I hated 2 because the level design was so bland. Except for Music Plant... which was ironically the BEST level of the entire trilogy.

The level *design* was bad, but I enjoyed almost all of the trappings of the levels in 2. Music Plant was the standout, to be sure, but I'm also really fond of Techno Base. Can you imagine how nuts it would be if Techno Base had received the Sonic Generations treatment? It'd probably give Pac-Man CE DX a run for its money in terms of seizure inducement.

Yeah, Music Plant was awesome.

I would have probably bought Generations 3DS if they had put Music Plant in.

Generations 3DS should have been this (I have no idea what the levels should have been)

Classic Era (Game Gear):
Sonic the Hedgehog GG
Sonic Chaos
Sonic Triple Trouble

Advance Era (GBA):
Sonic Advance 1
Sonic Advance 2
Sonic Advance 3

Modern Era (DS):
Sonic Rush
Sonic Rush Adventure
Sonic Colors

I still need to get around to getting Generations 3DS, just for the hell of it, but the price never goes below $30 :/

What's a game gear? it was never part of Sonic's history.

Seriously though, those games weren't very good. I played the crap out of them back in the day, but they weren't that great.

They're still a part of the history though

SA 1 and 2(arguably), Sonic Heroes, Sonic 06, and half of Unleashed weren't so great either and they were represented in Generations :p

The handheld version should have had 9 zones represented completely by handhelds, and they just went for a dumbed down version of the console one with different levels, two zones missing, and one handheld title with the Rush level (and sorta the Colors one)

I still want to pick it up though when it eventually hits <$20

Sonic 2 MS would make for some cool Generations HD style Modern Sonic stages. As a Nintendo kid, the minecart and hang-gliding stages from that game made up most of my Sonic playing experience as a child, 'cause it was always that and Alex Kidd when visiting less fortunate Sega-owning friends and family.

They're still a part of the history though

Oh, absolutely. I wasn't implying they weren't. A better example would be 06. It sucked ass, but that's part of the history.

Triple Trouble wasn't good?!

It's certainly the best game gear Sonic game. That one has the best level design, but Sonic just doesn't work well on that system. There was just not enough power to get it to run smooth enough. It's slow and sluggish, which isn't really the games fault, however the other gg Sonic games suffered from bad level design on top of that though. So yeah, they were not good.

I played Triple Trouble on the 3DS, and it's ok. It's not bad, it's not exactly good... meh. Screen size is way too small. Music is really nice though... Sunset Park Act 3 is great

If that's the best of Sonic on Game Gear then Triple Trouble is where the Sonic GG purchases on 3DS stop. :p

Man, I never get the hate for Advance 2. It was such a fun little thrill ride to me! Love that game. Hell, my cartridge's label is faded at the top cause it was the only I had in my GBA for months.

It's very similar to other modern Sonic games for me. Learn the level layout. Learn the shortcuts. Get the best time. I love that style of Sonic games.

I totally want to do a Sonic fan game that's basically Sonic Generations but based on the portable history.

Techno Base had a very cool concept, I admit. I forgot if the level itself was bad or not. It was certainly better than the shitty level before it (Sky Canyon).

Tails Adventures is, personally, the best of Sonic on Game Gear. It doesn't play anything like the normal Sonic games (more of a stage-based Metroidvania where you're a relatively slow-moving Bomb Kirby, really), but I think it's much better for that.

I'll need to revisit it to be totally certain, of course, but from replaying it circa 2005 or so, it still holds up pretty well.

I liked Sonic Generations 3DS more than Rush.
Although that's a close one and I do appreciate Rush for introducing the first good Sonic character in a long time by that point.

Not a chance. Sonic Triple Trouble is still king.

I didn't enjoy Rush much. But I really did enjoyed of what I've played of Colors DS.

Pocket Adventure is pretty much Generations before Generations.

Eh, it was more like Sonic 1/2 remix, It's like Sonic 4 Episode 1/2 combined but as if it was a good game.

EDIT: And to further my point, both Sonic Pocket Adventure and Sonic 4 ripped off the same exact levels too! Green Hill, Aquatic Ruins, Casino Night, Metropolis, Sky Chase/Wing Fortress!

And now I've just realized Sonic 4 Episodes 1 and 2 are really Sonic Pocket Adventure HD

Eh, I enjoy how blatant Pocket Adventure is about it ("Green Hill Zone! Chemical Plant Zone!"). Sonic 4 does it lamely ("Hey guys, it's SPLASH Hill Zone! All new land for an all new Sonic adventure, right guys? Eh? Eh?!").

Edit: Oh wait, SthPA totally doesn't use the original names. :lol :lol :lol

Sonic Pocket Adventure was a bigger blatant ripoff than 4 was. But on the bright side, Pocket Adventure was the decent game and 4 is a pile of shit!

I want NGPC VC on 3DS mostly for Sonic. Anything else from the library is a bonus.

I doubt support will come anytime soon though :/

Ugh the time eater achievement in generations is flat out trolling from sega, it's a shitty boss fight to begin with and you have to do it without getting hit at all? if super sonic actually had a set rate of approach instead of feeling so damn random and being able to hit the core while eggman is in an attack animation it would be better, but fuck sake! It's the last cheevo I need for that game too.

I even had homing shots miss me, swoop around and strike me from behind without warning.

We can agree that Rush is the best handheld title right?

...right?

Certainly not. Sonic Rush Adventure is a lot better than it.

I like Sonic Advance 3 a lot. Not sure why there is so much dislike for it. Much better than 2. And probably rivals 1 in parts.

My 3yr old nephew has been playing Sonic Pocket Adventure recently (He likes that and Tetris GB). He can make it to the end of Neo South Island act 2 before he needs my help on Eggman. Awesome game. The inclusion of the jigsaw puzzle mini game is fun and encourages exploration. Should definitely make it's way to the 3DS VC at some point.

Hmmm... I shall concede that Rush generally has the better soundtrack. However Rush Adventure has waaaay better level design. Factor in the extra missions, bonus mini-levels and over all better presentation (story, over world etc), RA easily beats it.

It's... unfocused. The whole partner system only half works and is wildly unbalanced, level design is complex but lacks the sort of smart design that made that approach work for Sonic 3, the hubs are pointless, getting into special stages is a pain, and there's just very little that's memorable about the experience in a positive way.

Best music of the three, though.

The boat stuff was a big WTF to me. Traveling to different islands via Tornado would've been a better solution, IMO.

Or, you know, a world map

or hell, even just "hey you beat the level, now we're off STRAIGHT TO THE NEXT ONE YIPPY KI-YAY MUFUCKA", like the old ones

I was reminiscing on the Advance series with my friend not long ago. I... still kinda love Advance 3, and it is mostly the music. They all had some pretty questionable level design and ridiculous Special Stage requirements though.

But hey, let's all talk about how much Sonic Battle needs a sequel

Adv. 1's special stage requirement was no issue at all. Just find a big ass spring.

Adv. 2.....oh my fucking god. Find SEVEN hidden rings. In each act. Make it to the end of the act. Fail the special stage? Too bad, do it all over again.

And you had to do all of this with each character to fight the EX Boss.

And you didn't even mention Advance 3's requirements, where you had to get 10 hidden chao throughout the zone, then go back to levels to find keys, then find the spring in the hub.

It's like, what the hell man
It certainly did extend the length of the hasn't, though... >_>
