Oh, damn I kept thinking it must be a reference to some Youtube video or something.
I really love this show, but I found nothing really funny about this episode. I chalked it up to not understanding references, but if that's not the case, then maybe the episode was just completely unfunny (to me).
Not everything is a reference. If you watch the show with that kind of mindset, you're overthinking it. Just appreciate how completely stupid some of the material they write is, and laugh at it. Enjoy those "WTF moments".
I wonder if the black guy wearing the Twilight T-Shirt was to symbolize some of the out of place fans like "Twilight Moms"? Or even bronies.
I think he was just an out of place character meant to be funny
Actually, that was the other thing that gave me a chuckle from the episode. No wayyyyy!
Does anyone else think that the show has changed dramatically?
In the older episodes the kids are curious children who don't know much about the world. In the more recent seasons they make the kids way smarter than the adults and instead of being uninformed children they are just instantly smarter and more skeptical about things than anyone else. Cartman went from a stupid fat kid to some sort of evil genius.
I feel episodes like Fingerbang (where the boys actually think they can become a millionaire boy band) would not happen anymore since the kids would be too skeptical of the idea.
Also, whatever happened to the Southpark Mayor, Big Gay Al, Kenny's Parents, etc. In fact, Kenny hasn't been a big part of the show for a very long time.
Worst episode in a long time. Really didnt even get a chuckle other than the black emo guy. Cant wait for the new ike episode though, that looks great.
What a horrible horrible episode that was...

Episode #5 Taming Strange
"When Ike hits puberty, he and Kyle start to grow apart. To save their relationship, Kyle takes Ike to see a live performance of Yo Gabba Gabba."

So wait
In 2006, (miss teacher bangs a boy) Ike was in kindergarten. So let's say he was 5. It's now 2013, so he would now be 12. Yeah. That checks out.
BUT NO ONE ELSE HAS AGED
lol. The main gang should be like, in their early twenties by now.

Homer would be a AARP member and collecting social security if characters aged.
Random black guy was amazing. At first I thought it was some weird play on Cochise from The Warriors considering the Emo vs. Goth gang stuff, but I have no idea. T'was just funny.
Eric Cartman is the smartest child character in television history. His social intelligence is just unreal. He speaks 4 languages, starts and manages successful businesses, manipulates people, successfully petitions Congress to change US law...
This is the thing, in the earlier seasons of the show he was just a dumb spoiled kid and later on he is an evil genius that is capable of doing crazy things without even trying that hard. I think the whole show's concept of kids finding things out about the world is gone. The character changes are just insane.

On a somewhat related note, they changed his speech patterns and mannerisms sometime between Season 3 and 4, I think. The pitch of his voice is very different.
(Watch Cartman in Season 1 - 3 episodes and compare it with the later seasons, it's very jarring, and also coincided with his sudden rise in I.Q. and E.Q.)
Really odd episode
It was funny in places, but I thought South Park was supposed to topical?
I haven't heard people talk about emos and goths since 2009.

I thought the goth episode was fun until we discovered that the plants weren't really emo plants![]()
The whole reality show twist at the end was kind of lame
Is it really that hard to believe that ike is going through puberty at 5?

That clip is already funnier than the whole goth episode.
Sorry, I meant with an adult voice. He's been talking
