I guess my memory is a bit spotty because I do remember some of the gimmicky ones being fun like the one you guys mentioned. Mission Mode should also include 3D versions of special stages from older games as well.

I plan to add special stages to the game. And unlike the majority of the portable titles, none of them are tied to the stages. (I always thought that was dumb because it felt like an excuse to have only 7 zones in each title. ESPECIALLY Generations 3DS, ugh)

Yea, having to even access the special stages via Advance 2 was awful. Please please don't do that...=(

Well Advance 3 wasn't so hot either.

The advance games were absolutely ridiculous with the access method. 2's method alone made me hate the game more than Sonic 4, even if it was probably a better game itself.

I'm thinking Classic Sonic accesses it via getting 50 rings and hit a Chaos Emerald item box like in Triple Trouble. Does that sound good?

I'll figure something out for Modern Sonic.

Tell the player they'll have to finish the stage on the first try with 50+ rings, then collect all 5 EX Rings in one go so they can unlock hidden Chao they need to find to unlock the ability to boost, which they use to go off ramps found only on the highest route, and do 5 tricks before landing.

That way they'll be relieved when all they have to do is find a giant ring or something.

Those are correct. I also post video reviews here (just posted a new one for Halloween!), have a Tumblr over here, a tragically ugly and impractical personal website here, I post music here (or did, before my HDD problems), and am on Twitter.

Just... to, y'know, cover all the bases.

Sunset Hill tied with Cyber Track. Interesting... I'll post the results in a few.

By the way, is anyone interested in contributing to such a project? Survey aside.

I just saw that and laughed pretty hard.

Man, American politics >>>>>>>> Canadian politics.

Edit: Well, might as well post this anyway.

This is basically why I've always steered clear of them as well. A big pile with no context is just no fun to pick through. My own Sonic music dumps are guilty of it too, but I'd like to think I've always provided at least some of my own opinions to help avoid wasting people's time.
Well, I know what you're into and why you choose what you do through experience anyway, as your writeups in the Generations thread provided them anyway. At the end of the day, though, regardless of the 'category' that the music or game or character threads fall into, they end up blending together. I'm starting to get really tired of it. :/

I'm not sure how much longer I can last, I try to make my way through a fair amount of music threads, you better believe i'll accompany my choices with at least a bit of text and i'll try not overload on songs lest they get ignored as an intimidating list but it's getting tiring.
Most list threads are equally lacking, the OP needs to try and set the precedent, wallop out a great OP, give explanations, encourage others to do the same.

Still I have one more type of thread that puzzles me even further as of late, I do enjoy a good LTTP thread, key word there is good. As of late though you'll get one of the following...

- Lttp of a game that's not even 3 months old
- Lttp of a game the OP hasn't even played for 3 hours
Sentence long OP that say nothing like "so I just picked up this game for $8, it's okay so far, i've just done the tutorial, discuss"
WHAT THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO DISCUSS YOU BERK?!
Can't mention anything spoiler related, can't have a proper discussion about the game, I just don't get it.
I've made three LTTP threads to my knowledge, one for Chrono Trigger was in fact my first thread (you were there, that's for sure), so i'm no stranger to making the threads myself but bloody hell, at least finish the game or make an effort to explain why you felt the thread was necessary, maybe you have overwhelming praise to gush, maybe you're devouring crow, desperately needing help or willpower to push on or perhaps you're just there to complain. But just don't make it one sentence long and if the chosen game is recent well the OT's exist for a reason.
I now want to use the word "berk" daily. :D

Hey, you could discuss how the tutorial worked and if it worked well, I dunno. Anyway, I’ve noticed that with LTTP threads lately too. Really strange. But then if you made an LTTP thread like I did where you finished the game, you won’t have a lot to discuss because you ended up discussing a lot that people probably agree with.

I get not having an expansive OP to set an example if you don’t have the time to compile it, but it’s your thread and you have a reason to post it so show that you have a reason. If you’re making an LTTP thread, take the time to legitimize it at least.

It's really unfortunate that there's a good portion of Virtual Console/PS1 titles that won't see a digital release. A lot of PS1 games I'd like to get from PSN probably won't ever be available thanks to a myriad of problems (Megaman Legends has VA related contractual issues, No one at Konami seems to want to fix up Suikoden II's technical problems, Breath of Fire III's locked up because the company who helped localized it got bought out by some other company...) Thank god for PSP CFW and being able to rip my old PS1 discs.
Man, I remember thinking that Virtual Console and PS1 classics were going to be this amazing thing that would allow me to play games I'd never been able to play before in the past. LOL, no. Ridiculous.

It's funny how Konami doesn't want to fix the issues in GS2, but there are a bunch of people patching the game right now. The amount of technical issues in GS2 is astounding when you look at the stuff they've fixed.

I really shouldn't have been drinking when I saw that. In between the Fox News hilarity and that picture, this has been a hilarious night, to say the least.

I'm not even sure I'm going to make it to the Daily Show without spitting my drink out on my keyboard again, heh.

It's too bad that Sonic's not conceding Ohio City.

Edit: How the fuck is Fox News a thing?!

I'm hearing they're really salty that Obama won. lol

I'm more surprised Chaos Angel isn't doing so well. I mean, I suppose it's just a generic ruins stage when push comes to shove, but man that music. At least the techno stage is winning, that's another good choice (considering its superior SAdv2 incarnation is losing handily).

