Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

Most comfortable way is to download the stuff you want via PC and copy it to the TV (or just read it from the USB).

And yeah, there's a plethora of emulators available for Android TV. Not all of them will run great on the TV due to processing power etc but I imagine stuff like SNES will run perfectly fine (have only used emulators on my Shield TV, it ran MHP3rd HD better than the PS3 lol)

On the Nvidia shield you can install chrome from Google Play on the web then u just open chrome with a sideload launcher Android TV app.

Guessing something similar can be done with the Sony. Your only issue is input. The shield's analogue stick is a mouse when using chrome to find Roms.

I also side load apks this way. Crazy how easy it is to open chrome on Android TV and Google any apk you want.

Yeah, I forgot to mention side loading :p
I use one of these tiny Keyboard/Mouse/Remote combos for sideloaded apps that have usability issues. Fantastic and not intrusive at all.

Now if only YT would update their stupid App. Their new TV layout has been live in the browser for atleast two months now and it's leaps and bounds beyond the native app. Also, HDR support. Sometimes I wonder what's going on there, you'd think they'd treat their own products with priority yet Samsung has received the update before ATV.

Damn. Mine came on Tuesday - love it. This is our lounge TV to replace a 4 year old 32". This one is like space age compared to that with the options / apps.

Not played with any settings yet. Was surprised by how good the sound was too but will still get a new soundbar soon. (old one doesn't match at all)

Thoroughly impressed with 4K / HDR anyway - looks great

I presume I don't need to do anything to turn on the HDR - it's just 'on'?

Yeah HDR will switch on for certain games and apps that support HDR, as not everything supports it

Upgrading to this once Boxing day sales are on (in NZ, it's like a 2nd Black Friday, and for a whole week).

49" version for me I think, I'm getting a Pro and FFXV at the same time, I have a feeling my eyes are in for a treat :)

Just played this combo this morning. It will not disappoint.

Just make sure you are hooking it up to port 2 or 3, and that you set your HDMI to "enhanced" in the settings.

Anyone notice a large delay in audio after hooking up a sound bar? No idea how to fix this

I picked up a 49" X800D yesterday, and I've got the same issue, with a Sony HT-XT1 soundbase. It's maybe a third of a second of delay. It happens with HDMI input signals passed through the TV to the soundbase, and happens with both HDMI ARC and optical.

It's super noticeable when playing a Wii U game that outputs the same audio to the screen and gamepad (navigating the NES Remix main menu is a good test), but I noticed it before I tried that, and it also happens with PS4 games (I can tell in Uncharted 4 by closely paying attention to the gunshot flash and sound).

I would just run everything through the soundbase (which results in no audio lag -- I checked), but it can't pass through the PS4's HDR signal.

Separately, I sometimes also get the smaller audio lag with the TV speakers alone mentioned earlier in the thread. Sometimes the TV speakers are perfectly in sync, and sometimes not. The soundbase is never in sync when passing through the TV.

Right now I'm feeling like returning this and waiting awhile longer for an affordable HDR TV with more solid hardware and software.

EDIT: And yeah, it's on the latest firmware (updated shortly after I hooked it up and before I noticed the audio issues). Also tried adjusting a bunch of the audio settings, such as turning off ClearAudio+, with no effect.

Dualshock 4 works great.

Emulators on this thing are a bit hit and miss. I'm not sure it has the power to drive something like a Super Nintendo emulator.

I don't use this TV for gaming (well xbox one but not Xbox One S)

So the 4k content I watch is on amazon and netflix.

Is there a way of knowing when you're watching HDR stuff? I've seen various screens of people showing their PS4 / XB1 acknowledging that the content is 4K.... but does the TV acknowledge it anywhere?

Thanks :)

The TV should switch automatically. So if you go into picture setting while HDR content should be playing, the pic mode will have switched to HDR video.

Anyone using Dualshock 4s on the TV, how do you switch the controller to use the PS4 by default? Everytime I press the PS button on the DS4 the TV goes into PS Now mode and my PS4 doesn't respond. Even connecting the controller to the PS4 via USB doesn't work.

Quickly got tired of it and took it out of the TV's Bluetooth devices list. lol

Same here, I guess you simply need two.

Using the 49" with an HT-XT1 as well.
I have my PS4 plugged directly into HDMI 3 and the soundbar is in HDMI 2. Originally I had the PS4 going into the soundbar's HDMI ports but after I switched it and turned off Clearaudio+ there is no longer a delay.

I did this because the HT-XT1 can't pass a full 10-bit HDR signal over it's HDMI ports, or at least mine wasn't, so after I plugged in the PS4 directly into the TV it worked.

Thanks for the info.

Do you mean that the soundbar is plugged into HDMI3? That's the ARC port. Or are you just using optical out from the TV to the soundbar?

You're right, sorry, I got them mixed up. Yes, soundbar is in HDMI 3 (ARC) and PS4 is in HDMI 2 on the TV itself. The soundbar is set to output 'TV' sound when I'm playing on the PS4 and with Clearaudio+ disabled the sound delay is gone.

Guys I just got this TV today and I'm having a weird issue. HDMI Port 3 is giving me issues. Sometimes when I load something up on it there's a ton of purple artifacts and rapid disconnects. This only happens with a 4k device, 1080p devices are always fine. Also, if I restart the TV after it happens the port works fine again, 4k/60fps/4:4:4 with no issues at all.

If it were happening all the time I'd just say it was a faulty port, but...yeah. Has anyone else gotten this?

