although it's a massive problem for sony in terms of stock they must be thrilled to see so much desire and interest for the console,

its Probably expected but still.

Too late Sony you already pissed off alot of people and probably lost some customer to Xbox

I highly doubt it. As per usual people overreacting like crazy when the initial allocation of pre-orders went fast, despite there being 2 whole months prior to release, plus the inevitability of having stock to put on retail shelves for release day#1.

I hope to get another pre-order in once these go up. I wanted the Digital Edition more than the Physical Edition, so I would be very pleased if I could get that... Especially if I could get the pre-order through GameStop or Best Buy instead of fucking Amazon.

Is that sonys fault or more the retailers?

Retailers of course.

Sony has no control over when the pre-orders at various sites go live. Sony likely just provided the stock allocations to these retailers, had them under an NDA for price etc until it was revealed
and as soon as that info was available the retailers rushed to be one of the big names selling the PS5 first.

You can tell this by the fact that they didnt all go live the same moment. Sony did not dictate that they could go live only at a specific time, which was the issue
but I am not even sure if Sony can honestly control that- given that Sony has nothing to do with Best Buy, Amazon, Gamestop or Walmart's pre-selling schemes.

Sony didnt say "We said tomorrow but, hey retailers, go live in an hour and see how much of a shitshow it is". It was more likely Sony was going to
ask retailers to go live and they simply had no control over the situation, Once ONE GOES live of course the others want to get in on it, which makes no sense
but so be it.,

Can a mod change title to something indicating that sony have apologised. To make it more obvious they know they fucked it up

I'd say there are a lot of factors here. I have to wonder how many units they quote to retailers. Even if you give them a high number, that number will more than likely get reached relatively soon. Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Amazon, and etc were probably told they could do X amount of preorders and they jumped on it as soon as they could. Imagine the IPs flooding those sites. If I was a retailer I'd open the floodgates as soon as I could.

I had multiple tabs open to various sites and I ended up checking out on a mobile app. It felt great, but I can't imagine it being fun for someone waiting till the day after. I found out because of Geoff Keighley's Tweet about Target. It was a pain because my browser wasn't working on my Desktop. It had an error while I was in the shopping cart. The app solved that issue, but for a while I thought I was not going to succeed in preordering. The rhetoric around it can seriously suck. I'm just glad I have one preordered.

There is literally no smooth way to open up online pre-ordering. There is a finite number of consoles that will be gone within a few minutes. Websites crash and people get disappointed. It is what it fucking is.

That's great for them to address this issue versus staying silent and letting our imaginations run wild. As soon as the next round of preorders go live, I'm not playing by the rules. I'm getting one 😈....that's an empty threat. I'm not familiar with breaking the preorder rules.

Honestly I wish Sony or any of the big 3 wouldn't allow these multiple preorders.

I was hoping Sony would tie preorders down to a PSN account, so people cut down on this bullshit.

What a free for all that was.

When Keighley did that controller review and talked to that Sony exec, the exec said preorder dates would be announced early.

Looks like Sony turn the tap on asap (next day after the showcase) to get ahead of Xbox preorders the week after.

They waited for all the "Sold Out" headlines to come out first. Now they can release the rest of the units they were holding back.
it would have sold out regardless. people in the preorder threads were talking about being the 30000th in line. and that is for one store, in the uk. it's more about allocating stock where it's most needed

It's ok. The only good games that will be available at launch are current gen games. Get one after the holidays And let everyone else beta test the hardware for you.

This was a fake pre order thing to generate hype. They are making over 11 million consoles this quarter.
Exactly.

It's a big sold out problem, yet supposedly over 10 million consoles are being made by Q1 2021, which would be the biggest amount of consoles sold ever in 5 months.

Let's see what the availability is like by year end and quarter end 2021.

Stores need to redo their preorder system. There is no reason that anyone shouldn't be able to preorder past initial stock.

Sounds logical. And if anyone who scored one cancels, the next person in line gets a notification they now got it.

Instead, stores are doing the airline thing where they purposely overbook assuming enough people drop off so that 200th ticket sold for a 180 seat plane ride will end up getting one if their cancel algorithm worked and 20 people cancel.
