I do wonder if the PS4 has DVR functionality (Torne/Nasne 2?) built in. As Xbone wants to bring people to the TV, Sony at its unveiling, wants to have its ecosystem to be connected everywhere. Since it has a decoder for Remote Play, could it function similar to a Slingbox for recorded or live TV?

I'm not quite sure if it has was reviewed well, but with Sony testing it out in certain markets, I think this can be huge if brought to the US supporting an assortment of tablets and smartphones.

Nah. Predictions are whack.

-Sizzle reel
-Knack live demo
-Jack Tretton "We love that you love us, gamers!"
-PS4 unveiled
-Devs talk PS4 awesome-ness "OMFG BUY THIS SHIT DAWG"
-Pricing and subscription talk
-Vita
-GAMES GAMES GAMES GAMES
-The Last Guardian
-Kojima demos MGSV
dodges projectiles from the audience for cutting Hayter
-Closing statements
-SURPRISE FINAL FANTASY XV MOTHER FUCKERS

They'll probably talk about DRM details after. No way they'll touch that shit during conference.

TRUTHFACT.
not really

Fixed

I think you guys are going to be disappointed if you think at least half an hour isn't going to be spent on PS3 stuff alone. I'm betting we won't see anything PS4 related for at least 45 minutes after kick off.

There will almost certainly be a indie. dev sizzle reel. Maybe even some announcements of some big indie. dev pickups like Broken Age or Torment.

You guys are forgetting about the Steam app for PS4.

I wish

Speaking of that and GopherD, didn't he make a real coy remark about Steam on PS4?

I'm so hyped for this conference!!!

I wish E3 was during the weekend so I could watch everything. :/

I hope:

- No DRM on PS4
- For Destiny to be good. I dont usually care much for sci-fi stuff but I love what I have seen of the concept art.
- PS4 399 (299 would be amazing like that clip for the Playstation 1 presentation - but thats a dream)
- GTA V for PS4. I dont care for PS4 exclusive, just on PS4 :P

All I can think of right now.

E3 is so close, yet so far.

Predictions:

  • Hype trailer/montage with some nice music.
  • Talk about the Vita and how they're more committed than ever to the device.
  • Less than 5 minutes of talk on a price drop, another montage plus a few announcements. Vita is not talked about for rest of show.
  • Shuhei takes the stage and few PS3 announcements, focusing on TLoU, GT6 and Beyond but then goes off script and talks about Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F and how he can't wait for it. He keeps going on and on about how much he loves Miku until security takes him away.
  • Jack takes the stage, makes a joke nobody laughs at and after 5 minutes of him being a total dick actually decides to unveil the actual hardware, some more nice music and another montage.
  • Cerny takes the stage and talks about Knack for a while. Confirmed as launch date
  • Introduces his great friend Yu Suzuki who comes on stage to talk about the legacy of Shenmue for all the young whippersnappers who have no clue who this weird looking old guy is. Shenmue 1/2 HD announced as PS4 exclusive. Teaser for 3. 3 never gets released after 1/2 HD bombas.
  • Bungie takes the stage and talks about Destiny with some orgasmic live gameplay.
  • Montage of already announced indie games and how important they are to Sony.
  • Notch shows up and Minecraft announced for both PS4 and Vita (the Vita part not announced until after the show is over).
  • KZ, Infamous, Drive Club announced as launch games.
  • Blake Griffin and some 2K guy take the stage and they play some 2K. Exclusive content blah blah blah.
  • Ready at Dawn's new game. Looks great.
  • PS Home replaed for PS4 with some kind of LBP home crossover, all your content carries over. This will take 15 minutes to announce.
  • The Witcher 3 announced as a PS4 console exclusive. Looks great.
  • Naughty Dog's new PS4 game. It looks amazing, game of the show etc. 2500 jaws drop.
  • MM announces a new LBP game, its F2P.
  • Shuhei having finally escaped security comes back on stage and talks about how games get lost in developer hell but its important to keep sticking with projects if they are worth making. It's rambling and literally makes no sense until the following stuff happens.
  • Ueda takes the stage TLG announced as a PS4 game for 2014.
  • SE announces FF14 is a day 1 PS4 release and then shows off FF15 (which is just Versus) as a PS4 exclusive.
  • Rockstar comes out announced Agent and exclusive next gen GTA5, better graphics and some social features showed off.
  • Jack takes the stage and thanks everybody, lights go out for a few seconds, then come back on, Kaz is on stage and all he says is 299 US dollars and October. Kaz drops the mic.

