Sony WWS output thus far.

Seriously, this.

Does the OP care about critical reception or whether the game is fun to play. Because those are rarely the same thing for a lot of people.

Critical reception and how gameplay footage seems to.

It's Orochi. Same dude who shat up all those The Last of Us: Remastered threads with concern about the graphics. I also recall him doing the same in the Driveclub thread in regards to the visuals, of all things. Yet here we have a thread where he includes Driveclub in a list of games that focus too much on "style over substance." Not only that, but a game that hasn't even released yet is included.

OP:

From what I've read, the actual racing aspect of Driveclub is great fun. It's mostly the lack of content some people have had an issue with. You failed to include MLB: The Show and while you included an unreleased game because you can cite 'unfavorable' previews, you then also fail to acknowledge LBP3 and Resogun (which has been available since launch, mind you). But sure, keep on fighting that fight.

Resogun is not AAA. LBP3 does seem fun, but I've had my fill from the other 2 before it,
also it doesn't seem to be doing much that's new.

TLoU:R was a port with what I found to be infuriating graphical defects. My concerns there are valid.

I've loved the WWS output so far actually.

Killzone, best mp of any shooter still

Infamous : still hella fun to jump in and cause havoc for awhile. solid game, still the best looking open world game ever

Hohokum : wonderfully relaxing title. if i have a hard day at work i pop in this game, kick the soundtrack up to 11 and chill

DriveClub - if people get over their own hyperbole they would see the game got largely favorable reviews and gaffers have been raving about it in the OT. Sounds like its just simply a very solid racer with room to grow and expand, which it will before years end.

MLB : The Show - the best baseball game series ever made, solid opening showing on the PS4

TLOU : Remastered - who woudn't want to play this one again? Best game to release this year, still

LBP3 : probably the most content filled game ever released. Love the series, my daughter will go nuts for this

Knack : me and my daughter still pop this game in. fun game to just sit back and enjoy the challenge on Hard.

So yeh, opinions dude. All the above games had reviewers who loved the product.

Resogun is not AAA. LBP3 does seem fun, but I've had my fill from the other 2 before it,

Infuriating graphical defects? Are you serious?

Then why is there "props" to MS, when their "internal" effort is non-existent? Only Nintendo has had sterling internal effort so far.

I don't hold MS internal studios to the same standard as Sony's since Sony has been
at it for much longer than MS.

Ignore the internal studios part, focus on AAA exclusive output.

This sort of assistance happens all the time on third party exclusives. That doesn't alter the fact that they're third party games. I doubt Japan Studio is doing the heavy lifting here.

So Sony is publishing third party games now? Makes sense. I guess Sunset Overdrive, Scalebound and Killer Instinct are all third party games.

None of the first party releases from any of the big 3 have made me want to go next gen yet. Not sure if it's a Sony only problem.

So.... you haven't played it? This thread is gonna be great.

And lol at infuriating graphical defects. Don't know why I even bothered.

Weird I remember playing TitanFall on Origin with my PC. I must be crazy.
Me too. Played it for free as part of the 48 hour deal @1080p 60fps. Or maybe you and I hallucinated and did not see Titanfall...hmm.

Exactly..you still do it even without pay. Impressive really
Hey man, don't knock a fella down. A retweet from Phil Spencer with a smiley is all the pay one needs.

Do we have to go back to that lame second party term then? Because they're not first party titles. Calling them first party would make the term meaningless.

No, that's silly. That's like calling Titanfall a joint effort because of the game's reliance on Microsoft's cloud servers and the Microsoft engineers that enabled all that. Unless it comes out that Japan Studio was designing levels and producing assets, then it's easy to assume they were mostly supporting the PS4 hardware, and that the bulk of the work was still From Software.

Titanfall can't run without Microsoft's cloud servers. Microsoft also provided assistance in getting EA running on Xbox One architecture.

They are paying for them btw

Most importantly to us, Microsoft priced it so that it’s far more affordable than other hosting options – their goal here is to get more awesome games, not to nickel-and-dime developers. So because of this, dedicated servers are much more of a realistic option for developers who don’t want to make compromises on their player experience, and it opens up a lot more things that we can do in an online game.

http://www.respawn.com/news/lets-talk-about-the-xbox-live-cloud/

But I do agree Bloodborne doesn't really count as WWS output because majority of the game seems like it will developed by From Software.

Bet you praise MK8

This. Except for TLOU, not one game first party in past year is a must have in my book.

However, I did not buy a Ps4 for that, I bought it as the best place to play multiplayer games in native resolution. (hello ubisoft).

I don't mind if it's get locked or if I get juniored. I just need to vent how disappointing
Sony's WWS has been to me :/
How about a ban for trolling? You've just admitted you haven't played at least some of the games you want to discuss. This is a bannable behaviour because you're lying about having an opinion.

No it's not. Microsoft did not do any sort of production work for Titanfall. Sony Japan is producing Bloodborne.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/06/10/bloodborne-coming-exclusively-to-ps4-in-2015-new-details/

I am here to talk about a new Action RPG, Bloodborne, which will launch early 2015 exclusively for the PlayStation 4 console. Bloodborne is a new collaboration for us, being developed by FromSoftware and produced by SCE Japan Studio.

Titanfall can't run without Microsoft's cloud servers. Microsoft also provided assistance in getting EA running on Xbox One architecture.

