Well, that was kind of insane. Not sure what to think about that yet.

I feel like it was a lot better than the previous Nobumoto episodes, but it still felt a bit random at times.

The best of the Nobumoto episodes so far, with some fun stylized corner-cutting in the first half, and great, energetic, goofy dancing in the second. But it had a lot of the same flaws as those other episodes, with its overly-complex plot and muddled digressions. The whole part with the record from the record shop was both boring and unnecessary.

Great ending, though.

Episode 22

This was kinda crazy, and not what I expected at all, but mostly in a good way. Out of all of Keiko Nobumoto's episodes in the series (ep8, 15, 19, 22) this is clearly the one with the best direction, so it did a lot of justice to her script, but personally I would say my favorite story out of the four would still be the dog one in ep8. I really like how this episode was put together though. Lots of very smart decisions and it flowed really well. Thematically the episode is also very strong, making great use of the concept of how dance and music trends can move on, and how retroism continues to exist in some places even when everyone else has forgotten.

Setting up the entire Dancingians event as something which used to be a huge hit but now only exists as an emotional attachment passed down by those who got to experience it before, and then executing that by using a John Travolta lookalike alien as a sort of foil for expectations was a masterstroke. I loved the random alien designs too. I'm glad they took advantage of the variety to show off different dance moves just for the fun of it. It's pretty cute how one of those aliens is a clear reference to Kameda's Anime Mirai short too. I don't want to ever see Old Dandy again though. That was just too messed up. Baby Dandy is fine though. :D

My favorite still from the episode:

Space Dandy 22

It was an entertaining episode, and I guess I'd rate it as a good episode. I guess my biggest disappointment is that there wasn't more dancing animation, I feel like we got more in the Viva All episode. I wanted to see a whole competition between Dandy and people. The ending song was amazing though.

edit: looks like next episode we have yet another episode of Dandy and the glasses lady in a romantic episode. Guess they were actually paired up for the show, even if they don't officially end up together. She is the most recurring female outside of Honey, and it's already obvious Honey only sees Dandy as a customer.

I agree, there just wasn't as much dancing as I thought there would be.

We're all fools so let's dance, baby (同じバカなら踊らにゃ損じゃんよ) -> Awa Odori song lyrics (同じ阿呆なら踊らな損)

So a week ago, Dandy in limbo realizing that he had died and that was the place he'd be stuck unless he wanted to go back. As in going back to another universe where he was still alive and not dead from banging his head on the console.

Last night, I liked the cross-hatching style. Mixing it up with the hand drawn look is always welcome. It was another trip of an episode and the music is always phenomenal. Are we gonna get a double CD or more when this is done?

Wow this really blows my mind

As someone who just recently caught up, there's one thing i don't get. Is each and every episode canon? Even the ones where they die?

Well if you caught up then you know two things:

1. There are multiple realities, each with its own Dandy
2. Episode 21 deals with multiple realities and death as well, with the little girl planet saying she would send Dandy to a reality where he was still alive
3. Who cares baby

The first two points kind of try to give an explanation as to why we have episodes they die, but at the end of the day each scriptwriter and director decides on what they want to do, even if it's to kill dandy baby.

This is the correct answer. Absolutely divine. If you finish an episode disappointed, you only have yourself to blame.

Well the episode could also be kind of shit. Wasn't duckroll going to do a thread where we compare and rate Dandy episodes as a community? Or was what we did in the anime thread it?

Can't believe the last episode is tomorrow. It's been a wild ride and I've loved every minute of it.

Before I get too teary-eyed, there's no chance of a season 3 right? Dunno if any of the voice actors have talked about what they're working on or whatnot.

Tomorrow's isn't the last, unless everything that says it's a 26 episode anime is wrong.

Oh great! I've been checking the wiki page and it only has up to episode 23 listed so I assumed the worse. Would still like a third season. 26 episodes isn't enough Dandy!
There was murmurings of a possible movie. Obviously nothing set in stone, but I would be content with two seasons and a film!

Credits for the last three episodes. So excited for another Toh Enjoh episode.

Wow, Takayama is really storyboarding an episode. That's something. He hasn't storyboarded or directed anything since Patlabor WXIII over a decade ago. He mostly does writing so I guess everyone was expecting him to write an episode instead. Might be a really interesting episode. Especially since he's been on the creator's list since last year, so the episode had to have been in the works for a while now. Interesting to see Takahashi directing an episode too, since he mostly does storyboarding when he's not directing the series itself, like in ep11. Although, I wonder if Mihara is animating most of the episode himself like he did with ep6. It's a bit odd that he's not directing or storyboarding the episode. Not that I'm complaining, since Takahashi's Blue Exorcist movie rocked. :)

I was talking to liborek3 earlier, and he also mentioned that apparently the Toh Enjoe episode is super important and defines the rest of the series. Darkkyo vindicated??? :D

Well, the nice thing about this show is that even when it "ends" it is natural to assume that the story continues in the context of the established multiverse. That being said, I can never get enough and would always welcome more.

He was Dandy before being a TV star and he will be just as Dandy afterwards! As opposed to you know, every other show with a rigidly defined plot arc for each episode, season and the entire run.

I am frequently reminded of Buddhism and LSD when I watch Space Dandy. I honestly couldn't ask for anything more. Wonderful. I feel that a lot of viewers gloss over a lot of the broader philosophical statements in a rush to square everything and "make sense" of it.

The doctrine of Buddhism is a finger pointing at the moon - do not mistake the finger for the moon

Okay, I just caught up with the last two episodes.

Two totally different tones, two totally different styles, could have been from two totally different shows. Both totally and absolutely brilliant.
