Sony's conference is becoming much more interesting. With CBOAT's post we now have more leaked info on the MS conference. But Sony? Well, there's Final Fantasy and a Destiny demo. I can't remember an E3 conference ever being as locked down as what Sony is doing this year. But I still get the feeling that something is going to leak. It's just hard to believe that they can keep everything this quiet with the exception of what we ready know for a fact (FF and Destiny).

Friends, I have a request. I've been saving it up for a long time for the right moment, and I think that time has come.

Somebody please convert this to an appropriate E3 .gif.

Lord, I just know I'm going to have customers telling me that Xbox One has all these exclusives and such. Already had several telling me Ghosts wasn't going to be on PS4 before I informed them otherwise.

It actually demonstrated to me that this sort of thing could work with those less in the know on these things.

I hope it doesn't at this point. We're only 22 hours away and people are going to be focused on the other pressers in 13 hours leading up to Sony's show. The fact that they've kept it so tight-lipped has me really excited for what they're going to show. I can't wait.

Microsoft will be paying devs not to mention PS4 versions at E3.
If you do not hear them say "EXCLUSIVE" or "FIRST ON", then it WILL be coming on the PS4 most likely DAY and DATE.
You will most likely get this from half of the titles at Microsoft's event.

That is.....very petty of Microsoft.

Just to throw this out there, it was famousmortimer that first threw out the idea that MS was trying to pay third party devs to not talk about the PS4 versions of their game. You know what he also said? That at last check Sony had backed off from using DRM.

Yep. He said it was 2 weeks ago from when he posted that. Which lines it up with it being a proper reaction after MS got blown the fuck up when they announced it at the Xbone reveal event.

yup, and it's not surprising at all.

So MS was the one to approach 3rd parties with all this DRM and not the other way around. Makes MS look even worse and gives me hope that Sony will not follow them given it wasn't 3rd party pressure that started this DRM path to hell MS is on.

It would be a sad day if a DRM platform succeeded because of something like that. I never was invested in sales or anything, but I'm gonna be honest, I don't really want the Xbox One to do well, at all. They need to learn a very big lesson. Sadly, with a Marketing juggernaut like Microsoft, I don't know if it'll be easy for consumers to say no.

So Activison seem to crazy about the DRM and MS is the one that brought it up?

This is crazy.

So MS' cloud is a Trojan horse for DRM (which we already knew) and they plan to make it even more restrictive and shitty over time (which we suspected).

A Trojan horse to sneak in another Trojan horse.

This is why I cannot buy the console, and why I couldn't buy the PS4 if Sony pull the same shit.

Fortunately, seems things aren't headed in that direction. Or there will be buckets of tears.

They certainly might be able to pull it off. But it still seems impossible at this point. How can they possibly keep from having even one major thing from leaking out of their conference? Everything is so controlled from them at the moment.

Oh, and this also lines up with what famousmortimer said. He mentioned that both Sony and MS were looking to do it as a way of making more money. But that Sony at least check had back away from it. And if it was their idea it'd be much easier for them to back away than if it were third party publishers putting the pressure on them.

Do we actually know whether FF is a complete exclusive?

I don't think so. I think that line of thinking comes from the XV=Versus for PS4 theory, and since the original plan was for PS3 exclusivity, then surely the finished product must be also.

I disagree, though. If they're doing away with the subtitle and changing generations, then I expect any platform allegiances to fall by the wayside as well. If XV is announced, I'm sure it'll be multiplat.

Now it's plainly obvious that Microsoft approached publishers with DRM, maybe people will stop blindly assuming Sony will do the same. Publishers aren't pushing the industry towards DRM, it was Microsoft.

I've been doing my best to keep those customers who aren't as informed about what's going on with the system. Some don't seem to care and only care about the games and what not, though some have shown surprise at what I've told them.

I think if anything happens to dampen sales, it will be after the console is out and selling with the possibility of people running into problems due to MS' policies.

Activision doesn't seem to like DRM too much

"What we've tried to do is to really support our audiences and, you know, when you talk to players, they like the idea of having a currency. They like the idea of being able to take a game they no longer want to play and use it to get a credit to buy new games." We can't argue with that, and doubt EA would either, but it's a simple matter of economics: Retailers are cutting the game companies out of that second-hand sale. "We can do some of these things that EA and others have done," Kotick said. "We actually don't think its in the best interest of the gamer, and so we've chosen not to."

Instead, Activision's made some serious profits off of downloadable map packs for its Call of Duty titles. "From a financial perspective you look at it and say, 'Okay, well the retailer is not paying us anything for the privilege of doing it and you know we invest all this capital in making a game and we are not getting any credit, any return on their resale of the game,' but, you know something, the best way to keep people engaged in your game experience is keep giving them more great content."

They get a lot of hate, but their heart really does seem to be in the right place as far as DRM goes.

Might be a random question, and I don't remember how it went last year, but is there a length already stated for each of the E3 conferences tomorrow?

Dunno. The fact that Sony has been quiet on the DRM topic to date pretty much makes me think they are gonna have an equal system or maybe something that's 90% as crappy. They would of spoken by now if they weren't going with a similar approach.

For what its worth my friends are all going PS4 and I've seen multiple people trading in their 360s, but of course this is a very small sample size.

At the end of the day I think we have to remember that PS3 had a horrible launch but still managed to outsell the 360 by the end of the cycle, while launching a year later. At a respectable price with a good games lineup I fully expect Sony to lead in sales moving forward.

So CBOAT confirm Microsoft is paying pubs/devs to keep multiplatform versions of PS4 games a secret. These little assholes are really going to be playing hardball this year.

Keep informed, GAFers. Always make note of when they say exclusive or not, so we can be informed. Don't let their misinformation campaign catch on.

reading between the lines of the rumors it would appear that sony in a sense rescued versus from development hell so there's a decent shot at it being exclusive

no idea for sure of course but i think there will in general be a lot more defacto exclusives on ps4 with xbone basically saying fuck japan, we've been seeing it the past year on ps3 with games like dragon crown, kingdom hearts and ffx hd remix etc.

Well, the going rumor is that Sony is helping out with Versus. If Sony is involved in the development, it won't be multiplat. But we all know Square loves that multiplat cash, so who knows...

I kind of hope it's exclusive, if only because it looks like Microsoft is out for blood with third party exclusive agreements and Sony's gotta have something to counter it. FF has always been associated with PS since VII, so it certainly makes sense.
