I also feel Miiverse actually kills the social aspect of the Wii U only because you have to go into it specifically to send a simple message to someone which requires loading screens, and it's totally inefficient. So yeah, they made something where random people can converse easier or draw pictures, but for your friends specifically, it's cumbersome for simple back and forth messaging. Let's not forget how bad the load times were initially on the system before they patched it a few months later. It seems all the people on my friendlist have like abandoned the social aspects of the system and I'm sure that could have been avoided.
... For me, the only thing the console has going for it are Nintendo games and Off TV play, and even then, there aren't that many Nintendo games on it at the current moment and the eShop is severely lacking.
The load times are still slow to me despite the patches. I don't think you were reading the thread at the time, but I ended up buying a Wii U for $250 on a deal but what I'd gotten was a launch Wii U Deluxe since no one had really bought a Wii U system from that store. That meant I was sitting there for a looooong time trying to patch the entire OS on my system, which is bonkers. I do wish they'd waited a little so they could put everything on there and in the box so I wouldn't have to do that, but well, I think they released the system for Black Friday and I guess they wanted those sales no matter what.
The system really needs software, and I think it needs to push some of its eShop WiiWare equivalent games more for the ddp stuff as opposed to Nintendo's digital downloads (ie: the stuff you can buy disc versions of two weeks later). Granted, there will be software for it in the coming months, but as of now, it's disappointing that it seemed like there was a long drought for launch owners up until now. And even then, some of the games don't seem to appeal to everyone.
Miiverse seems like a neat thing, and it's clearly there for one thing (ie: for members of communities to exchange messages and/or pictures or ask for help from one another a la a regular message board). But like you said, it takes a while to send messages to people you've befriended on the network and you're more than likely going to use it for screencaps or writing random stuff on community boards than anything else. More like a sense of "detached posting" as opposed to fostering a community mentality at this point, I think.
I've already said my piece on the screenshots. When you get them from Miiverse, you get a 800px × 450px JPEG image, so I guess that's the only solution to my issue.
I know you're probably going to agree with me that you wished 3D World had online co-op, too. There are a lot of games that I wished had online co-op, simply for the sake of my friends who I'd like to play games aren't locally available. On that front, I feel like Nintendo dropped the ball. I know lag and other aspects might be an issue, but when a game seems to be focused on multiplayer in a sense, it's disappointing that you're going to neglect one of the larger aspects of a game simply because you aren't in a position where local MP is fostered.
I wish it had folders so I can put the programs that aren't available in my country into one so I don't have to keep looking at them. I tried Hulu Plus yesterday and my Wii U locked up because it didn't realize it wasn't available in Canada.
With that said, I haven't spent a loooong time with my Wii U enough yet to form an accurate opinion of it. I do like off-TV play. I like off-TV play a lot. I don't like that I can't be in another room for it (I've tried it; my Wii U doesn't like it), but for being on my bed or something, it's fine. I like the software I've tried so far, but I feel like I lucked out in that respect since I didn't own the console at launch and waited for impressions from other people as to what to get.
I don't dislike the system, but I do feel like the ball was dropped in some instances, and and improvements are required to unlock the potential of the system in terms of social aspects, its account system, the game selection, and the eShop.
Getting a soundtrack on the level of Unleashed is reason enough for a sequel.
Oh, yeah. Especially for new geographical areas and different types of music. Would've been really neato.
I could've sworn I told you guys I got a 3DS about 2 weeks ago. Well, in case I didn't:
Guys, I got a 3DS. An XL, to be specific.
I still don't think you're the real Beef. The real Beef would have never gotten a 3DS.
So yeah, that's it with me. Glad to be back!
Welcome back. I saw you playing Fire Emblem: Awakening a lot. I suspect that you might not think it's as great as everyone else does like Noi and I think, right?
