Sonic Generations |OT| What Sonic can learn from Sonic

That song is unlockable in the game!
GOOD! How about good ol' Rooftop Run? Let me guess, there's a remixed version in it's place ;_;
Also, as "sub-par" as Unleashed was. The day themes in the game are outstanding.

As far as I know, no Rooftop Run original song. Remix is actually nice though.

Yeah, as much as I didn't like Unleashed, there were a lot of aspects I like about it. Including the art direction and the music. So good.

Oh, well as long as its a decent remix, I'm sure I'll be happy.
I have no idea why but Crimson Carnival Day theme sounds so familiar...

and worthy of replacing the horrible Spagonia Rooftop Run song
Yes, how dare that lovely piano and lively violin work in concert to produce an upbeat, uplifting piece well suited to a high speed action game. Clearly unthinkable.

Goddamnit, laptops/desktops using optimus technology (meaning it switches between a powerful GPU and a shitty GPU depending on what you are doing) won't be able to start the game at all because it keeps detecting the shitty GPU. There's no workaround at the moment, so I'm fucked.

I wish the game didn't have so many little loading screens. From the title menu to the hub world, switching Sonics... if they could have figured out some little transitions for these they could have done the game (or at least the hub world) without overt loading screens, and that would have been sweet.

It's designed almost just like Sonic Colors, which managed to mask its loading with transitional art sliding around - but the Wii assets are much smaller than all these HD textures.

To be fair, I have it installed (360) and the various little loads are very brief so it doesn't really matter much... but I think we're just seeing the limits of the current systems and their ram. The graphics in the game /are/ very lush with a ton of different textures.

Only up to Seaside Hill so far, man that level is pretty glitchy with Modern Sonic :/

Speed Highway, on the other hand, is just perfect.

Speed Highway modern was amazing imho. Seaside Hill modern was disappointing and all of a sudden I got a shitload of pitfalls and other bullshit. Have not played Classic seaside yet.

Worst stage I played yet has to be classic City Escape though.

Oh...hows the voice acting in this...tolerable?
And does Sonic have his old voice actor back or did the new guy change it up?
Amy is intolerable and Classic Tails is a bit too squeaky, but the rest of the voice acting is pretty good. Sonic is still voiced by Smith and sounds pretty close to his acting in Colors, so not bad.

Alright thanks. Just from the QL he sounded closer to SA...but hey, whatever.

Yeah, this is my first time hearing all the new voices outside of Sonic & Tails.

Everybody's pretty good and sounds appropriate outside of Amy, as you noted.

Cream in particular is spectacularly improved over the 4Kids VA.

I came for the classic stages but I'm staying for the modern. They're much better, I was surprised.

Rented this for 360 and I'm going to purchase the pc version before the end of the year. I think the game looks fantastic now, and I can't wait to see it in 1080p.

This might not work but can you start something that will kick the powerful GPU on? Like another game? Then alt+tab and start up Sonic?

That's a shitty scenario either way but it's worth a shot.

Fuck you Crisis City. You are this game Asteroid Coaster aren't you. A shitty level in an otherwise decent game.

I can't really fathom people disliking it. I think it's absolutely gorgeous.

Aha! This time-consuming week is finally over! Now to finally beat the game~

The Metal Harbor music for Chemical Plant Modern is almost appropriate because there are a TON of paths and shortcuts. Having said that, has anyone had any success taking the left path at the beginning? Jump off the main pipe onto the one at the left and try it out. It looks like a huge shortcut and it's nearly impossible!

I got this game the other day...and so far I have mixed feelings.

First off, a bit of background. I recently played Sonic Mega Collection over the summer and I realized, I've never been that good at classic Sonic, but the controls for classic in this game feel very slippery. That being said, I definitely enjoy the classic segments more. There are a few bothersome points...Classic City Escape, in particular. For example, there's the part with the truck where you have to jump off platforms...you have no time to recover if it hits you, and it's very disorientating your first time through. Also after the first part where you get the skateboard I hit a wall, and instead of it dissapearing and me continuing on foot, it bounced me backwards and I had to slowly wait as Sonic moved up the incline. Eventually I hit a wall and was bounced back forwards, but it was one of quite a couple moments I've run into that show a lack of polish.