Clearly this is pretty reasonable.

Ummmmm....

EDIT: He said it had nothing to do with PS?

Yes, it has nothing to do with PS.

The funniest thing about this conference is that we're all hoping for games that have been announced years ago on an older platform.

Yes, it has nothing to do with PS.

That's a shame. Would make my jaw drop.

The funniest thing about this conference is that we're all hoping for games that have been announced years ago on an older platform.

Goes to show how respected those ideas or teams are. I think Versus is especially a bastion of hope for some fans due to what happened to Square post-FF XIII. It's from a time that's before that.

I think you guys are going to be disappointed if you think at least half an hour isn't going to be spent on PS3 stuff alone. I'm betting we won't see anything PS4 related for at least 45 minutes after kick off.

They may choose to release PS3 media, trailers, and gameplay after the conference. If the PS3 is mentioned it will be because of a price drop and them listing support for it.

I think they build to a finale with some ps4 release info similar to how they handled the vita. Andrew House comes out and spits game about release window. Not sure if they do price and risk MS undercutting them by $50 or something but yo... its going to be around 399 and releasing in November. "SHOCKER"

But the "one last thing" is a Zelda E3 2004 type slow reveal to a Last Guardian trailer with a early 2014 date.

I think Activision might want Destiny to be the last actual game since they always got that spot from MS so who knows.

I think I'm looking at this image differently than a lot of folks. I see a rectilinear solid in perspective, like this - not a front-on view...

Wow excellent. I never thought about that but I think that's clearly how it is oriented.

After the best press conference of all time Kaz Hirai appears on the stage:

"349... And, by the way,we started production 5 months ago, so you can get one from our online store... Now"

And not a single day have I stopped dreaming, waiting for this fantasy to become a reality.

This time, it's the real deal!

They're not going to waste that much time on PS3 stuff. They've already released the Puppeteer and Rain trailers, they even announced PS2 and DCUO, they're clearly pressed for time at the show.

Wow excellent. I never thought about that but I think that's clearly how it is oriented.

You can clearly see the influence from Crash Bandicoot.
Especially when they played it on the Vita via Gaikai.

I am getting the impression the PS4 is going to be kind of square and chunky. Not sure I would like that.

I hope they dont over design this thing. Just give me a slick black rectangular box. I dont care just dont make it ugly with a bunch of weird angles and vents all over.

Ok, now that it's Saturday and I have nothing better to do, I've been looking up E3 reactions from various conferences on YouTube. Just came across this one which gave me chills again like when I first saw it live on the stream back in 2005:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsX5YZhz8SY

It was literally the feeling of OMG WHAT!!! to BOOOOOOOO once Wada said they had no plans to remake it.

I have to work on Monday which sucks, but I can at least check out Sony's conference live via a stream later that evening. Looking forward to watching it with you all! :)

Is Knack a platformer? I don't really know what it is.

In Cernys words:
Mark Cerny said:
Over the years I’ve been involved in a number of character-based action titles – Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet & Clank – and with the gameplay of Knack, we’re trying to focus on the essential fun behind the action/platform gameplay. I’m hoping that we can make something that excites those that played the classic games back in the day, as well as something that attracts new fans to the genre.

During the game Knack also discovers that he has a skill (in other words, a knack!) that allows him to incorporate ice, metal and other substances into his body, giving him new abilities from level to level. The result is gameplay which is a little bit like Crash Bandicoot, and a little bit like Katamari Damacy, in that the Knack can get quite large indeed. There’s also a touch of God of War in there, in that there is an epic feel to the game in places.

Prediction:

- Starts 5 minutes late. "Please wait".

- LittleBigPlanet 3 announced by Sumo Digital. Has Move support. Coming this year.
- Montage with upcoming PS3 titles.
- Vita Price cut.
- Uncharted Golden Abyss sequel by Bend announced. Coming later this year.
- Montage with upcoming Vita games.
- Kaz is on stage.
- PS4 revealed. 3D look of the console. Controler and camera explained. UI/OS and policies explained. Prices for two different SKUs. $399~$459.

