I agree with this. TLOU is probably in my top five games of all time. Sometimes I put it as number one, but that fluctuates... and TLOU2 is superior in gameplay in just about every way possible. Now, the reason I loved TLOU wasn't because of its gameplay.. I felt it was sufficient. It certainly worked to Naughty Dog's strengths over Uncharted. But I actually love TLOU2's gameplay.

Ghost of Tsushima does not have good cinematic presentation. It has an extremely forgettable story with forgettable performances and character models with most of the conversations following the same format with a few epic moments sprinkled around the game.

What ghost does have though is great combat mechanics that are second to none in this oversaturation of Assassins Creed - eqsue oopen world games. It's tight, polished, and satisfying.

New doom games are so underrated imo... And Wolfensteins story is something else. Gameplay is also a challenging and tons of fun!

Last guardian is a masterpiece.

Sure, it could have been sold better and differently, but people also don't buy those games enough, then come crying here we get always the same gameplay. I bought it. How many people did here ? Not many I think.

Same thing for Death Stranding in a way. I bought it, didn't like it that much, I thought it was a bit boring, but at least it tried something different.

I kinda want to give Wolfenstein (2009) another go. I got motion sick/nauseous playing the first one (well, first being 2009)... and I'm not sure why. That hasn't happened since GoldenEye.

Maybe it was the FOV? I wonder if they made some changes to that for consoles. :/

I just bought a PS5 after not owning a Sony system since PS1. Playing LOU2, GOT, GOW and others for the first time, and Im realizing how much Ive been missing out. Their exclusives are something special.

Basically Xbox for shooters and multiplayer, Sony for epic single player. This gen, gamers really should aim to get both systems.

even if the first game's gameplay wasn't the best, it still had many people coming back for more with it's multiplayer that is still well and alive 7 years later as we all wait for factions 2. if the game didn't have good gameplay idk why that would be the case.

i do agree that the first game's gameplay while being "just good enough" wasn't the strength of the game. Whereas in tlou2, it's a game that allows for many different approaches to encounters with the dynamic AI allowing for experimentation it's great. It also features some of the best level design and fluidity in the genre, with some great human-infected encounters.

Tlou2 has better gameplay over uncharted by far imo they really did step it up from the first game in allowing it to be more expansive and replayable in it's gameplay.

I know its multiplayer is popular, but I've tried it. I put a pretty good amount of time in it. It's... okay. I don't like it as much as something like a Gears of War (any of them).

I don't know if that would change with TLOU2. I think the gameplay works for the sandbox/environment they put you in with the singleplayer, but for me personally I don't think it makes a fun multiplayer (again, I know that's a difference of opinion, so just from my perspective). With TLOU2's multiplayer component/stand alone release not out yet, I'm not judging it yet, but that's just how I see things now. I'll still likely give the multiplayer a try unless it's a full price release or something.

As another example, I love Cyberpunk 2077. I know that's a hot topic right now. But CDPR is supposedly working on a multiplayer component. I'm sure that'll find a fanbase, but it's something I don't really see working out too well because the gameplay in the game doesn't seem well suited for that. But I'll still try it out. With that said, I think Cyberpunk has pretty good gameplay in the actual game. Just not really confident it'll work out as well in multiplayer.

If it's about who makes the biggest proportion of mediocre games, I guess Microsoft wins, you can make the thread if you want.

Sony must do a lot of things right to trigger you so much and so many people in this thread too. I guess awards do have a point if it makes so many people react. That's a bit weird though, I don't know about you but I don't spend my life in threads about things I don't like. That would be a very sad life.

Yeh I agree... But if you don't market it. The people that need to be marketed to to play a game won't buy it.

Death Stranding is one of the most memorable experiences I've had on PS4... Take from that what you will. Better than GOT and Horizon imo. But I guess people wanna play the same games over and over again just with different skins. Ubisoft clearly influence way more than people give them credit for.

Not going to lie, I'd give 2017 to Horizon as well. Sony's diversity and variety of offerings is insanely unmatched.

You see nintendo till this day is riding the mario and zelda wave.
N64 had amazing first party titles that was never matched ever since.

