Sony to be conservative with its multiplatform releases in order to protect the value of the PS5 console

Well that's not stopped certain people begging them to follow Microsoft's strategy.

First they begged them to follow the day and date strategy for the subscription service, and now they are begging them to follow the PC day one strategy.

I wonder why.
Because the PS ecosystem sucks and they have uncomfortable controllers, but they make some good games sometimes.

PS5 and even the expensive PS5 Pro are worth enought the price. You can't buy a PC with the same price as a console, but even considering that, most people who likes to play on PC are not buying a console only based on specs.
I play on PC because it has the largest game library+emulation. Simple as.

Big win for the "I need to justfiy my 500 dollar plastic box purchase" bros.

Because PS hardware is dogshit and they have shit controllers, but they make some good games sometimes.

This tells me that either a) they are still collecting data on the net run rate benefit of releasing games on PC (I.e., does the profit associated with selling games on PC more than offset any negative economic results on the console side) or b) they have the data and have determined that caution is in order and they have to continue to slow roll things. It's business and all comes down to economics.

In the end, for me personally, it'll just mean that I continue to play the Sony games here and there that they release two years later on PC. I made a return a couple years ago to PC gaming (side note, ultra-wide gaming is amazing) after a nearly 2 decade hiatus and it was like coming home. I can't imagine playing games again on an under-powered console. I fully appreciate that it is a great solution for some (heck, was for me dating back to PS2 and OG Xbox eras) but it's no longer for me. I can wait or go without entirely.

Sony, I'm sure the shareholders wouldn't mind recouping a few hundred million by releasing GT7 on Steam. I mean, you can try to spitball lost PS5 sales by extrapolating stuff, but don't forget your fiduciary duty. Bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. Not to mention all we've heard PS5 players do is complain about not being able to afford the cars.

you can bet your ass that even if they don't advertise it (you know they will), the general gaming press will.

what can Sony do about it? lol, they're not lying, if they add Steam support to Series X/S anyone will be able to play Sony games on their Xbox.
True, for the games that's already been released. Moving forward though, they will most likely make changes to how they handle their 1st party titles going to PC.

Anything that comes on PC can be played on anything running Windows. If they want to stop this train they will have make the games exclusive to PS again.

Was inevitable with their PC sales trending sharply downward every new release due to the long delays, unmarketed shadow drops, and high prices for old catalog titles. Now that MS is making PC both their "Xbox" console and portable, I fully expect everything but live service games are completely off the table and will remain PS exclusives in perpetuity. Hopefully they let Nixxes buy themselves back independent, or reform as a new studio before Sony shuts them down.

From their point of view, understandable. But from my point of view, there isn't much interesting stuff on PS5 in the first place. I am actually more interested in ports of Wipeout and Motorstorm games. And maybe some PS4 titles.

For those who don't suffer from FOMO, this "conservative" positioning from Sony doesn't make the slightest difference.

Pretty much. In the last 10 years there's only been two Sony exclusives I personally felt after finishing them "you need to get a PlayStation to play this game". Bloodborne in 2015 and GoW in 2018. We're halfway through 2025 now. All other titles I felt were overrated or not good enough to get FOMO for. I personally don't plan on buying a console going forward into future gens.

Maybe in reality for anyone prepared to WindowsReverseWINE/Proton a SteamOS native released game, but Microsoft have kept DirectX HAL games from selling effectively on other platforms. So Sony producing its own SteamOS HAL for Vulkan that overlays perfectly with SteamOS Vulkan and make Windows peeps eat 50% rendering performance or do a reversal WINE with DirectX would effectively kill any marketing opportunity for PlayStation games on Windows, because they wouldn't be native and guaranteed to work without issues or at all.