Titanfall is on PC and 360 and the IP is owned by EA. If we use this example, any game using Amazon Web Services could be considered a joint effort between Amazon and that developer/publisher. Do you think that that makes any sort of sense?

So basically: when a game gets disappointing reviews it's Sony fucking up and when they do get great reviews (as with Resogun or The Last of Us) you're reaching for straws like graphical defects (what?) and games not being AAA (why does that even matter, a good game is a good game)?

Oh please. EA also said Simcity cant be played offline. Titanfall isn't some magic game that needs cloudz to run. The game would have existed without Microsoft's moneyhat or cloudz. EA just decided that if Microsoft is crazy enough to pay so much money to keep it off PS4, they would happily take it.

I'm curious Orochi, what would you want out of Sony WWS?

I think the problem is Sony's WWS hasn't put out games I'd have overwhelming interest in
like an RPG, JRPG or a new God of War.

Bloodborne is my most anticipated title right now, but not sure of anything else after that :/

How about a ban for trolling? You've just admitted you haven't played at least some of the games you want to discuss. This is a bannable behaviour because you're lying about having an opinion.

I've played everything listed in the OP with the exception of The Order and Sunset.

Everything else I've spent with at least 2-3 hours :/

This has become fucking ridiculous.

You are more willing to play Xbox One exclusives because they're on a console from a company that hasn't been "at it" for a while? 13 years in the games business clearly isn't enough time.

The shill is strong with this one. I'm out.

I'm not worried as I play multiplatform games more than exclusives, but I have to admit Sony's output has been pretty mediocre in my opinion. Based gift from god Bloodborne will redeem them tho. YOU ALL KNOW THIS.

It's about what nintendo did for the Wii U in the first 10 months (NSMBU, Pikmin 3, TW101, Nintendoland)

I agree that Sonys exclusives have been massively disappointing so far - at least for my personal tatse.
It's actually the only reason I haven't purchased a PS4 yet - I know I'll get one eventually for the superior multiplats but for now MS are providing me with enough quality exclusives to keep me occupied.

It's the general consensus that Sony had the superior exclusives last gen though so I'm sure the situation will improve.

I have two questions. Firstly, what are MS doing that's new? So far I've seen a racer, an open world racer, a hack and slash and a whole pile of recycled 360 kinetic games just to name a few. I can't even see any innovation in sunset overdrive as far as doing new things so I'd like to know what they are doing that Sony isn't to your mind, I'm trying to see it but I can't.

Secondly, I'd love to know what your idea of graphical defects are?

Titanfall? Horizon 2? Sunset?

You know what all these games seemingly have in common? Great gameplay.

You know what those games don't have in common? Being First Party Microsoft titles. Two of those are third party exclusives and not even owned by Microsoft (Titanfall and Sunset).

Microsoft seems to have scored some good third party exclusives. The only first party titles released thus far that have a 80+ metacritic score is Forza Horizon 2 from what I can gather from a quick cross-search between Wikipedia's Xbox One game list and metacritic. I would've counted Forza 5 in there, as I thought it was above 80, but it's somehow dropped to 79. Everything else is about on par with WWS releases.

Neither Microsoft or Sony are really bringing it from a First Party point of view in my opinion.

Edit: Oh! I guess Microsoft owns Minecraft now, or rather as soon as the deal is done. I guess that counts as it's sitting at a 88 metacritic on Xbox One, but it's also on pretty much everything else so it's not an exclusive.

RPG and JRPG?

When was the last time Sony released an RPG?
Even on the JRPG front, Sony's not very consistent. There was WKC and DS.
And GoW? We've had a game last year. GoW games have 3 year dev cycles. You'd be waiting till 2016.

If WWS had released a JRPG/WRPG or another GoW I'd be complaining that they hadn't released games I like, since none of those genres have any real interest to me - so far as I'm concerned that list of yours is dull & uninspiring.

Instead I've been kept very entertained by Sony's output for the PS4 and generally happy with what's been delivered in Year 1 both quantity & quality - especially the indie & small game stuff.

I don't hold MS internal studios to the same standard as Sony's since Sony has been

I'm confused. We constantly hear about Microsoft's warchest and how Sony is broke. Why would you lower the standards for them just because they entered the console market a few years later?

While Sunset Overdrive is not an internally developed Microsoft Studios game, it is considered by Phil Spencer to be a first party Microsoft title because they pay for the game.

It's a game created by an independent studio as a work for hire project and MS foots the bill.

How much Microsoft is involved and how much creative freedom Insomniac has are of course up for debate because we can't know this, but it's not the same as Titanfall which EA greenlit.

Do we have to go back to that lame second party term then? Because they're not first party titles. Calling them first party would make the term meaningless.

It's not meaningless you are just using it wrong. It's a term used to refer to publishers. A game is first party if the platform holder publishes it. Period. Whether they own the studio who creates it or contract out to an independent developer. The latest Smash bros 3DS was developed by Namco. Are you going to all that a third party game?

Can someone explain to me the logic behind a how game receiving mostly praise and positive reviews equates to the game being bad because of a few less positive or negative reviews? I don't get it.

Neither WKC nor DS were done by WWS. The best JRPG IMO that was produced on the PS3 was Valkyria Chronicles and of course that was Sega. It's unfortunate that they're ignoring the market, but with the expansion of Sony into the western market, it makes sense.
