In speaking of RPGs, am I the only one that prefers them short? Like 20-30 hours short? Anything longer and I kind of lose my interest. How the hell did I make it to the true final boss of ToTA? Ugh
Anywhwere between 15-30 hours for the main quest I can handle, if it goes beyond then it better be one of the best JRPG games i've ever played.

I actually own all of the mainline DKC games. By that I mean 1-3 SNES and Returns. Never owned the GB/GBA ones.
I'll never quite get the whole owning games but not playing them angle.

I started DKC2 a few weeks ago.

Ehhh.

Id rather go back to SMW-era Mario where you didnt have to collect junk, just beat the stages.

(Mario Advance 2 adding in worthless princess coins to collect was awful.)
Actually you still had the issue of beating certain stages multiple times to unlock other stages, sometimes with the hidden exit placed right near the regular exit on a stage you'd rather not replay (hello Valley of Bowser 2) so maybe SMB3 era as what you actually want.

Nocturnowl hates all DK games, just look at his avatar!

I used to respect Nocturnowl, but this heel turn just doesn't suit him at all!
this turn is almost as good as Tatanka's heel turn which I know Beef loved.

Soundtrack's great, no complaint there. Rest of the game just really isn't turning out to be my cup of tea. Level variety seems kinda weird, too.

Okay Seven, i'll respect you for that.
Honestly I didn't figure you'd like it much coming off your reaction to the first game.
But define kind of weird regarding level variety, we talking gimmicks or stage themes?

3 is kinda worse about that, even if I do love it. 2, I dunno, I just found the levels a bit more consistent and less all over the place since they somehow tied it into pirates.

Stage themes, mainly. Seems like a majority of the levels are in dreary looking swamps or wrecked ships. I do appreciate the stuff like the honeycomb levels, though. It's more of a minor annoyance, and not really a knock against the game.

Awww, that's the best part of the theming, lovely moody stages, it's a perfect contrast to the first game given that you're now in the enemies territory.

Eh, I'd say that falls under exploration more than collecting. Some of the hidden exits could be a bit dumb, but it's not quite the same as having to actively collect stuff in order to progress in the game. The most collecting that you did in OG SMW was the dragon coins, and that was just for a per-stage 1-up bonus rather than GOTTA COLLECT THEM ALL like Advance 2 turned them into.

It does kind of work on that level, I suppose. I guess I enjoyed the DK Isle aesthetic a bit more.

I will say that that one volcano theme is damned fantastic.

Skipped Earthbound tonight for a different goal, which was achieved at long last: Sticker Star completed, finally.

The final boss...
Okay, no, I just could not be bothered, at that point, to find the weakness for Bowser. Or more to the point, find four or five weaknesses to each phase, because you have to do all of them at once, and not abusing the weaknesses is basically throwing in the towel. Thanks, Nintendo. More to the point, thanks, IGN, for making that bearable.

So now it's on to either Luigi's Mansion 2 (never played one of these before) or Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage? (played the demo, liked it). Started the former for now; seems pretty cool, although something about it makes me think it'd be better as a console game.

There IS a demo, as the PS3 version download is a demo + unlock key. I think it's just under those period where a demo isn't available to create an incentive for blind purchases.

I really didn't like Sticker Star because of this, all of the main bosses are just trial and error. If you don't go into them with the right items (which you have no way of knowing about before you get to the boss, and even when you do it isn't always clear) then you either have to quit, buy the items and do that whole level again to get there or the fight is going to be incredible difficult (if not impossible) and the game is going to chastise you afterwards for not doing it the way it wanted you to.
I mentioned this in the Sticker Star thread but apparently this is not a good reason to dislike the game and these are all ingenious puzzles.

And don't get me started on that river raft level where you are chased by a giant fish. That is probably the worst level in the entire Mario series.

Huh, I kinda had an idea about a survival horror game that kinda looked like that, only nowhere near as gory and with a bit of an RTS focus. You were gonna be a monster exterminator with a female sidekick tasked with taking down classic lit. monsters like Dracula and the Werewolf, kinda like the Van Helsing movie. I think it was called "Londontown" or something.

...they actually made a Classic Shadow? Why?

Does Capcom have the biggest talent bleed of any company ever?

Like with Platinum Games, Mikami, Kamiya and Inafune quickly made Capcom's curent output look bad.

When Sakaguchi or Yuji Naka parted off they didn't set the world on fire, as much as above did.

Capcom mangament really does suck huh.

SE's is pretty bad too. Lots of talent either departed or gone freelance since the XIII/XIV saga began, some even before that (Matsuno during XII).
