Sony's Dig at Microsoft Thoughts ?

There was no need for Sony to stoop this low. With this and Mark cerny emphasizing "the most powerful console" I really felt Sony is desperate and doing all this to stay relevant.

The Cerny comment is completely fine, it's true and it's his design, if he said the Xbox is a pile of shite, you would have a point.

The pause for laughs was pretty cringe-worthy. But there's nothing wrong with taking shots at your competitors in general. It just has a nasty habit of coming back to bite you in the ass.

They are 100% right. In the end it's good for consumers that MS is throwing 180ºs like they are free, but at the same time the consumer would do well to remind himself what MS was going to force if the PS4 didn't exist.

MS was forced to change because of pre orders, and those who are going to buy a Xbox One shouldn't forget so that if an unpleasant 180º happens midway through the gen, they don't act surprised.

Still rockin'

HOLY SHIT LMAO

Yeah, uh, that didn't happen. MP is not PSN. Still able to do a lot more in front of the paywall than on the other system.

Multiplayers the biggest thing, and it was one clear cut advantage over MS. Netflix and other services not being held hostage is... admirable, but it's the least I'd expect of any company that wasn't Microsoft.

only teens who aren't satisfied until huge explosions and heads blow up in the most detailed expressions ever seen on a console platform..hint hint ND and GG next M rated game '-)

or Gears...

Halo...

etc...

conference was solid for me...B-

Or people who don't care about the CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE DEBUT of indie games you'll be able to get elsewhere.

It was funny at first, now it's just like... okay. Let's face it, them backtracking is worse for them. Microsoft were making Sony look like a clear winner by comparison, now they're looking a lot more homogeneous, especially with Sony choosing to put PSN behind a paywall. I don't doubt they'll still be the better, more consumer friendly company to go with, but I actually think Sony made the dig because they're sort of pissed they backed down.

this sums it up actually

Shrug, I have no problem with it. And its not like what was said was unfair, MS have changed their policies quite a bit since E3.

I actually find it more annoying when companies try to ignore that they have competition entirely.

One thing is clear to me: people here forgives Sony's decision to take away features from the PS3, the two jobs joke, the PSN hack, the poor support for indie devs in the PS3 early days... but won't forgive MS for the Xbone policies.

I don't think that's the case, Sony took a beating for years in the early PS3 years, they paid for their mistakes, and it took them years to turn their image around. They've done a great job these past three years, but you say it like people instantly forgave them, which isn't the case.

People will get over what MS tried to do, but it's not going to happen overnight, or even in a few months. The negative perception of the X1 will probably haunt them for a while, but just like Sony, I think MS will be able to turn things around eventually. They already seem to be on the right track.

It's gonna look ridiculous if the Xbox 1 outsells the PS4, which is pretty likely.

There's almost zero chance of that happening. The only place it will even be close is in the US and even there with a $100 price delta I doubt it. World-wide it's gonna be bedlam. Absolute bedlam.

haha

I guess you haven't been paying attention the last few months. There is a reason Sony hasn't been changing policies like crazy, and including free games with the console for Europe.

Unnecessary.

Nothing wrong with stating that you've been largely consistent regarding policies. I'm sure MS had their share of jabs during the release of the 360.

already done and still no release date for the xbone.

There really wasn't a point to mention a release date given that the console is only available in 13 markets. It was more appropriate for Sony to do it and MS should have dropped it at E3.

Whatever man, GAF is just pro-Sony and will just shit on MS for life now. Don't try and bring up correct history and say that Sony was in the doghouse for years, that shit ain't right!

Lets not forget only 2 days ago from MS

["I think that it's quite clear that you should wait, because the Xbox is the only real eight-generation console. The PlayStation 4 is, and I'm sad to say but this is how it looks to me, only a more powerful PlayStation 3. On the other hand I think the Xbox One is a paradigm shift in the console world: A whole entertainment system."

its just business and I for one miss the insulting days of old from Sony

was a small chuckle, don't think it was a serious dig. sounded like a smarmy comment you'd say to your friend and your other friends would say "Burn!" and then you'd both laugh it off.

It's gonna look ridiculous if the Xbox 1 outsells the PS4, which is pretty likely.

If Microsoft couldn't outsell Sony this gen when they did almost everything right and Sony had one of the worst launches this side of the Wii U, I don't see how they can possibly hope to outsell the PS4.

I would have spent more time showing how disgusting everything MS tried to do to gaming, but it would have been a waste, the audience at gamescon already knows. The best tact now to to just repeat over and over that the ps4 is the most powerful console and costs a good deal less.

True. I think a lot of sony fanboys have still not forgiven Ballmer for that kid he bullied in 8th grade either.

I still find it hard to believe some people are actually going with the whole "PS4 has no games" mentality. I would have thought Sony proved that false with the PS3. I'm glad they're saving the big hitters for later, next year is going to be amazing for PS4 announcements while on the X1 we'll just be hearing about stuff we already know about. Pretty great move by Sony.

haha

But the policies have changed and the differences between the two consoles are now almost negligible. They even have the same games for the most part so if ms just keeps playing their cards right they just might outsell sony. I'm not saying that's what is going to happen, but it's not extremely unlikely

Sony's reaction took years. Microsoft's reaction took one month.

I really think that MS deserved the jab at the E3, but now after the 180, it's unnecessary and childish.

The pause for laughs was pretty cringe-worthy.

I didn't think so. The cringe-worthiness of those pauses for laughs and applause depends entirely on whether or not it's based on a genuine audience reaction. People really were laughing over him when he tried to continue.

Now that 'I just announced a $199 PS3, you're supposed to react', that one I'll give you.

I thought it was cold blooded in the good way.

It pretty much laid out the notion that Microsoft has no idea what gamers want, and have to backtrack and change their machine to fit what gamer's want, while Sony has always been in step with gamers, and have created a console that suits their (gamers) needs, and not their (Sony's) bottom line.

It's PR. But well done PR. It's all about public perception. Just look at how masterfully Microsoft shaped public perception with the Xbox 360, compared to how Sony did with the PS3.

As someone who had to weather the bad storm of the first year of PS3, let me say I feel your pain man. Good luck.

no pain at all.

though i am a bit worn out of the shit on MS threads - which this clearly would be from the instant OP hit submit post.

hence why i'm not treating it as a serious topic with goof ball posts to rile up the real warriors.

Seriously. I'm not going to pretend like Microsoft is somehow innocent, as they have a tendency to talk from their ass, too, but Sony needs to do more talking with their games lineup. For a system that was supposedly behind on everything, the Xbox One launch is looking surprisingly solid.

I'm curious what you and the one you quoted think about PS4's lineup initially and within the year. It's very solid and has more announced titles than what's been announced for Xbone.

I actually want to read what games are worth discrediting when putting all 33 launch/window games when making such a statement.

Sony was more about games and right to the point with their show. Stop the BS? I got a strong vibe of games big and small from this show.

Let's not lose rationality and start calling some of these great games sub-par now. I see a very solid lineup of games which much of the world has yet to experience and many of those indies are only on PS4 when they launch.

I've already gone around the corner and back in 2 separate discussions when some have tried to discredit PS4's games and all they did was talk about games for this and next year which are only coming to PS4 first (console wise).

Before I finish, The Witness, Hotline Miami 2, Rime, ResoGun, Transistor, Rogue Legacy, Helldivers, Return to Rapture, and I will stop there. Those just a few of the games that are either coming to PS4 first or are outright exclusives. I won't list more because I just want to prove a point about PS4 having a great show when it comes to games.
