less time to hit him after each one. In fact, he might even "float" further away than usual so it's harder to reach him to hit.

Playing on 360, the framerate seems like a solid 30 to me so far. Doesn't struggle outside of the pinball table thing I mentioned, and that's a side mini-game.

The cinemas are a bit compressed, but I hear they're like that on the PS3 version as well.

I think you're misunderstanding me. I don't mind humor. I just don't like 'try-hard-over-the-top' humor. I think the classic games were the perfect mix. There were subtile things such as knux getting knocked off the piller in Launch Base Zone, and watching Robotnik fly away from Sonic, grimacing, while he's all burnt up. I think that underlying humor is much better than forcing it down the players throat, but I wouldn't even mind corny jokes if they were used sparingly. But like you said in a later post, Sega has a hard time with the middle ground these days...

I have Omochao on because there are points where I'll invariably need him, but one thing that nags me is that he really doesn't give the player any time to figure out things, every step of the way he immediately tells you the solution. "Do this Sonic! Now do this!" I'm playing the
Death Egg Robot
battle, and he just gives you the answers, at least for the second half.

But you can turn him off from the start, it's my fault for having him on.

Edit: Oh god the music goes thrash metal, and it's so good.

Metacritic is strange. A "B" translates to a 75?

What in the world. Was a gallon of Robitussin drunk before this was composed?

Robotnictussin sure. Dunno what happened with Bioware since thats not even GBA or GB quality.

Where did you read that? First I've heard of such a thing.

I'm asking if it changed to the way it used to be in the classic titles, since in the demos had you only lose a few rings when hit. No big deal if not, but just wanted to see if any actual gameplay changed happened between demo and retail.

Also, think anyone will do a seperate PC version review?

Ah, well ah friend of mine has watched some playthroughs on youtube and it doesn't sound like you lose all your rings when hit, but he said it has to be that way, otherwise people who don't play Sonic normally would be murdered in the later levels XD. The levels sound pretty punishing the way he describes them. So it's probably a good thing otherwise there would probably be lower scores from reviewers for "Difficulty spikes"

There should be a moratorium on posting Chronicles music. We know it was crap, and the new game just came out, we don't need to "celebrate" that unfortunate chapter.

Speed Highway Act 1 was complicated was interesting. Went to start Act 2, and it offered to show me a tutorial for
the Lightspeed Dash
. Darn it, Sonic Team, I thought you almost made a Sonic game without it. :/

Teknoman said:
Havent had the chance to play the game yet, but do you actually lose all your rings when hit in the retail version?

Not always, but usually a big chunk or majority of them. With a decent amount of rings, you tend to have about two hits before the next one will kill you, as far as I played.

lol that'll never happen. Even Colors found a way....though I guess Sonic 4 counts.

Reading the last few pages, can I ask what's so bad/horrible about the 3DS version?

I mean it looked nice in pictures and videos. I saw some complaining about Classic Sonic using dash (which I don''t mind :p)..after that haven't been following much; so..anything went wrong?

Complaints that Modern Sonic stages were too empty/straightforward.

Also this is the best Sonic Cartoon:

Speed Highway Modern starts pretty much exactly like the DC version did, hnnnng...

For starters, every Act 1 for the Genesis stages is just a direct port of the original stage, except no miniboss for Sonic 3. It's so direct that in Mushroom Hill there was a checkpoint right before a loop and then the stage's end. Like literally nowhere to die, because there's no boss.

It's actually improved drastically since it was first shown, but it's clearly a game that needs time to be properly finished, not pushed out the door to match the console version.