And you can see that sony is always trying to come up with new ips so you ger the sequels but you get all these new ones like ghost and spiderman horizon etc etc.

This os why they are above the competition cuz they try to take risks with detroid and death stranding etc and for that i applaude them . Even if some of those titles are average at best they keep pushing and pushing amd you go from uncharted one that was painfull to uncharted 2 that was a master piece . Or from heavy rain to detroid.

At least sony tries to inovate and experiment where as nintendo wants to play it safe and xbox ...well gamepass is cool and hope they keep their promise with the new ips they develop but they have a long history of dropping games that flop like hot shit or just flat out cancel projects for some reason. Not to be trusted so far but please i hope they prove me wrong

Yes, absolutely fucking yes. They are indeed the best gaming publisher and have been more consistent in reaching these heights than any other company for at least the past half a decade.

You can feel otherwise, and claim X or Y company is better - but it's not going to have as a solid claim than Sony.

Whatever it is, you and me both know that is isnt Microsoft. Or Bethesda. Or EA.

Riding the Mario and Zelda wave? LMFAO Nintendo play it safe? They made the first hybrid console in the modern era, completely transformed one of their strongest IPs with breath of the Wild... Ring fit adventure, Labo, Mario kart Live, Amiibo - none of the that is safe imo. Not saying Sony don't take risks but they are relatively within the confines of the medium... Nintendo pushes the boundaries of what videogames are. They always have. They have far stepped out the shadow of the N64.... Please...
 
Sony occasionally has a really unique game I will remember for generations to come (The Last Guardian) mixed in with a lot of games I find really fun to play but forget about the next week (Spiderman). They have a lot of studios and most of them are top quality. After their improvements this past gen I'd say they are probably the best publisher right now.

To go along with this, I think Nintendo is positioned to be even stronger now that they've combined their home console and mobile console divisions into one with the Switch and I really hope they keep to that sort of design for future consoles.

Honestly? All three major console makers (Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft) are in really strong positions for this next decade. Nintendo has a close place for me because they still view video games as toys and I don't know... something about that is really wholesome. They look at their hardware in that way as well.

It is like sonys go to ip till this day would be crash or wipeout of final fantasy and thats it.

I admit for a young audience or just to get into gaming nintendo is the gateway drug.

I would never let my child play fortnite and shit but i would buy her any nintendo product without a doubt.

Does new ip mean new ideas? Cause i don't see it. I guess you like playing the same old gameplay in a different universe?
 
Sony and Nintendo have been the most consistent publishers the last 6-8 years. Both have put out so many fantastic games. And both should be proud of this. I haven't loved all the games from both, but can see the consistent quality.

Sony is clearly about to go to the next level.... Come on Nintendo show us what you are doing next!

To me yes.
New ideas mean new genres new ways of entertainment as well as targeting all age groups.

Sony had eyetoy way before kinect.
Sony had ps move way before wii
Sony has psvr though virtua boy was prior.

Then we have sony funding or publishing new ips that turn into new genres such is the case with demon souls that established the future of fromsoftware and created the souls born genre which saw many versions from nioh to surge ever since.

Did sony create the survivor horror genre that was made popular with resident evil or silent hill? I think it did even though it was on saturn as well.

Did sony skyrocket square with ff7 and became the jrpg machine for most if not all jrpgs with the psone?? I think it did.

You could say nintendo gives you the same ip in a different universe no?
Cuz no matter how i look at it sony till this day has a diverse library of ips and genres unlike xbox or nintendo.

From ico and last guardian to gravity rush to uncharted to open world semi rpgs and open world action to story telling games like detroid...sony has something for every interest.

To me nintendo is for kids xbox is for online shooters and sony is everything in between.

Also Every major ip of today started on playstation if you think about it.

Hell gta became the goldmine we know today with gta3 on the ps2 that was exclusive at the time.

I can honestly say sony made gaming mainstream and creates this multi billion dollar industry gaming is today.

Back then nintendo was still considered a toy for kids and pc was expensive or just not popular with people. Windows 95 changed that i guess but still sony is the one company that made gaming go mainstream
