Sonic Generations |OT| What Sonic can learn from Sonic

Hmm, still can't quite figure out the final boss. Been trying to get that last achievement for about 2 hours now. I can't see what the trick to catching up to him is...he always seems like he's faster than me.

On the side view stay in the orange "tracks" that are headed toward the boss. It took me ages to realise they weren't just pretty effects, typically the blue tracks slow you down and orange tracks speed you up. Boost into the orange tracks and eventually you'll make it in.

Among the many reasons Planet Wisp was terrible, the fact that the aesthetics in Act 1 were wasted by being inside for 70% of the stage was one of the worst.

It could have been way better.

Has SEGA publically announced that there will be DLC? If do, can anyone link me to such an announcement?

The idea of more stages coming makes me drool but I'd rather not get my hopes up.

Challenges are probably the best, though. Modern Sonic's "use your skills to reach the goal" was pretty neat.

Several reviews have mentioned it, Gametrailers among them, plus Casino Night is already DLC. Whether they'll actually make new stages, turn Stardust Speedway and Final Rush into full-fledged levels or just release some extra challenges like with Unleashed no one knows.

:(

I dont think they do since when you get hit in a rival battle, you dont land on your back, and you dont have the ability to use shields. It seems to have to work with the constraints of the battle.

I present to you another new fastest time for speed highway :D

this is a clean run without glitching the run down building area

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Phew. Just got 58.xx on Green Hill Classic going for the "under 1 minute" achievement.

Spent damn near an hour or more figuring the perfect route through that bitch. Kept getting times of 1:00:3x and raging. But man every possible millisecond counts and it felt amazing during that final stretch knowing I was finally gonna nail it.

I really hope they don't release extra challenges like Unleashed. The Unleashed DLC was alright but we already have 10 challenges per stage here; there's no point in adding more. That being said, there are places on the hub map where at least one new challenge stage per level would be able to fit:

Green Hill
Sky Sanctuary
Speed Highway
City Escape
Seaside Hill - 2
Crisis City
Rooftop Run
Planet Wisp

The most suspicious of the lot being the Planet Wisp rising platform to a dead end. You literally can't get to any other part of the hub from there, it's just a platform that raises you to an alcove with nothing in it.

Stardust Speedway and Final Rush I guess I'd be okay with. It'd mean yet ANOTHER City/Highway stage, though.

since they have the assets I would be willing to buy "act 3" dlc, some modern some classic depending which stages work better with who.

More challenges (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

I want them to patch in music select for time attacks, or just replace all stage music with SUPER SONIC RACING

They could probably use the assets from the Egg Dragoon fight to do Eggmanland as well. It'd probably take more work than it would Stardust Speedway or Final Rush, but it'd at least round out the three eras, and aside from Planet Wisp, the game is kinda lacking in factory levels.

Tried it, that doesn't seem to do anything.

I'll come back to it in a month or two, maybe I'll get it then. No sense in letting it keep pissing me off.

Okay this Final Boss is fucking stupid. I can't even figure out what I'm supposed to do.
Yeah.

Keep to 3D perspective, and keep boosting towards its pink core while evading his missiles. Only switch to 2D perspective when you need rings or if you find it easier from that perspective to attack. When you get close to his core, his hands will glow green, so just move up or down to get away from his smash attack and go back to getting at the core and hold until the cutaway scene that shows that the hit was registered.

No matter what, try to keep your ring count high. You just need to strike him three times. And don't worry when he slows down time either. Keep going. There will be times when he goes outside the vortex and there's nothing you can do about that. When that happens, try to keep gathering rings through the 2D or 3D perspective (whichever's easier for you). Use Classic Sonic to smash into the missiles or hand attacks.

Good luck.

EDIT: has anyone gotten the trophy for that boss fight? Any tips?

The boss always attacks in the same manner at the start so getting the first hit in is simply a matter of holding boost from the get go, avoid hand swipe by heading up, when you get close the clap attack will initiate so move up and then strike afterwards.
Of course that's the easy part, for the second hit you can either go for it in the side view which is faster but possibly trickier? Someone mentioned coloured streams that help or hinder you in the side view which would explain why one time I zoomed through at a higher speed but normally I just stick to Modern Sonic for the most part.
A big laser attack usually gets flung at you after you hit the boss twice, avoid it by switching from modern to classic. Aside from that you've just got to keep at it boosting like a madman and avoiding the homing attacks and hand swipes which are the only real threats to the trophy criteria, be wary of going for the core at the same time the boss goes for the homing projectiles because they sometimes sneak in and hit you from behind. And finally change the music to something awesome, my trophy was gained to the sounds of flying battery.

