Sony's Dig at Microsoft Thoughts ?

Not an issue. MS waffling and being forced into so many 180s after their tone-deaf DRM-grab is a fine point to bring up.

Its not just about the launch games. Its about the platform, the services, the practices, and the vision long term.

It was funny at first, now it's just like... okay. Let's face it, them backtracking is worse for them. Microsoft were making Sony look like a clear winner by comparison, now they're looking a lot more homogeneous, especially with Sony choosing to put PSN behind a paywall. I don't doubt they'll still be the better, more consumer friendly company to go with, but I actually think Sony made the dig because they're sort of pissed they backed down.
yeah I'm sure they are upset MS is changing everything, saying "we've been consistent is really all Sony can do at this point.

I'm sure they would have liked MS to launch with that unit though, cuz they likely would've mopped the floor with them the first 6 months. Now, it will likely be much closer who knows...but I thought it was a tasteful jab at best. Nothing more to say really at this point. Just let the games and vision speak for your platform now.

Overall solid conference for me, just no WOW factor. Hopefully TGS has the Last Guardian and Gravity Rush 2...

I chuckled but when they were at the end of such an awful conference they probably should have dialed down the potshots. Luckily for them MS arguably had an even worse showing.

I thought it was great. I'm embarrassed to say I liked the "wives/gfs only watch rubbish" joke too.

Still nowhere near as good as the Kaz Hirai twitter gold though.

It was funny, I didn't really over think it. Certainly not going to get upset at what a company says at their conference about another company.

I laughed when I saw that. What are the 2 o's in the smiley?

Unnecessary today. It was fun at E3 but the fact that Sony feels the need to make digs at their direct competition stinks of desperation - when they have no need to feel desperate. It's like Sega back at the PS2 launch. It just felt forced today and lacked the class I'd expect from Sony.

Sony has a strong offering - so why?

I see it more of SONY basically saying " look, our policies haven't changed from day 1 since we know what you gamers want, whereas our competition had to do a full 180 to please you and get on the same level as us, they tried once and they can try again" It's more food for thought than taking a dig, in a sense.

At E3, I thought it was perfect. This time it felt a liiiiiiitle too cocky/tasteless. The entire world knows M$ fucked up and looks ridiculous right now. There's no need for them to put a spotlight on them again.

Acceptable in political debates but apparently not in videogame presentations...

Videogames = serious business

Politics = not so much

They're walking a fine line between playful trash-talk and arrogance. So far, I feel it's been the former, and it hasn't really bothered me. But if the perception starts leaning towards the latter, well I don't think Sony wants to remind gamers on how they acted at the PS3 launch.

I thought it was ok, but maybe a little more forced than their E3 comments. Those were basically calling out bad policy, and people have good reason to get behind that. It was totally warranted (and effortlessly hilarious). This is saying it's bad that a company changed bad policy, so it's a little silly when you think about it.

"Haha, how stupid is it that our competitor responded to consumer and developer concerns before their product launched? What *jerks!* Am I right guys?"

It was in good fun though.

Unnecessary.

Exactly. They've already won the price war and have the first party studios to be successful long term. They vision was definitely to appeal to the hardcore gamer (which is smart early in the gen obviously). I think stuff like this speaks to such a small percentage of the average consumer that it only serves the people who will quote all of these dumbass executives 8 years on internet forums.

I couldn't help it but notice this comment from that link

"in the end Mario Kart sold more than any Activision game"

I'm not saying this game is better or that even I like it, but come on man, Call of Freaking Duty man. How do you forget about that game and the games publisher. It's printed money like nothing we've ever seen from a single series in the past 6 years.

Totally justified. The shots fired were subtle and constrained. Microsoft has done a good enough job making themselves look bad all on their own.

It's fine, and they weren't wrong. My only problem with it is that they said it in a very "business" or "matter-of-fact" manner. If they were going to take a dig, they should have just took a straight dig.

It's clever to make fun about a company who takes user feedback (yes, low preorders are feedback) into consideration to update their policies. Ok then.

It was fine and I got a chuckle out of it. Both companies are gonna take jabs at one another from time to time, they're in competition and it's to be expected. Just enjoy it.