And as nice as Gimmick Mt. Zone is, I still prefer the aesthetics of Crystal Egg Zone. There's really no other Sonic stage like it.

Iizuka-san's wonderful story telling has been made famous through Sonic political pictures.

Not to mention other great things that happened during the election, but that's another topic, but yeah, more iizuka-san greatness being spread around :)

On the portable game poll I think I voted for:

Bridge Zone
Green Hills
Gigaopolis (almost voted Mecha GHZ)
Sunset Park
Yellow Desert (couldn't remember any other stages, really)
Polly Mountain
Secret Base (sweet music)
Music Plant (cooler premise than Hot Crater)
Cyber Track (of the two levels styled like this, Cyber Track is more memorable visually)
Huge Crisis (Act 1 is my favorite level besides Leaf Storm Act 1)
Coral Caves (this and Machine Labyrinth have my favorite music)
Asteroid Coaster (Act 1 is my favorite level from the DS version)

Meh, I don't care what everyone says, Ocean Base is the BEST ONE.

I mean, DAMN, dat music:

Jungle is fine too, yes.

Actually, I'm wondering if I should've voted for Sky Base. I can't call it an original concept anymore, considering the existence of Wing Fortress, Flying Battery, Sky Deck et al, but it's still pretty standout.

*raises hand*

I've only ever played Triple Trouble, like, twice, and Pocket Adventure.

Ocean Base does have damn good music. God I love Advance 3's soundtrack so much.

Seriously, Ocean Base's music is awesome and was it me or or was it so dramatic sounding? Not that it's a problem but it's something I've noticed when I first heard it. I guess that's part of the charm of the stage!

EDIT: 2 more people voted early this morning it seems. Sunset Hill just beat Cyber Track.

Lame.

Sunset Hill is like the most generic stage in Advance 3 (other than the ice stage). It's Green Hill, AT SUNSET! Original level donut steel

Yeah, I really don't wanna include Sunset Hill either. Not to mention it'll be pretty weird as a later stage. What I can do is have a mission in Bridge Zone that has a sunset background playing Green Sunset Hill's theme. That would be a nice compromise I think. The survey is not over yet though. Giving it like... 5 more days I think, but I might end it sooner since the submissions has slowed down a lot, I don't expect a submission after the 3rd or 4th day.

I was ultra-mega-super-deluxe-hyped for Heroes. That game turned out to be a piece of shit. Another Sonic game could've hyped me up again, make me hope they'd fixed their mistakes, but they decided to release Shadow instead, proving to me that they had no damn clue as to what made the series click.

2K6 ostensibly looked right. It was rather colorful, compared to Shadow's darker palette (stages like that cyber level notwithstanding). The early promos showed a wide, open world mostly devoid of bottomless pits, as well as cool features such as real-time day/night cycles. Plus, the promotional shots of Crisis City looked really good! However, this was the company that botched up Heroes and then thought Shadow was the way to go forward, so I was cautiously optimistic at best.

Then it turned out to somehow be worse than either Heroes or Shadow. I didn't get hyped for another Sonic game for a good while. Unleashed I looked into based on the post-release hype; Generations was the first game I bought on release day (or in advance of release day, thanks to Steam) in forever, and the first time I genuinely enjoyed what I was playing in a good while.

Yes. Heroes was one of my most hyped games of all time. Being about 11 at the time, I was going through my "Shadow is teh awesome" phase, and Team Chaotix blew my fucking mind, as Knuckles Chaotix and all the other Sonic games I missed as a kid fascinated me. Also, they were going to take full advantage of the Gamecube! It's not just an upgraded Dreamcast port!

Yeah... disappointing. I still had a great time with the game (I remember buying Mario Kart Double Dash JUST to get the Sonic Heroes demo and I loved the shit out of that), but it was no Sonic Adventure 2.

They followed it up with Shadow the Hedgehog. Yeah. Shadow phase was over by then, and I had no interest in even trying that. Critical response backed me up on that decision.

And theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen... Xbox 360 and PS3 came out...

I'm kinda curious as to why I even tried Shadow, despite knowing full well that I'd hate it. I mean, I was a GameStop employee (seasonal) at the time, and so I got to do that much-maligned-on-NeoGAF thing where I could take a copy of the game and play it scot-free before it was sold on shelves as new (although to my credit I tend to take decent care of my video games; I'm typically rather paranoid about it, even), and it was at the right time, so I guess I just wanted to confirm what I already knew. It should go without saying that I did.

Or why I rented 2K6, even if I wasn't the one who paid to do so.

Or why I rented Unleashed, although I ended up liking that one enough to put it on my Christmas list.

The sad thing is, I won't be able to rent any further games because Blockbuster pretty much doesn't exist. I mean, I guess there's Redbox, but I'm unfamiliar with their system.

I never played that Shadow game until last year. That game is honestly frustrating as hell to play and I seriously question ANYONE that actually find its a remotely decent game. I only got it for 4 bucks with free shipping, glad I didn't pay more than that.

...Not as bad as 06 though, oh god.

I'm pleased to say that Sonic Heroes was probably the worst Sonic game I bought with my money. So it looks like I've missed out on a lot of quality titles!