I really had to fiddle with it to make it happen for me. Default look washed up and too bright. After fiddling tho....hoo boy Uncharted 4 looks mind blowing

Tell us what you did!
Because I think the HDR looks pretty bad anytime I enable it in a game. Everything is as you described..too bright and washed out.

Also..
I seem to keep finding things to love about my 930D. I went behind it to plug in an external HDD and found that they put a pocket right next to the side panel ports. It has to be designed specifically for a portable HDD. Took a picture of it.

I kinda winged it. I don't really remember and I'm traveling for work for most of the week...I'll post when I get back.

Sounds like a spotty cable, thats why you don't see drops at 1080p, cheers.

The 8000 is the best led tv for gaming in terms of pq and latency
Not at 43 inches.

The HDR for this TV is really great IMO based on the little experience I have with HDR TVs. FFXV and ratchet & clank looks amazing with HDR on IMO.

This is really great news. I'm so close to purchasing this 43" and upgrading from my 2014 1080p Bravia I got 2 years ago, but I've been worried that with CES 2017 so close the new announced TV's will be huge upgrades.

But for me right now I only can buy a TV at 40" give or take.

So, after spending a day with hdr, I'm confused with how inconsistent it seems to be.

Final Fantasy XV and Shadow Warrior 2 look fantastic with HDR. Having HDR on playing FF and then turning it off after an hour was a real wow moment.

Uncharted 4 and Gears of War 4 looked awful and completely washed out - Despite my TV settings being the same as the former games and despite any tweaks I attempted to make in the in-game settings.

Do you have to readjust your actual TV settings for every game or something?

How's the dse (dirty screen effect) on this tv for you guys. It doesn't seem too severe but noticible on nba 2k17 in hdr.

Any ways to fix or minimize the effect?

I did the YouTube dse test and it really highlighted the issue but I'm juts not sure what the acceptable ranges are.

I'm returning my Samsung 6 series for this Sony.

The lack of true HDR on the Samsung really bothered me.

Keep in mind brightness levels for this tv are essentially the same as the 6000 series albeit with slightly worse blacks. I speak praises about this tv, but the grass isn't necessarily always greener. This television does have superior HDR and color to the 6000 series but it also isn't full HDR10. If this television was able to hit 1000+ in brightness, the HDR would be more impressive than the KS8000 as it has a wider color gamut and triluminous display that covers more than the 8000. The shortcoming is just the 400 nits of brightness.

I ended up trying zoonami's 49 inch settings on my 43 VA variant and I quite liked them better than how it was before.

I was gutted to learn that the 43 inch variant has a VA panel but now I think I prefer it over the IPS variant.

Just a preference I suppose.

Have not tried GOW, but the HDR implementation in UC4 is not that great. In spots, it is quite good, but in some scenes, it is borderline washed out and it is not great.

In short, yes, HDR is mastered by the game dev, so right now it is a bit of a learning curve where they will learn some best practice, etc. so you may need to do some backlight tweaking when switching on HDR.

The APL of an average scene in the game in SDR should match the APL of the same scene in the game in HDR. If it is too bright after switching, drop backlight, just make sure that you are properly set-up for SDR first.

Second thing to watch out for will be the color container. All HDR is sent as BT2020, but some devs never properly mapped the SDR color into the HDR color container, so you may just want to swap the colorspace around to make sure in an average, boring scene the color saturations are the same. If you see an orange turning pink that should signal an incorrect color mapping.

There are bugs out there so be aware! but don't let it bog down the gaming.

Yeah it seems to me its not our TV but up to the devs on how well they implement HDR. Like you on my set FFXV and ratchet and clank looks amazing with HDR on. There is a massive difference for those titles with HDR on and off. But like you GoW4 looks really bad on my screen too, washed out mess.

Th VA is the better panel.

Well, I don't know about that, I think it's just a preference. The 43 inch variant loses a lot of contrast when viewed on an angle, it's not bad but it definitely makes a difference. The 49 inch variant does get brighter but the colors look more washed out to me.

My crib is also small and somewhat dark so I prefer the 43 inch variant overall.

It's also much better to use for PC gaming as well, at least to me, than the 49 inch version.

Right, it sucks from off angle no doubt, but its a small set, used for monitors or small rooms, so off-angle shouldn't be an issue, and like you said, the PQ is better.

yeah that's my biggest complaint for the 43" aside from very low peak brightness. I sit close to the TV like 2-3 feet away and if I move slightly to the left or right ( i am sitting directly infont) the picture deteriorates severely. I recommend the 43 inch if you have a good distance between you and the TV. Atleast 5-6 feet. That way you get a "bigger" good angle.

Glad to know it's not just me who thinks Uncharted and Gears look awful. I did check all the color settings and they are correct.

I don't get how there are so many people saying Gears looks great in HDR though. I could not for the life of me make it look even remotely good.

For a television I would take VA over IPS every time. With swivel and full articulating mounts, there is even less incentive for IPS panels.

Gears of war looks awesome on my set. Surprised at how good the iq is for an Xbox title. Doesn't look washed out at all, neither does uncharted. Its actually sort of surprising given I have the 49.

Maybe try turning the adaptive contrast on?

I run with that on medium for hdr gaming typically, but low for forza horizon 3, and I think it helps with the hdr pop a bit more without crushing blacks.

And I do think fh3 is waaay to dark with hdr if you're driving around at night so it's kind of annoying having to tweak things depending of the time of day in game.

Would you mind posting your settings out for Gears when you get a chance? It's really been stumping me.