I've never played any Modern games before this, skipping Unleashed and Colors, although I feel like I might enjoy the latter more based on videos I've watched compared to Generations, so I have no clue what I'm doing for most Modern levels. I think it may be my controller, but I keep finding myself randomly being turned around, going into the spin-dash drift mode, and overall just having a mess of a time trying to keep control. The treasure hunting challenge in Sky Sanctuary with Knuckles was particularly aggravating, and it totally did not work with the Modern speed-based control style.

Apart from that, I like the game, and it's growing on me.

I'm up to the final boss, so far it's been an enjoyable game but after Sky Sanctuary I've been a touch disappointed. Modern Crisis City was a real shame, it started off great but they had to ruin it all with possibly the worst 2D segment found in any Sonic game (stomping is FUN!). Same with classic Rooftop Run, spoilt by an awful segment near the end.

There are also a lot of really odd glitches with the homing attack, boost, camera and semi-automated sections in the modern stages too, Egg Dragoon in particular was really problematic as homing attacks would never lock-on correctly and for some reason I couldn't move left or right without spamming quickstep.

Hey, so remember when Generations 3DS was touted to be a celebration of Sonic's handheld history? Yeah, no. Windmill Isle is apparently the last Generations 3DS stage.
What a lacklustre list.

Green Hill Zone, Casino Night Zone, Mushroom Hill Zone, Emerald Coast, Radical Highway, Windmill Isle and Tropical Resort. It's *almost* History of the First Stage material, with Casino Night being the outlier. The Japanese site hasn't updated to show those last two stages yet. I'll grab screens when it does. I thought it was going to update last night, but I guess I was wrong.

Still going to invest in the 3DS version because I want to see how different it is from the HD version. Plus the music selection oughta be neat, since it has this. :D

in the background. FUCK. This game is so good! So many nice touches through out! Definitely gonna get the 3DS version now. Has anyone figured out what the statue room is all about?

No shit. I wouldn't expect a PC like that to run into issues (though running SLI immediately suggests to me that the person isn't as susceptible to noticing framerate issues).

All S ranks for the acts obtained, though there was much annoyance in modern Crisis City where I kept suffering some rather unjust demises, usually due to a malfunctioning homing attack. To top it off I got through the stage without dying for my S rank or so I thought, turns out if you die before the first checkpoint so that you restart at the stage beginning with the timer starting at zero it still counts as a death for that run so you HAVE to use the retry option in the pause menu, this meant I had to go and essentially S rank the stage twice and before you ask why I was dying before the first checkpoint, well that very first trio of enemies over the pit just weren't complying with my homing attack.

So the lesson here is if you're going for an S rank ensure that you always use the retry stage option if you screw up even if your screw up starts you from the beginning of the stage and timer anyway. (or just don't die, better lesson!)

I believe Colors did that as well, it makes absolutely no design sense.

Another similar gripe is that retrying a stage takes a life away, i'm not sure I understand that logic, if they were worried of people abusing the option to save lives than it can only effectively work before the first checkpoint, bizarre stuff really.

Someone already cracked it. SEGA Japan's SonicGen site said they were going to post passwords or something from the gist of what they said on the site, but someone's already cracked it. If you want the full list, I'll post it here.

You just input them and then your room will get a statue for every passcode you input.

Its a fun game for sure, but I feel kind of fucked with my console version. With this, BF3 and other recently released great games its just becoming ridiculous now.

Case in point; I saw Sonic Generations in action on a high end PC. It played like it should; high framerate and the inputs were about spot-on. More and more I'm thinking about a return to PC gaming.