So are there levels in the full game that are better than the demo ones?
The Green Hill levels are pretty much the tutorial levels. The rest of the game is better (besides maybe Planet Wisp).

Everything else is better than Green Hill Zone from gameplay to aesthetics. Though, Green Hill Zone was beautifully done.

Holy FUCK. After like 20 tries of restarting right at the beginning, I finally nailed the S rank on a Rooftop Run Modern speedrun. S rank time is 2:50:00, and I got 2:49:48. Holy shit :lol :lol :lol My heart is racing. The final "run" was so fucking intense. I love this level so much.

Thanks! :) I didn't think it had a discernable pattern, but then again, I didn't think to look for one.
Is side view really faster? I stayed in mostly behind-the-back perspective, and I felt that went faster than the side view. And I ended up changing the tune to Sonic Boom. Much much better... other than the friends saying the same things ad nauseam, lol

I just read a few pages back that you got the plat. I was considering getting the plat for this too (it seems to take a shorter time than Tales of Xillia's, so I'll put that game down for a little bit.

Was it quite difficult, or no? I S-Ranked a lot of stuff already, so I'd imagine that S-Ranking the other stuff wouldn't be too bad. I have a tiny bit of Red Rings to find again (in Planet Wisp), but after that, I'm golden for the Red Rings. Do the S-ranks in the challenges count towards the S-rank trophy, or is it just "all acts"?

I'm going to attempt the Walk on Water one again in a bit. That one drove me a little nuts the other day so I hope I get it tonight.

Absolutely. Green Hill is more of a tutorial level than anything else. I don't like to use that level as a good way to judge the rest of the game, personally.

*shrug* Many parts of this game just make me feel really happy and puts me in a good mood.

Walk on water was a laugh, I went for that one quite early and it was driving me nuts as well but having mastered that route through Chemical Plant feels glorious.
As for difficulty, it's not that bad at all. S ranks don't require you to go all out like a speed run, really you just got to go through a stage without dying at a standard pace, fortunately S ranks trophy is for acts only so no need to go through every mission for them. Most of the other hidden trophies you'll get as you go for the rings since many are in fact tied to red rings. All collectables and skills come with the completion of missions and red ring collecting so it's not too bad at all.

So I finally got the "Can't Touch This!" Achievement.

But there's still one locked.

Turns out Planet Wisp Restored didn't unlock when it should have.

Fuck, now I gotta play the whole game over again.

Finally finished loading this up in Steam and played through the first six stages, and a half dozen challenge levels. Well worth the $25 so far, and a huge nostalgia trip. I only wish my eyes didn't hurt so bad, or I'd play more. :(

DAT MEGADRIVE BOX!

While I love the LE, why do the press kits always get much cooler gear, and this doesn't look like it would cost much more either.

Stupid lucky press getting all buttered up... butter up some fans instead!

Why was that megadrive tee-shirt box not in the LE :|

Yeeeeah, finally got Walk on Water. :D

I just need to get some of the S-Ranks in some of the later levels and it's all peachy. I've noticed that some of the hidden trophies are tied to red rings, so that isn't too bad. I'm going to try for the final boss one last.

Final Boss, need help:
Alright, so when I need to push left and right bumpers to smash the fireball... well I don't have a right and left bumper. I have a "a" and "g" key (using a keyboard) which are suppose to be l and r bumper. Trouble is, holding those two keys down did nothing, I still get pushed back and the fight doesn't end.

I'm hoping for a mod that makes Knuckles playable

Also the mod should be called "Lock-On Technology"

The problem with the fallout from the post-Saturn pre-Unleashed era is that people didn't look at WHY other playable characters were bad in those instances (compulsory, ill-fitting playstyles, shoehorned into what the games liked to call plot) and instead just went the "no shitty friends, Sonic only" route. Sure, it makes sense to scale back the plots and cast and go for something purely Sonic focused as the main game after how bloated and unwieldy all that shit was getting, but there's no harm in others being unlockable extras or whatever.

I'd like to see entirely optional alternate playable characters who're basically just tweaked versions of Sonic (different speed/jump attributes, abilities that allow them to access areas of the stage that the others can't/as easily) return to the series. Maybe have them unlock once the game's been cleared with Sonic as a means of increasing replayability given the game's short length.

Shadow, Silver and Metal Sonic probably wouldn't be that hard for them to port into playable characters.

I'd probably cut Silver out and make Shadow modern and Metal Sonic classic as era specific DLC characters. I can't say I'm a fan of Silver, and he doesn't have quite as useful animations as the other two have.