Here's my last minute advice for Sony even though I'm sure it's all set in stone:

1) Know your audience - Otherwise known as, 'don't pull a Microsoft!' The people that are going to tune in to E3 are, and have always been, the gamers. The viewer is the sort of person that's going to want to buy your console at launch, and spends a considerable amount of money on software throughout the year. People are too quick to try and justify dry delivery because it's apparently designed to 'please the shareholders' - well I say balls to that, if you want to ultimately please the shareholders then attract the gamers who will be spending their money to support your business.
In addition, I'm sure you've plans to attract the wider demographic with 'casual' software - whether it be motion controls or anything else, well I ask that you keep those things under wraps for now, because the sort of consumer that those things appeal to are not the same crowd who are watching E3 or will purchase your console in the console's infancy. Have your 'casual' software displayed on TV, on the talk shows and whatnot, when they're ready to release.

2) Be concise, no bullshit - If you're blocking used games, tell us you're blocking used games, if you're leaving it down to publishers, make that clear. Don't vaguely touch on things and then leave everybody asking for clarification and drawing the worst conclusions - obfuscating details shows disrespect towards your customers. Also, show the console and its price!

3) Don't get app happy - Apps are a neat feature, but they're just that, a feature - they don't deserve a significant focus. No one can deny that having things such as Netflix on their console isn't great, and combining social networking with games isn't a flawed idea, but to sit and watch people discuss this or bring on special guests just to essentially come on and wave is completely redundant. None of us are buying the console because it can run apps, many have other devices which can do all of those things just as well if not better. Apps do not excite us, or ignite our imaginations - and for every minute spent talking about an app is a minute lost which could be spent talking about a game.

4) Games, Games, Games! - Self-explanatory, no? Don't feel like you need to hold back - just drown us in amazing and new games. This is the first step of your business going forward, set the tone accordingly and you'll have a fan for life. We want variety; we want third party support, we want first party reveals, we want to see you cultivating those indies. And don't just tell us what's going on behind the scenes, actually show us the fruits of your labour - if there is an 'unprecedented partnership' then we want to see what that entails! Sony are unique in that, instead of appealing to larger demographics all at once with software that is marketable to masses, they have such a vast library of I.P to appeal specifically to pockets of consumers in a more intimate manner - so let's see something a bit different and a bit challenging to herald in the new generation.

5) Don't fuck it up - Don't bore us with endless business talk or with charts or with questionable CG trailers or concept videos featuring perfect looking people in perfect looking houses or with never-ending game demonstrations showing nothing particularly interesting (Call of Duty anyone?) or with awkward musical performances or with developers telling us about their games instead of showing us their games.

It's your game to lose right now Sony, and I think following recent events concerning Microsoft, you've got a lot of people hoping to justify your console as their platform of choice.

The PS4 stills really irritate me, because they're so familiar, but I can't place it at all. Those chrome 'arrows' on the piano, and the big exhaust style fan hole things. They're on something else I've seen.

SE obviosuly isn't the most together company, but can you blame them for not remaking FF VII?

I mean they seem to have a pretty agreeable art design and graphical style going there, but it would be so hard to recreate what is one of the most iconic and beloved games of all time on the PS3/4. Just think about the idea of voice-casting alone. They'd have to put a final, tangible voice to all those characters after all of these years (Advent Children doesn't count). There's no way they just release a remake with text, no VO. Not to mention they have to find a balance in redoing quests, deciding on what to change and keep in the battle system, etc. It would be very difficult.

Dumb question that has to be asked by a new NeoGafer:

If someone was going to go out and purchase a PS Vita possibly after the Sony E3 conference (assuming there is a price drop), should I get the only WiFi version or is it worth it to buy the 3G version?

If I purchase the 3G version do I have to pay a month 3G connection?

Don't get the 3G version, they've already canned it, so they'll never use it's 3G feature for anything meaningful.

You don't have to pay for the 3G. I suggest you get the WiFi model. No game makes use of the 3G.

Oh I completely agree with you! It was just nice to find that vid. It's amazing how much the industry has changed since that conference happened.

Stay away from the 3G model. It costs way more over a feature that you never use. Take the WiFi model instead.
